I'm so upset. I lost my job Thursday :confused3 and now my DH says we have to cancel our May/June Fort trip. I feel terrible. Even if I found another job, we have already missed some valuable saving time for the trip, and I wouldn't make NEAR as much money as I was. This would have been our 3rd year in a row going to the Fort. I asked if we could just go down and stay there and not do any parks... Or maybe just a couple... And he said the boys would be extremely mad if we got down there and couldn't do everything.

We even sold our old Apache and got a new pop-up just for this trip!!
I think I'm going to take it worse than the kids.

I'm still hoping for a Mommy and Daddy F&W trip... But that would cheat the kids...

Sorry so negative... I just needed somewhere to vent!

I'm SOOO going to miss the Fort on our regular weekend! :sad1:

You hang in there.... We all will be praying that something great will happen for you in terms of a better job as well as the chance to keep your Fort plans.

Don't get discouraged!!

I am sorry to hear about your job. And I understand the feelings maybe not going to the Fort.
The Mommy & Daddy trip.:thumbsup2, hey, I'm all for that, I still insist that Disney is a waste on children, Disney is for adults,,children are very resilant critters, they'll bounce back quick from not going,,,now mommy and daddy I'm not too sure about, I'd say that trip should happen if possible. :rotfl2:

(just kidd'n people, yes the curtain climbers should go too)(NOT !!)
I'm sorry, yes they should.(NO WAY !)
Just kidding !(Yeah, RIGHT !)

Seriouly, I am sorry about your job. Year before last, our work stopped, we had ressies for the following season, had to cancel. BUT, before the appointed season came a few things turned around for us and we were able to make the ressies again,:thumbsup2
Keep the faith girl,:wizard:,magic happens.

So sorry to hear about your job loss. That is all too common these days.

If you are seriously considering a trip without doing parks, let me just say that some of our best Fort trips have been those where we didn't do ANY parks. If you can swing a trip to the Fort in that new popup, I think you would have a great time doing things that don't cost money...like looping on your bikes, fishing, resort hopping to check out the different hotels, walking around DTD, swimming in that nice Fort pool with the slide and hot tub, and watching fireworks from the beach. Plus, you have your kitchen with you so you don't even need to eat out much at all.

I hope you find another job quickly and this all is just a bad memory soon. :goodvibes

My wife and I had this happen to us last year, she (the bread winner) was let go from a company she worked for 15 years. It was a very tuff decision, but we came out of it better because while the rest of the family (12 others) were down there she got a call for an interview and got a great job working for the CFO of the new Casino. See it is very tuff for us I was raised on Disney and last year would have been my 35th year of going to the Fort,so instead this year is my 35th. SOOOOOOOO chin up you might have to skip this year but with some determination next year could be even better.
I will say a prayer for you and your family and stay positive.
VENT ALL YOU WANT
ITCH

sorry for your job loss. we had two people loose their jobs (my dh was one) this past year. we figured out how to get to the fort. we rode and camped with the other (which was my sis). it worked out great and i hope you can find a solution so you can still go.

Despite it all, Cheryl still managed to mix a mean Chocolatini.

In 2004 I had to cancel my FW trip because Uncle George deployed me. That was tough. As far as layoffs, I've had a couple and I'll say this - I was better off after every one of them. It forced me to make a move I wouldn't have otherwise. It's too easy for me to stay in one place and stay in my comfort zone, rather than take a chance. So despite having to give up this trip to the Fort, look at it as an opportunity to grow. I truly believe everything happens for a reason.

Sorry to hear about your job. I would be disapointed if I had to cancel a trip to the fort.
At least you have disboards

Thanks everyone! :cloud9:
It's been tough. My DH and I are both in the restaurant business. I'm a server and he is a bartender. We met at the same place 7 years ago, but now work at different places.
This was our one vacation every year where we could just get away for a while. It's hard on us just to get away because where he works there are only 2 other bartenders, and at my place only 4 other waitresses. He works at a chain restaurant and does really well... But I worked at a smaller bar/restaurant and did REALLY well. It's the best money there is to make in our small little town.
Sadly enough I've only worked in the restaurant business since I was 17 and have no experience in anything else so it's hard to find something else. And boy if I can't own my own place at this point, I would LOVE to be OUT of the restaurant business.
Most people have savings and stuff to fall back on, but we lived day to day. Each week we knew what was coming up that we had to pay and kept up with our earnings everyday on a calendar.
We made just enough to pay everything, keep our gas tanks full and our bellies full, as well. Then my money that I made on Saturdays and my paychecks was our Disney money. Now we will have to use it for the bills in the upcoming weeks. I hate it!!!
I haven't told the boys yet... DH even told me to call today and cancel the reservations... I'm really holding out for a miracle here!
 Sorry, again...

I am sorry to hear about your job :( There might be a way for your family to get in the parks for... free! Disney's "Give a Day Get a Day". The kids can volunteer too as long as they are 6 and up. My volunteer day only required ONE hour of paperwork, and I am will be receiving a ticket for any disney park. Look it up. Good luck!

Whitney,
Krispy Kreme is looking for Assistant General Managers (AGM), they will train you. And previous restaurant experience is a plus.

OOPs, this is Denise.

I bet if you sat your kids down and said "Hey...we can go camping at Fort Wilderness (no parks), OR we can sit home for summer vacation.....I bet they'd vote for a NO PARKS camping trip ANYDAY over NUTTIN!!!!! And I bet they would have more fun than they realize.

Hate to hear about the job loss.....but I agree with some of the above posters....its a wide open door that may hold a much brighter future.....get out there and shine girl!!!

Thanks everyone for the kind words! I need friends like you guys in my everyday life!!

I wouldn't mind at all going down and just camping. There's SO much we would still be able to do.

I might try that approach.

I applied for a couple of jobs today. I just hate that they look at my resume and only see 2 waitressing jobs over 7 years and are like is that all you've done?

IMHO if you've waited tables and dealt with the public for that long (and I'm DANG good if I might toot my horn a little :) then you can do anything! :cheer2:

Thanks everyone!!! I certainly feel the love in this group!

So sorry to hear about your job loss. I agree with other posters on this thread that many times these things turn out for the better. I know, from experience, that things sometimes happen for a reason but it may take a little while to figure it out. Don't give up..keep your chin up and I am sure "your" job is out there waiting for you.

As for the vacation I would agree that going to the Fort without going to the parks can be a great vacation in itself. Or, as Pink18 said, participate in the Give a Day promotion and you can at least get in one park for one day. Any day at the Fort is better than a staycation at home:thumbsup2:
