may have to cancel trip :(

More prayers from another Seattle Mom. I'm very sorry for your news and know that your parents must feel very lucky to have you.

again, thank you everyone for all your thoughts and prayers. it means a lot to me that this board just doesn't provide information about all things DL, but that everyone here also supports members in any way shape or form during both good times and bad.

your support is very much appreciated!

i'll keep you all posted. my hope is that my dad will be here in seattle by the end of this month and he can start treatment asap.

I'm so sorry to hear about your father! DL will always be there. You can always take him with you after his recovery.
My thoughts and prayers go to your family!!

My prayers are with you and your family, too! :grouphug: This time with him will be good for your kids, too. DL isn't going anywhere; besides, maybe the construction will be under control when you are able to go later! Always look at the silver lining and never forget the power of laughter when the clouds look gray!!!

My goodness. You'll be in my thoughts. I feel for you, as I just buried my mother (and my children's last surviving grandparent) a few weeks ago.

It's never easy, but I can vouch at what a great medical community you have up there. I used to travel for work with a nuclear medicine camera manufacturer and spent a lot of time in your area. You'll be taking him to nuclear med a lot, now, for bone scans and PET scans, so I'll think about you.

You know to enjoy the time you have together - I don't have to tell you that, but I will remind you to stop and take time for yourself and breathe. Get an occasional spa break, even. Sounds silly, but if you and your sister don't keep yourself physically rested and well, you won't be able to support your parents emotionally after a while. Make sure you push the other to take breaks - and definitely make sure your sister returns the favor for taking her WDW break!

 I'm also in Hawaii and I just wanted to send out hugs and prayers for you and your family. I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. I'll be thinking of you!

thank you again, everyone, for our thoughts and prayers.

i just wanted to provide you all with an update...
my dad, mom, DD1, and i all arrived in seattle (from honolulu) tuesday morning, 4/21. that afternoon, we rushed my dad to the ER. he was very dehydrated and his bladder infection got worse...which caused a chain of events...very low blood pressure and sepsis. he was in the hospital until 4/28. he's now at home (well, at my sister's house here in washington)...and he has his 1st appt with the seattle cancer care alliance next thursday 5/7. i'm hoping he can start his cancer treatment sometime in the next 2-3 weeks.

Well that was an eventful first day. We're praying he is healthy and can start treatment soon. Hang in there! :grouphug:

yes, it was. my dad refused to drink a lot of water on monday, 4/20, and only had a few small meals because he didn't want to be constantly going to the bathroom in the airplane (we were on the red-eye flight that night). i guess it caught up with him tuesday early afternoon. when we got to my sister's house tuesday morning, he had breakfast and went to lay down to rest. got up later and drank some ensure...then he had 2 "episodes" of severe chills (according to the docs, the chills were a result of this bladder infection). it was during the second episode of chills that my sister called me and asked if we should call 911 or rush him to the ER. since we weren't sure what hospital they'd bring my dad to if we called 911, we decided to bring him to the ER of our hospital of choice. it was a scary ride to the ER since my dad was pretty out of it...not responding to questions - he just had a blank look on his face and he kept moving around in his seat as if to get comfortable. the doctors and nurses said that was a result of his very low blood pressure. they loaded him up on IV fluids. i think he weighed a mere 115lbs when he was admitted to the ER (he normally weighs about 160lbs...he's been losing weight since november 2008)...and they got him up to about 142lbs by the time he was discharged. he was VERY dehydrated. now we're all on case to drink at least 8 glasses of water everday!
