May have to cancel trip that starts tomorrow!

Delta allowed me to reschedule a flight once due to an emergency appendectomy the day before a scheduled flight, but they actually called my surgeon's office to verify.

Did you give the Doctors office permission to release that info? Wow, I can't imagine having that job...seeking out peoples surgeries and deaths etc. :sad2:

Every plane ticket (or train ticket, for that matter) i've ever bought presented an option to add insurance to the purchased ticket at checkout at a price far less than the reschedule fee.

Actually, I just recently learned that some low cost airlines where I live don’t have that option. I tried to book it on a work flight and nope, not something they offer.

So glad to hear your daughter is feeling a bit better already! Not trying to damper your situation, but strep is very contagious - if any of the rest of you begin to feel ill, please don't wait to find a doctor while on vacation. Good luck!

I wish the airlines would allow free changes for documented illness. There are too many folks that can’t afford to pay the rescheduling penalty and get on the plane sick, which then spreads their germs to other people.
they do. Passengers just have to purchase the fares that allow free changes.

Instead, we mostly all always opt for the lowest, most restrictive fares.

Passengers need to do their homework and make sure travel terms meet their needs before booking.
  1. Almost all airlines offer fully refundable fares.
  2. Southwest allows full credit towards a future flight, with some time restrictions. No reason neccessary
  3. Even Frontier will give full credit. You have to document a covered reason, pay the fare difference and fly within a specified time interval.
  4. Some credit cards include limited travel insurance benefits which will refund non refundable charges for covered reasons.
  5. Airlines generally will sell you travel insurance.
  6. Third party travel insurance is available.
Changing vacation plans is an issue with job and school vacation policies. Tours, FPs and restaurant reservations have been made. Sick people will still fly.

Sorry. I don't agree with your post.
