Looks like we may have to cancel our * at **from ** :(

I have never been in this situation in all the years being a DVC member. I read on the website about the Holidng account but have a feeling it is not telling me all.

My use year is June. I also have another ressie for April coming up. Is there a way I can use my holding points for the April ressie and then bank the April ressie???

Any clarification will be so helpful!!!

Reservations at DVC cancelled within 30 days of arrival will result in the points being returned to the account as Holding Points. This places a restriction on how they may be used - only for reservations made within 60 days of arrival. Holding Points may not be banked and will expire at the end of the current Use Year if not used.

If you have an existing reservation for next April, the Holding Points could not be used until February and then only if there is still availability since it would involve a cancellation and rebooking. They are not supposed to be reallocated for a reservation made using the 11 month priority, unless there is still availability and no wait list 60 days prior.

It sure can't hurt to ask, but don't be disappointed if you are not allowed to switch the Holding Points and be allowed to bank the other points. If there is still availability for the April reservation, then you can certainly remake the reservation using the Holding Points and then could bank the points freed up.

Good luck!

I think you are out of luck with that scenario.

For an April reservation, the earliest you could book with holding points is sometime in February (depending on the day).
But January 31 is the last day for banking June UY points, so techically you would have to cancel the existing reservation in January, bank those points, then hope that in February you could book a new reservation for April using the holding points.

Thanks Doc and Jon for the quick response!!

Jon.....I had a feeling that would be the case. since our April planned vacatoin is during New England school vacation, in all probabllity I would not be able to rebook (and we have about 5 families going, my kids would be soooo disappointed).

Is there something about using holding points at the end of your use year? For some strange reason I am recalling something about not be able to use holding points the last 60 day so your contract year (so that would really not be good for an April ressie!!).

Had I bought that insurance (which I always decline!!!) would that have made a difference in my holdign status? (soemthing I shoudl think about now that we have aging parents and are finding ourselves in this situation)

Thanks again for the response...

Holding Points may be used to reserve and stay during the last 4 months of your Use Year at DVC Resorts, but not at the non-DVC options (Disney Collection, Concierge Collection, Adventurer Collection). With June Use Year you could make a Disney Collection reservation to stay in February or March as long as the reservation was made before February for those stays.

I missed that you had a June Use Year and am glad John caught that since it would affect your banking window for any reservation changes for an April reservation as he explained.

The insurance would have paid you for the "lost" points for any covered reasons (I think it's around $5 per point), but you would not have them as Holding Points since you would have received the cash in lieu of the points going back into your account.

Would you consider trying to rent the reservation instead of cancelling it? That way you wouldn't have to worry about holding points at all... Good luck with whatever you decide! :goodvibes

That is an option!!!

Just a reminder that we have our DVC Rent/Trade Board; you may want to read the sticky posts there if you are considering renting.

Details in the OP's first post have been removed since they are not allowed on the DVC Boards when renting is a possibility. Thanks all and good luck OP! :)

Sorry CarolAnnC........I have been off the boards for a while and I guess I need to catch up on the new rules. Unable to use the Rent/Trade board since I have not been posting for a bit (even though I have been around for a while)...........
