May Attendance

Is it just me or does it seem like there is going to be huge attendance at the World in the month of May? I know these boards are small in comparison to the rest of the world but it does seem like alot of people have vacations planned for next month. I'm wondering, will this prompt Disney to change hours, add Spectro, fireworks or open both water parks? I can take the hours being shortened a little but when they start cutting the entertainment shouldn't they cut the pass price as well? Just venting-sorry.

I'm there the 4th to 13th and I'm really hoping that they might sneak in Spectro-Magic. However, for that to happen they'd proably have to have a busier than expected month of April - not much chance of that.

I'm looking at the bright side - the Studios is open until 9PM every night!

(As for opening both Water Parks - I'm not too worried about that - both parks are still open 3 days a week so - barring bad weather - I'll choose one of those days to go)

Actually, I was suspecting it will be not overly crowded, based on availibility of the resorts. The Disney website with the Summer Savers code lists plenty of availability for May, which is not far away! I am going around May 10-17, and almost everything is available, even All-Star Sports and Music. Also AKL has tons of availability, so does Coronado. Usually it's hard to find availability so close to the dates, and at a decent discount.

Unfortunately, if things look not busy, then Spectro will be more unlikely. Oh well!

There really is no telling. Attendance isn't what it used to be and now Disney is lowering their attendance expectations...due to SARS. I'll be there May 5-10 and I honestly don't know what to expect.

I'm disappointed that I won't get Spectromagic while I'm there and that Fireworks (at MK) are only on Saturday.

But on the bright side - smaller crowds = shorter lines

....is alot of folks who post to the boards know that MAY is one of the better times to go...personally, our family L O V E S this month, and plans our trips for then ONLY!!

What I really want to believe(and I honestly do) is because of that only...it would seem that MAY would be more crowded....but how many posts has anyone seen on going mid JULY???(I would NEVER go in the Summer..too crowded,too hot....not worth the extra money in my book)

Summing it all up, I think what we see on the boards are educated consumers, and those that are learning to be.

So Trish, dont worry....MAY will be a blast, the crowds will be lighter than expected...and maybe just maybe, their will be a little extra pixie dust in the air....even if we dont get Spectro, or Enites(which I wanted sooooooooooo bad..even more than Spectro!!!!)...but....remember, your going, and thats the main thing...have a great vacation...and COME ON MAY!!!!

I'm hoping that if the park attendance is up during the day, they will add in spectro... you never know! with or without it will be a blast!!!

It also depends on what time in May...the first half always had lower attendance. It is after Easter & Spring Break, kids are back in school and it is before Memorial Day weekend. It has always been a favorite time for us to go to WDW duirng this time because of those reasons........also it is not quite as hot as it gets in June, July & August! A great time to enjoy, due to lower attendance during first half of May you can see and do what you want in less time. It still gets crowded during the weekends due to residents, but if you plan your vacation and go during the week it can be great!

We wemt to WDW in May of 2000 around the same time we are going this year....May 11-17 and there was extremely low attendance. We did not have to wait in line for anything really. I think the longest wait we had was under 10 minutes and that was only for one ride. May is a great month to go!! YAY!!!

Yay!! Are you as excited as we are!!! We can not wait!! We are actually leaving on the 10th to visit our grandparents a day before we go to disney. We have a white board that we keep up with the days on. We drew the outline of mickey's head and every day we mark it down another day. Today it says 26!! YAY!! Well have fun!!! SEE YA!! Deah

Can't wait....we are going to Atlantis in the Bahamas for 4 days before WDW and we are looking forward to WDW more than Atlantis! Yeah

We keep a counter in out kitchen too, my husband keeps the "tally" even before making coffee and then proceeds to do the "we going away soon" dance!

Atlantis is OK...we got a free trip from them because our trip last year was terrible. They gave us a full refund $$$ AND a free trip with VIP treatment! That's how bad our stay was.........so we will give it one more try - on them.

We're making our first trip with the kids (DDs 2 and 4) from May 4-9. We are going to surprise them (at least the oldest DD) because I have some business in Ocala May 2-4. She knows we are gong to Florida and asked if we could go to WDW but we told her we did not have time. So we are just bursting at the seams wanting to tell her. Can't wait to see the look on her face when we arrive at WDW.

As for crowds, I'm hoping they are light-moderate. I figure they should be since it is 2 weeks after Easter and school has resumed. We will enjoy 4 full days and spend most of our time in MK (since we have little ones). This will give us time to see everything while taking our time (plus it will be during the week rather than a weekend). Hope everyone has a great time in May.

gonga-- omg, we had an absolute nightmarish experience at Atlantis as well, back in 2000. I'm sorry to hear that you also had a bad experience, but atleast they are compensating you. We had no such luck... and this was after our 1yo dd was injured due to their neglect and further traumatized by their cruelty! They never so much as apologized, we only got a form from their lawyer asking us to detail the incident. It is too bad because the resort is so beautiful and has so much potential, but the treatment there is abominable. We were just so thoroughly disgusted with them. That was when we switched over to WDW. The food was much better and the employees (er, CMs) really care.

invalid_char......I am not surprised! I am now a TA, but this happened before I became one. As soon as I got home I called my TA, wrote letters, and documented everything! At first they gave me some lame offer of a 2 day trip. in my next letter I told them to stick it where the sun does not shine and I will proceed to tell all my friends just how terribly we were treated. I also gave full details and copies of all our receipts and documented EVERYTHING, again! After that letter, 3 weeks later, a full refund was wired into my account and we were given an upgraded 5 day trip. I never take no for an answer! If it was not free, we would not be returning.

Hi,My sister and I are in our 40's and making our first trip to Disney World.We'll be at the Caribbean Beach Resort April 29th till May 2nd. We figured it would be a less busy time to go since
all the school vacations/spring breaks are all over by then.
Were sure it'll be a hoot......
