I just boooked 2 night there for our anniversary. Any ideas on what we should see and do? I know about the Biltmore.

We'll be there Monday the 8th, leaving on the 10th. We may stay most of Wednesday the 10th as we only have to drive back to Charlotte.

I chose here becasue I know my wife likes artsy stuff and boutique restaurants. Any and all sugguestions are appreciated.

EDIT: Plans have changed. We cancelled Grove Park and are now staying at

And we have the Romance Package booked.... well, I do. The whole 3 days is a surprise for my wife.... we'll be married 7 years on May 15th. So it is sort of an anniversay getaway.

There is tons there for her to see then. You will want to check out the Grove Arcade in downtown Asheville. The Grove Park should be able to give you directions.

Are you planning on scheduling her any treatments at the spa?

If you are going to see the Biltmore House plan on also spending some time in the Historic Biltmore Village area. You can't miss it going to the House.

Check out the Mountain Express for some other things to do and schedules.

Have fun!

That Grove Arcade looks right up our alley!

I would check out the Inn at Biltmore in lieu of the Grove Park Inn. It was absolutely incredible the one night we got to spend in it. Also free transportation to the house and a short drive from Tunnel Road in Asheville where there is every restaurant know to man available.

Eh, it was all about price.... We got a much better deal at Grove Park Inn. We will still visit the Biltmore, though.

Either way, I'm sure it will be a nice way to spend 2 nights away from the kids.

Yep I know about the price, I lucked into a $149.00 a night deal. Be sure to hit the winery tour on your way out of the estate.

Look into Hendersonville, it's pretty close to where you'll be. It has a lot of little shops and wonderful restaurants. http://www.historichendersonville.org/

There are many beautiful scenic roads to drive on, our favorite is the drive up to Pisgah. They have a restaurant up there with an unbelievable view.

ActuallY I just now cancelled Grove Park and booked here:

Basically the same price... has a romance package, and you get a whole cabin instead of just a room. And it connects to the Biltmore property. Seems GREAT! And the lady I just booked with was VERY nice.

Do you have a name for the restaurant? Thanks.

I don't remember it, but it's the only one up there. I'll do some searching to see if I can find it.

The restaurant is the Pisgah Inn, it's on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's quite a drive up the mountains, but the scenery is beautiful so its worth it.

No, I don't know the exact mileage. We stopped at the overlooks every so often, I believe the drive took at least 45 minutes going up.
If you're in a rush, skip it, but it is a wonderful way to spend the afternoon, especially if you'll be child free.

The speed limit on the Parkway is only 45 MPH so it takes a while to get anywhere on it. You may want to call the Pisgah Inn ahead of time to make sure of the route to take since part of the Parkway is still closed because of damage to the road.

Also you may want to check out Black Mountain. There are tons of wonderful little shops there. If you & your wife enjoy wine make sure you check out the Merry Wine Market. The owners are absolutely wonderful.

Do you like German food? If so, you may want to eat at The Black Forest.

just spent last weekend in Asheville and we ate at Tupelo Honey Cafe-very good. It's a small cool little joint.

The Pisgah Inn is 20 miles west from Route 25 on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Not wine lovers. We like German food, though.

How about great BBQ? :teeth:

Definitely go to Black Forest. That's where my rehearsal dinner was. I LOVE it. It's on Hendersonville Road, which is a road right in front of Biltmore Estate (well, it might still be called Biltmore Avenue there, but it's the same road). For BBQ, you have 2 options. There's the BBQ Inn on Patton Avenue (not the downtown part-not too far though) and there's Little Pigs. LP is closer to Biltmore. I love them both equally, but a lot of people have love/hate for one or the other.

Grove Arcade is fabulous...I'll try to check if there are any good events that weekend tomorrow when I'm at work.
