With my DH's blessing, I am thinking of taking a solo trip from May 8-12. I know it won't be empty, but will it be wall to wall people? I'm not a big thrill ride person and am actually more interested in the shows, parades and "quieter" rides (ie: the ones for chickens). Should I do it?

Absolutely. Do not walk, RUN! A solo trip is so enriching. You get to do what you want when you want. I've done several solo trips. I'm am very happily married as well. I haven't had a chance to do something on my own for about four years. Next weekend, the husband is in a racquetball tournament so I decided to do my own thing. I'm going to Disney World. Nothing planned except maybe to ride Expedition:Everest again (if it's open and manageable), walk around Animal Kingdom and take pictures, meet a friend at Epcot and then see Illuminations.

Think of it this way. You will come back a much better person and your husband will really appreciate that!

Go for it!! My solo trip was one of my best. The parks should not be very crowded and the weather great!! You will have a GREAT time!

Here's another solo Dis'er -- I will be taking a solo trip to WDW May 7-13. Whee! While it's nice going with someone, I also love going solo!

We were actually just there February 5-10, but DH isn't a big fan and we were with DS who is five and has autism, there was very little he would sit through - like the shows and parades (maybe that's just every five year old :)) and DH wasn't too thrilled about such things anyway. I've never seen Spectromagic live, nor Legend of the Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, etc, etc. I didn't want to be separated from my family during a family trip, although I did manage to see the Jammin' Jungle Parade while my DH and DS went back to the hotel and sneak in a few rides neither of them would go on like Spaceship Earth and Great Movie Ride. I'm going back to school this summer to become a special education teacher while still working full time. Who knows when I'll have the time or money again. DH tells me to go, enjoy myself, have some time to myself (something I haven't had since DS was born) and the money we would spend would be less in the long run than therapy and he knows Disney for me is heaven. I still feel guilty though and am glad for some validation it's not a bad idea. Thanks! I guess I'm going to WDW again!!! :cool1:

I am going on my first solo trip May 7-16 (Friends will be with me first couple of days). I call this my solo birthday celebration. I can't wait. Maybe we can meet up for a meal or two? I just got my alien green mickey ears at the home depot tonight! :) I say go for it and have fun!!

I say go for it! DO pass go - DO collect $100 :rotfl:

Just a side note - we have an Illuminations cruise on 9 May that still has one space available - so if that sound interesting to you, send me a PM!

I just got back from my solo Feb 4-11th trip and all I can say is if you have never done Disney solo DO IT... you get a whole new appreciation for the parks when you can do what you want, see what you want, eat what you want.. its heaven!!! :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:
pixiedust: Best trip I've ever taken!!

And don't forget to stop by the Adults and Solos board. Lots of us have been solo, often many times (it seems to become even more enjoyable for me every trip, if that's possible!) You can get some good tips from people there.

Well, I did it! I booked my trip for May 8-12, staying at the POP Century. Can't wait! Thanks to everyone for the encouragement

:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:
Yay, you're going!!!! I've done solo a few times and it's the greatest!!! You get into your inner child and do WHATEVER YOU WANT!!!! It's so empowering. Plus you really get to slow down and smell the roses. AND WHEN YOU'RE GOING EPCOT HAS GREAT ROSES AND OTHER BEAUTIFUL GARDENS - IT'S THE FLOWER AND GARDEN SHOW!!!!

The adult and solo board helped me a few years ago get over the jitters and gave alot of good solo tips.

Have a blast and come back and let us know what a fantastic time you had!!! :cloud9: Ely

You'll have a great time! :thumbsup2 I love to do WDW solo. You also picked a great time to go. Flower & Garden Festival in Epcot, so there will be lots of things to see & do there. You can spent couple days just there going to seminars and walking around to see all the topiaries. :flower1: :rose: :daisy: :flower2: :flower:

I am so happy for you! I made a solo trip in April 2004 for the Epcot Garden and Flower Show. It was wonderful and my family, DSs and DH survived just fine.

It was one of the best things I have ever done!

Enjoy! :goodvibes

Lucky you!!! I am going to be there the same dates...well, actually I will arrive on May 7th, but until the 12th too.

I was going solo for this trip, but last minute it turned out my niece was able to join me, but it will be just her and I (she's 10) -- I am thrilled she can come, but was looking forward to the solo trip too. I went last year at the same time and it was great! The weather was good (hot but not humid) and the crowds were very manageable. Longest we waited for anything was 20 minutes for Kali River Rapids in AK. If you aren't into thrill rides, you shouldn't have any problems at all. We walked right into most shows, quieter rides and got good seats for the parades.

Also you will LOVE the Flower and Garden Festival at Epcot. It is just beautiful and one of the reasons I am going back for the same dates again this year.
