May 6, 2006 - 7 nite Western - Anyone Crusing?

Chris,
Thanks for sharing that recipe...I am absolutely going to try it! I will be enjoying the real souffle' on Thursday at Palo's during our cruise...maybe I'll skip dinner and just have two!

Has anyone noticed the programing on Dish Network these last few days??

"Titanic" - HBO Sunday :boat:
"A Night to Remember" - Encore Saturday :charac2:
"Blackbeard - Terror of the Caribbean" TLC Wednesday pirate:
"The Posidon Adventure" TNC Saturday
"The Bermuda Triangle" - THC Tuesday :darth:
"Pirates of the Caribbean" - Disney Monday :donald:

Is soneone trying to tell us something?????? :confused3

I'm glad I'm NOT superstitious - knock on wood! :worship:

(If we scare enough folks off could we all get upgrades to CATs 2 & 3?) :woohoo:

Gotta run - "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" is on TNT!! :furious:

Have a great weekend all and God bless!

Chris :cat:

Chris (jcfowler): Can I just say - you crack me up! I am sitting here laughing reading your last few posts! :lmao:

I am seriously going to make that souffle' this weekend. Now if only I had the recipe for the vanilla sauce they pour over it I'd be in heaven!

have a terrific weekend everyone!
Heather

Palo Vanilla Sauce for Souffle' :wizard:

1. Bring 1 1/4 cups heavy cream and 1/4 vanilla bean (split lengthwise) to a low boil in saucepan over medium heat.
2. Combine 3 tablespoons sugar and 2 small egg yokes.
3. Add 2 spoonfuls of boiling cream to egg mixture and stir well, then pour back into the remaining cream and continue to cook over low hear, stirring constantly for 3-4 minutes.

How's that???? :thumbsup2

DW loves the Vanilla Sauce, but I'm a chocoholic! (I've destroyed 5 chocolate Easter bunnies ALREADY!! I'm not kidding!!) party:

If I were cooking this my DW would know it was ready when the smoke alarm went off. Just a bit beyond my culinary skills. I can do the boiling water bit, but after that----well??????? :sad2:

Side note: Our thoughts and prayers to the two cruises with tragic events this last week. Makes me a little more cautious in selecting excursion companies. Hope no one here smokes. I told a guy once smoking wouldn't send him to Hell, but it'd make him smell like he'd been there! We get enough "smoke" around our house when I get to play in the kitchen! pixiedust:

Later! :hourglass

Chris :p

Chris: Perfect!! And what do ya know...I have all the ingredients right here ready for it! Creme Brulee calls for the same ingredients as this sauce, and I always have the ingredients on hand for some yummy creme brulee!

I'm a chocolate person too, but I also love vanilla! Thanks so much. Can't wait to dig in. :thumbsup2

Am I the only one not getting shots? There seems to be tons of people on the general forum getting shots. To be honest, it never occurred to me.

I have my tetanus, and my kids have the hep (they do it with their regular shots), but I don't think I have a hep A . I suppose it can't hurt, but I wasn't going to bother.

We're eating on board (except on our Xcaret excursion - anyone else going?)

What is this group doing?

In all honesty the thought of needing any additional shots never occurred to me until I started reading that thread. I do intend to call the pediatrician on Monday to see what he suggests. And hubby and I both have regular physicals scheduled within the next two weeks anyway so we will ask our doctors what they think. But I am not going to worry too much about it. We also will eat on the ship except for a Jeep tour on Cozumel.

Slg - did I read somewhere on this thread that you have a 10 or 11 year old son? My DS will be 11 in August and I am hoping there are lots of other boys his age he can hook up with for fun. :sunny:

Same here, Sharon, never even thought of needing shots! We've been to Mexico several times and have never had a problem. The kids of course had their shots when they were younger and I think I read you only need the 2 Hep A shots once, so they should be ok. Hmmmm...wonder if I should look into this. On the other hand, this is our 3rd cruise and it's never been mentioned to me by our doctors when I make our pre-cruise check up for the boys. (I always take them to the doctor right before we leave...paranoid mom!)

And we are cruising with two other families...each family has a 10 year old boy...so that's 3 more new friends for your son!

:woohoo: Lots of 10 year old boys - that's great - I was paranoid that there would only be little kids since school is still in session- Then he would not be too happy with me ! :rotfl:

I did ask our Ped. about Hep A shots when we were in for our well child check a couple of months ago. He said that if we weren't planning on eating anything in port, we'd be fine, although he thought we'd be fine anyways even if we did have a bite to eat. He said people are more concerned about getting Montezuma's revenge than Hep A. We are not planning on spending more money so we can eat at any of the ports so we should be good.

I have been to Mexico a couple of times. One of the times was on a mission trip working on a children's home for girls. I never received a Hep A shot and I have no plans on getting one. I am fine AND I ate local foods.

DH has all the Hep shots because of his work.

Sharon;

You're right, I have a 10 yr old son. He is also turning 11 in August, (the 14th!)

Sandra

Question:

What to wear on the first night for dinner? Is it casual? And what if you are on the early dinner and your clothes haven't yet arrived?

DS will turn 11 on August 4 so they are very close in age!

I believe first night dinner attire is casual. And even though I have not yet cruised on DCL I would assume that they are not going to really strict in the dining rooms the first night, especially for the early seating.

Let me tell you had I known 31 years ago that in 2002 the State of Alabama would do away with the pre-marriage blood test we'd have lived "in sin" for 27 years! I don't even have cactuses in the house. My wife had to give up sewing when I threw her Singer sewing machine in the Gulf of Mexice. Get my point? (Bad pun :teeth: ) I hate needles and would rather barf for a week!

I hope I haven't been to subtle. :rolleyes1

Now as to the dress "code" when we last cruised on the Wonder "semi-formal" night meant long pants and a shirt that didn't say "property of the Holiday Inn". Don't worry about the first night out. We have ressies at Palo's and I am going to start the week off right with the afore mentioned chocolate souffle'. Maybe TWO!! :teacher:

41 days and counting!!!!! :jumping1:

Chris

I just read a cruise report from a guy who has been on several Disney cruises and just returned from a 7 day western one. He made a rather interesting observation worth sharing while we are on the subject of FOOD (again)!! He said they served lobster at Castaway Cay (instead of barbeque) evidently because it was left over from the Captain's Gala the night before! :goodvibes

Imagine with me for a moment - a light warm tropical wind blowing in off the water - steaming lobster and melted butter - no cell phones - no income taxes - no 27 year old DD hitting you up for tuition (she's cramming 4 years into 8 at her fifth different college! I think she is majoring in "undecided") - and nothing to do but to turn yourself INTO a "lobster" all day long! Sure beats snow, pollen, and cutting grass! :sunny:

I just got a note from a friend who said for us to enjoy our cruise, and if we should run short of money, just to contact him - and he'd hock our furniture. What a guy!

Just a little secret to those of us who plan to OD on food. The last cruise DW and I went on we actually LOST WEIGHT. The secret?? Don't EVER use the elevators! You'll get "around" quicker and you won't get as "round"! (I had a friend who said he lost 110 lbs in one day! He got a divorce!!)

Ya'll get packing! Mine's been packed since October! (Don't tell my DW. She thinks she found all my bags already!! BTY the surplus population of chocolate bunnies is down 2 more over the weekend :^)

Later all!
Chris :wave2:

Oops~ She just read my post and there goes my bag (not referring to her of course!!!!) Gotta move the PC so she can't read my posts! :surfweb:

Chris,
You are hilarious! I bet you keep your wife on her toes...uh...guess I should rephrase that... :goodvibes I bet you give your wife no end of amusement?? LOL
Sounds like you and your wife will be like us, free from kids (I guarantee I won't see my 16 year old the whole time), and ready to enjoy some relaxation!
I agree with your assessment on losing weight. Take the stairs all the time and walk deck 4, last time I lost weight as well and there was no skimping on my trips to Scoops (now Goofy's). :) Oh, and they sometimes have lobster on CC, I have been there 4 times (one double scoop) and only saw lobster on the menu once. sorry!
Don't anyone worry about first night dinner, they are pretty relaxed on that one. We have had Lumiere's that first night and I felt overdressed in capris and a nice top. Usually we get Parrot Cay though so then it feels more comfortable being in casual clothes.

It's getting closer...............................

Lisa

Oh great - now I am going to have dreams about lobster on a tropical island AND chocolate souffle! :lmao: Thanks Chris - I am going to gain weight before we even get on the ship ! Better start walking now -

Haven't started packing yet but I did get most of the clothes ironed and ready to pack yesterday and now I have to go buy DS a new suitcase - he's getting so big that when I take his sweatpants out of the dryer I can't tell if they are his or his fathers :confused3 - so the little case we have been using is now too small. :sad2:

Chris...I think the ship should hire you to do some stand up comedy while we are cruising! I love reading your posts...always make me giggle!

I feel like that little boy on the WDW world commercials..."I'm too excited to sleep"...I am just so looking forward to this vacation!

DDF - I just love that little boys voice when he says "I'm too excited to sleep" it's so darn cute. But, you my dear have to sleep it's still a month away!
