May 30, 2009 - Western Cruise Magic

Hey, guess what, guys! I just got an e-mail from DU saying Disney told them they had upgraded me. :yay: I'm supposed to change the room number on my luggage tags. Congrats and all that! Too bad it's the one I already got 2 weeks ago!!! :rotfl: Oh, well, they're a little late!

OK, I'm a little behind in this thread. I won't have time today to resend the FE list - I actually have to work today - and I'm taking a few minute lunch break now. I will send out again for the few people who asked me.

There is a 3rd Nativeway group (I guess we might be by ourselves), we are doing the island and snorkle tour. This is a trip to Stingray city, turtle farm, hell, and a couple of other places.

Still need to do some of the FE stuff for us. Have stuff for the kids, but no idea what to get the adults?!?!?!?

Anyone is WELCOME to join in on any or all of the following activities!!

Friday Night Meet & Greet Dinner - 7:30 p.m. at Florida's Seafood on W. Cocoa Beach Causeway....final head count by May 25 for those of you wanting to join us.

Suzypoo. We will be there. Are we meeting in the lobby and taking the shuttle or are we just going to meet at the restaraunt?

Also, for Brucechase, if we go to Nassau, are you guys going to do the Comfort Suites Atlantis adventure again? Do you think it was worth it. Your trip report sure made it sound fun!

HEY...if the Radisson has a shuttle that will take us, then I'm all for that!!! COOL...didn't know about any shuttle....I will ask when we check in on that Friday and I guess we can all just plan to meet in the lobby at say 7:00 p.m. and go from there??? Sound ok? Shuttle or drive, whichever it ends up being....:-) we leave 2 weeks from tomorrow!!! WOOOO HOOOOO!!!:cool1::cool1:

OMG we leave a week from tomorrow!
I have to take Rita to the dr today and get this.... I'd just called to make her well check visit the same time as Robert's (cause he'll need a physical filled out for Boy Scouts camp this summer) -in June. HE's had many appts for well check visits as well as his asthma/allergy issues (like father like son! LOL) but I found out when I made that appt that little Rita hadn't been to the dr since literally 2004. They even had a hard time finding her file. :lmao: Well she's the one that catches colds here and there but otherwise has no medical issues (Ruby did- ADHD/ODD and all that). Rita's the one with dental issues- like father like daughter on that one! LOL (which btw- I digress but Rita lost her other front tooth day before yesterday so now she's missing BOTH front teeth! The first one was pulled at age 5 and the permanent tooth is there in the gumline visibly pushing out the gumline but refusing to break thru- so we're way used to her missing one front tooth FOREVER but now she's missing both!)

ANYWAY..... I made that well check visit, her first in almost 5yrs, the other day (for June) and now I have to take her to the dr today. I pray it's nothing serious. What happened is a few days ago she showed me a knot she had on the lower back of her head- you know where those bones kinda stick out on both sides right above the neck on the back of your head? She had a small goosegg there- I thought she must have hit her head when swimming and just didn't remember it. I thought it would go away quickly right? Well it didn't and the next day she was complaining about it and when I felt it to see if it was getting smaller- it wasn't and I felt another one right next to it. Still on the bony head part- so I thought well that's another "bump" -smaller- so from the same "bumping of the head" maybe? Again thinking nothing of it. Then yesterday she complained more about those knots hurting and when I felt to see if they were going down- I noticed ANOTHER "knot" in a place there shouldn't be a knot- further down the back/sorta on side of her neck. But not in the normal place you'd think like it's swollen glands (ie: NOT under the jaw or ear- further back but halfway down the neck but not all the way in the back like on the spine. KWiM?) and that one was smaller still but movable and no bone there- there's no way she bumped her neck there and made a knot. Last night she was stuffed up nose- not quite as bad today but she was completely stuffed up last night. She says her throat doesn't hurt at all, she doesn't have tonsils but I looked anyway and her throat looks fine. She says her ears don't hurt either- so I'm not sure what is going on.
Google searches last night say it might just be a cold and the lymph nodes swollen to fight the infection but might need antibiotics if it's a bacterial infection? Today she's saying she can't put her head back or it hurts where those knots are. So I made her an appt this afternoon and I sure hope it's nothing serious...... praying! :(

I didn't know you had lymph nodes like up on the back of your head? But what other explanation can there be? I can't find any other explanation thru searching online and it appears we have lymph glands in a whole lot more places than just under the jaw/under arms- which I didn't know!

Anyone is WELCOME to join in on any or all of the following activities!!

Friday Night Meet & Greet Dinner - 7:30 p.m. at Florida's Seafood on W. Cocoa Beach Causeway....final head count by May 25 for those of you wanting to join us.

Key West - Trolley using coupon to explore the island

Grand Cayman - Native Way Water Sports (owners are friends of mine) - there are 2 different groups of us that have booked excursions with them.....one group is doing Rays/Reef/Rum Point and the other group is doing Rays/Reef/Star Fish

Cozumel - Eagle Ray Divers (again, owners are friends of mine) - 2-reef snorkeling excursion - AWESOME way to see the island, too, from the GORGEOUS water...we enjoy the boat ride equally as the kids LOVE jumping in off the top!:dance3:

Just email me at suzepoo@yahoo.com if you want to join in any of the above activities and I will give more info! Have a GREAT day everyone!!:cheer2:
We're doing the trolley with coupon. I think I already said that a long time ago though so you probably already knew that.

As for the meet and greet dinner- about how long of a drive would that be from FW there and back? I'm wondering if we might be able to do that or if it took too much time since we'll have to pre-pack up our campsite that night to be ready to go first thing in the morning. ? We're still planning on meeting up at the port before boarding too?

Last year when we went on the Mariner of the Seas, we took the Raddison shuttle over to the restaraunts over by the Jetty, they gave us a card and told us to call when and he would come and pick us up. We tipped him and that was that. It was very easy and convenient. I am not sure where the Florida restaraunt is but if it is close by I am sure that they will take us and we can ride together and get the party started!

I had the same thing as your daughter as a child. It would flare up when I got a cold and it seemed it was always there, just larger when I had a cold. When I went through puberty it vanished-- go figure. Hoping it's nothing to worry about but it's good your checking it out.

How old is your DS. Brian is 14 and he's a Boy Scout too--guess they'll have something to talk about. He been to camp 3 years in a row and this year he's going to Thunderbird leadership training -- they just happen to run at the same time this year. It will be nice for them to meet. Brian's a Life Scout and just finished his Eagle Project. He still have a few merit badges to complete before he applies for Eagle, but the big project is done :) Looking forward to them meeting :woohoo:

I am so excited, we get to surprise the girls with their cruise in 2 days. I might cave in and let them open their gifts tomorrow night!

Don't know if anyone cares....but I was able to drop another $20 off my rental car fee after the cruise AND get unlimited mileage by changing from Avis to Thrifty. There was no drop off fee going from PC to the airport (yes, I have it printed out!) Thrifty has a code for a mini-van for $49 per day, but when I added the $35 drop off fee on the way there, it put them way above Avis.

Rental car rates/codes are a pain...you have to try ALL of them to find the best deal!

Robert is 11.5 at time of cruise- he's just crossing over to Boy Scouts from Webelos like right now LOL and he's excited about finallly getting to go to "real" camp (vs camping weekends with the den plus DH, etc.) Oh I'm sure they'll have a lot to talk about- Robert will probably want to pick your son's brain about everything. LOL

Back from the dr and thankfully it's nothing serious- but it is weird. Right when we got in the waiting room she told me she had ANOTHER bump further UP on the back of the head- but when I looked it wasn't a bump- it was a cluster of little red bumps right at the follicles! :scared1: So ofcourse I showed everything to the dr, he looked her all over plus asked questions and basically she has folliculitis- somehow got infection at some of the follicles in one spot right above the "bumps" she has down her head and neck- and those are swollen lymph nodes from the infection of those follicles! gross! Best I can figure is she scratched there too hard when washing her hair (yes recently I finally relented and let her wash her hair for about the past 2wks or so and her nails aren't completely cut off since she's fighting me about that recently wanting to have "long nails") and PROBABLY they got infected because I'm a bad mom who spoils her rotten (ie: a few days ago I let them swim in the pool even though I"d shocked it the day before and the next day- the day I let her and Robert swim- it was still not showing anywhere near proper level of chlorine. But the water looked okay. KWIM? It wasn't nasty looking- just the test wasn't showing high enough chlorine. I let them swim a bit before I shocked the heck out of it again that evening. KWIM? It was the very next morning she told me about that one bump on the back of the head hence the reason I thought it was a goose-egg and she'd hit her head while swimming or something. KWIM?
But apparently it was bacteria got in her follicles or something which is totally gross and makes me feel bad for letting them swim. What else could have caused it? Maybe getting the scratch while washing her hair- then later messing with it or scratching it with maybe having dirt under her fingernails at the time? I guess that's a possiblity.

But anyway he prescribed some ointment to put on the infected follicles and an antibiotic to help fight it since obviously that's why her lymph nodes are going into overdrive to fight the infection. It's only a few little red spots in a cluster in one tiny area of her head right above where the first "knot" showed up on her head a few days ago. Seems like no big deal but apparently her body is having a hard time fighting it? I dunno. She's stuffy nose now and had a bit of a cough this morning- maybe she was coming down with a cold at the same time and that's why it's a big deal fighting this little infection of her follicles? No clue. She hasn't run fever and says she doesn't feel sick except difficulty breathing thru her nose..... :confused3 But I'm glad it's not something serious. I was kinda freaking out with lumps down her neck and her not being able to turn her neck or put her head back without it really hurting. Yanno?

All I know is we gotta get her feeling well and this infection gone before our trip!

(ps. when I read about folliculitis just now when I got home- one article mentioned it can happen from too tight braids. her daddy did braid her hair kinda tight- which she thought was pretty LOL- last week. And I know when Ruby got her hair braided on the last cruise after a few days we had to take them out because she was getting little blister looking things at the edges of the rows of braids- that looked just like these few bumps Rita has in that one spot now! so it sounds like Ruby got folliculitis from the braids but it went away on it's own during the cruise when we removed the braids. From what I'm reading online they can go away/heal on their own -but apparently not for Rita since her lymph nodes are swelling up. KWIM? )

I am so excited, we get to surprise the girls with their cruise in 2 days. I might cave in and let them open their gifts tomorrow night!
I can't believe you've been able to keep this a secret for so long! I never would have been able to. LOL They are going to be so excited I bet!

Glad to hear it's nothing serious...on a different note they just closed a school that's about 20 miles from us due to swine flu! YIKES..it's a little too close to us now, especially since my little guy picks up everything! Him and I are actually fighting off sinus infections right now.

I'm sure Brian will love to talk to him about scouts--working with younger scouts is one of his favorite things. He's Den Chief right now for a group of 1st year Webelos who will be crossing over next March.

I'm so glad you daughter is fine. Hopefully the cream will help fight the infection too and the lymph nodes won't need to work overtime anymore. No more braids for awhile I'm guessing. Hope everyone is healthy by the time you travel. On our last land/sea vacation Brian was sick. He had had a cold and, of course, as soon as we touched down in Orlando he developed a fever. After a Dr. housecall to the Polynesian the results were he had strep throat. He ended up on an antibiotic and luckily after the 5th day we were able to sail. Our trip insurance came in handy that time, since they covered the Dr. housecall and meds and all and luckily we were able to make the cruise because his fever broke 2 days before but he still had to take his antibiotic on the ship. They gave him these horsepill capsules that I had to open up and mix with applesauce because his throat was so sore he couldn't swallow them. He decided to stay back on the ship when we went to Nassau and we came back to find him sound asleep on the couch--he was totally worn out.

Praying for a healthy trip for all of us this time, and all of you too for that matter.

We are also doing the Nativeway Reef, Rays, and Rum Point - was just wondering who the others are. This is my daughter's 12th b-day. Wish I could spend my b-day in GC!

Also wondering if anyone else is going to Mr. Sancho's in Cozumel (if we make it there). We have an all inclusive booked. Now if only the CDC  will change those recommendations. I really feel for the people in Cozumel unable to have any income because of this.

I am so excited, we get to surprise the girls with their cruise in 2 days. I might cave in and let them open their gifts tomorrow night!

Let us know how the girls react. I never could have kept the secret that long. Since my husband has finally returned to work as a truck driver, Natasha (DD) will sneak in my room some nights and we tell "bedtime stories" about each day of our cruise.

Natasha is really looking forward to meeting your girls in Ocean quest.:grouphug:

Wow that's weird your schools closing- ours opened back up and the CDC recommended that they open back up. They aren't recommending any to close right now- because this flu isn't found to be as serious as they previously thought. That school is being extremely cautious I guess. I hope your little guy doesn't get sick!

Robert adores his den chief that is crossing them over to his boy scouts troop. :)

IDK if it's from the braids- although I suppose she might have been itching around the braids with dirty nails or something? She was sweating that night (that she had braids) playing outside and stuff and she and Robert both have a tendency to start scratching their heads because of sweat. They have such thick hair and they sweat a lot on their heads I guess. LOL

She's MUCHO upset that she can't swim right now. Dr said for her to avoid swimming atleast this weekend. She was planning on swimming this evening and her brother/sister are out there swimming and she's super bummed that she can't. :(

Eeek... it's so scary getting this close trying to keep everyone well! So I'm glad what Rita has isn't something very serious and should be cleared up quickly. And that she's not really feeling sick- besides those swollen lymph nodes bothering her if she moves her neck certain ways- yanno?

I hope everyone stays well!

We may be joining the Friday night meet & greet after all. DB (who we are staying with) just emailed me to tell me that they are leaving on the 29th to go to a graduation in Savannah. We may be staying in a motel the night before the cruise instead of at his house. He hasn't let us know for sure yet.

My concern is, if we have to stay in a motel, are we too late to make reservations & still get on the list for the shuttle if we stay at one of the motels that have the shuttle service.

DB told me that they have been planning to go to this graduation for a month. In which case, why is he just now telling us?!?! AAAGGHHH!:scared1:

We made our shuttle reservations on Friday before a Sunday cruise and were on the 11:00 shuttle. If you'll have a car, the other trick is to make a shuttle reservation for 1 (easier to get than a family)...drive family to port and have one adult take the shuttle back after parking at the hotel.

We'll be driving our pick-up so Norbert could drop me off & ride the shuttle back. It just kind of threw me that he waited until a week before we leave home to tell us.

Here are potentially weird questions for you experienced cruisers....

Have you ever heard of people bringing a blender on board? If they have, are there 3-pronged outlets in the rooms to accommodate small appliances? Are small appliances strictly forbidden?

Now for those of you imagining margarita's in our cabin...:rolleyes1... this is a FAMILY cruise..... Just because I am known for having margarita's as my favorite cocktail, is merely a coincidence, I assure you.:rolleyes1

But seriously, I am on a special vegetarian diet, that involves certain smoothies, and I am debating whether or not to try to continue these drinks in some fashion while on the ship. I just don't know if it's feasible. I also don't know how I will manage a vegetarian diet while on the cruise, and what type of options I will be offered. Does anyone have experience with that as well?

Thanks, Donna

We are booked to go to Mr. Sanchos too. We don't have the all inclusive booked, but we do have lunch and horseback riding booked that I am looking forward too. Hopefully we make it there and our girls will get along great that they will have a buddy to play with on the beach.

Let us know how the girls react. I never could have kept the secret that long. Since my husband has finally returned to work as a truck driver, Natasha (DD) will sneak in my room some nights and we tell "bedtime stories" about each day of our cruise.

I will definitely write about their reactions. I am hoping after this weekend, they can start emailing some of the other DISers DD(12) (or around that age) so they can get to know some people before they cruise. I would say they could email the boys too, but they are still in the "I am too shy around boys to talk to them phase." :rotfl:
