May 30, 2009 - Western Cruise Magic

Like I might have to dress for the concierge reception or something......

Dress for the reception????? We are staying in a suite on this cruise (1st cruise). I don't plan on dressing nice for the reception. I'm a very casual person! We will be dressing formally for formal night as a form of torture for the family. I will also dress somewhat nice for semi-formal night and Palo's, but beyond that, I'm fighting tooth and nail that I have to wear capri's with my flip-flop nice sandals to dinner. I would much rather be comfortable in my shorts, shirt and be barefoot. My DH is still flipping out that I paid for a suite. He keeps trying to talk me into downgrading to save the money, but I feel that I so deserve this little bit of pampering. I will probably NEVER be able to afford to do it again. I'm living my life now as tomorrow is so uncertain.

Good news is our documents just came.... got bad news is from the garage...dh's Explorer's gonna cost $1200 to fix.

Great news on the documents! Sorry about the explorer. DH has had some expensive things with his too, like transmission, wheel bearing, etc. Seems to never end.

BTW I did the search again for our cruise docs and found that I needed to put in the travel agent's zipcode and when I did that it showed as having been delivered yesterday. Hopefully they'll send them right out to us and we'll have them by the weekend.

Almost done with FEs but I can't find the info on how big of a box you can send to port and what address. Does anyone know where to find that info. I found it at one point, but now that I need it, I can't seem to find it.

It's Neutrogena sport face spf 70+ with helioplex ..... and I give all that info because I've tried several OTHER neutrogena sunscreens that say non-greasy that totally are greasy! this is the first one that is not greasy- seems to absorb into my skin where i could wear makeup and most likely won't sweat off instead of feeling like my face is covered in goo. Yanno? I've tried so many you have no idea-for years! So it feels like my efforts (and money LOL) are finally worth it....

Oh and ps- do you use the sprays on him or only the lotions? Because my son gets rashes from things- I think he has sensitive skin or something. Anyway he can get "rashy" if he puts on lotion but when we use the spray kind (NOT LOTION- the kind that is a spray and quick dries) he doesn't get rashes. So I'm just curious if you always use lotion types? Just a thought. This kind for my face is lotion type- but our kids always use the spray kind on their bodies, stick kind on their faces.

This sounds like what I got except it isn't the "sport". I got Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 55 with Helioplex. It says Weightless Clean Feel, Fast absorbing and Waterproof.

The other one I got is Neutrogena Healthy Defense Oil-Free SPF 45. Says in bold letters that it won't clog pores, lightweight, non-greasy, sweatproof and waterproof.

I normally use the lotions as DS really broke out with the sprays. I will keep trying everything until I find one that works. My DS will be the one swimming with the bright orange hat on his head with the red hair and horns underneath.:rotfl:

Our cruise documents are here, our cruise documents are here! :woohoo: Sorry, it just makes it so much more real when you have those documents in hand! Hope that everyone gets theirs today as well!

I feel for you. DH drives a VW Jetta TDI. While it gets great mileage (around 45 mpg of diesel) every part costs an arm and a leg. We recently replaced the clutch. DH did the work himself. The clutch was over $800. This is over twice what you'd pay for most vehicles! We've had to replace the injector pump & a few other expensive parts. & you have to take it to a VW dealer to get a diagnostic run on it everytime anything goes wrong (to the tune of $180 each time) because it takes a special program that most mechanics can't afford. He says that he'll never drive another VW or Diesel car for that reason but every time I turn around, he's checking out prices of VW diesels online.

Sorry, didn't mean to go off like that but it felt good to get that off my chest!

Working on our FE tonight!!!
I have 100% cotton fabric and even with 2 layers...1 for front and 1 for back it seems flimsy...what do I need to use between the 2 layers to make it more firm/hard...if that makes sense?

It's on the FAQ thread at the top with all the stickys. I think it says something about 12 inches and a "record" box and 20 lbs. I don't know how strict they are about that size. I am having a hard time finding a box that size. Twelve inches isn't very big...

I was kidding--the post was from a lady who was in a cat 6 and hoping for an upgrade....and wasn't going to even look at her documents. Realistically, the only meaningful upgrade from a 6 is to a suite (a 4 isn't enough difference to matter)....thus, the comment. Sorry...

For Fish Extenders--get craft weight Pellon. You can stitch thru it, glue it, or whatever. It goes between your 2 layers of fabric--like you make a tube and slip it in the center of the tube...then apply the pockets. The pockets will be stitched to the fabric/pellon tube so that the pellon is supporting them. Pellon comes in MANY different weights--light, medium, heavy, and craft. The craft is the heaviest. If they don't have that, 2 layers of heavy weight would probably do it.

On one of our FE, I also used it in the pockets themselves. On the other, I just used it in the hanging part. You can get it at most fabric stores...you'd only need the width of your FE--like 1/4 yard (9 inches) unless YOUR FE is bigger than that. If your's is bigger, get 1/3 of a yard. The Pellon has no grain, so it can be used in either direction (OK, I just went sewing lady guru on you...).

Thanks...a lightbulb just went off-lol! I used to sell lovey blankets that I had sewn...hence my name on the disboards. I went down to the basement to dig through my sewing supplies and voila....pellon!!! It's lightweight...about the feeling of felt...I guess I should double it up! I don't have any bias tape though, but did find rick-rack to use to accentuate the pockets!;)
On a different note I have this really cool disco Mickey siloeutte(sp) fabric that I was going to have run down the length of our FE in a thin strip behind the pockets but dh is afraid that since it is rainbow colors people will think we're...well you know! It looke like this..I had made a wrap out of it for our 1st trip to WDW with ds when he was 5 months old

The is an iron on Pellon iron-on fabric that you could use. You peel one side and iron that side and then peel the other and iron the fabric to the other side. Kinda like a Pellon sandwich. Fabric stores and even Walmart has it.

There are different weights too. Good luck, can't wait to see your creation!

Tracey- I think that fabric is awesome- you should use it! I'm not really sure what he means by that. Will you have names on the FE? That should give a clue that the rainbow colors are meaningless. LOL Or even if you have magnets on your door with names and/or mickey AND minnie heads on there/etc.

WE got our docs..... FOR ONE ROOM! LOL DCL is so weird- why not send them all together and save moolah? I dunno. But at first I thought they would come together but then I looked at my luggage tags and they were all ONE room #. I was like wha??? Then I realized it was only the documents for one room- I guess they are wasting money to ship them seperately. Silly DCL
Well us girls are good to go with luggage tags- boys not so much. LOL

I have some of that fabric! I used to sew most of my own clothing before I went to work full time. I'm so short that I have trouble buying clothes off the rack that fit. Even petites are usually too long. I have a ton of Mickey Mouse fabric just waiting for me to make curtains or a quilt for one of my Mickey rooms.

Just read this and gosh, I'm sorry -that stinks! :(
DH said that I better be happy that our vacation was already paid in full or we wouldn't be going!
Unfortunately we had to put most of the bill on our credit card(the same one I had just paid off with our income tax return :scared1:)
