I am sure my kiddos would love to meet yours. We usually get to port early since we live 20 minutes away, and are up for meeting onboard if thats the plan too.

Has anyone thought about asking Disney for a designated place for all of us to meet? Perhaps our first day at sea in one of the lounges around 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.? I've done this MANY times before on Carnival cruises for my groups, but haven't ever been in a group this large for a Disney cruise before. As my family will be arriving early at the port, that would work for us, but as I recall...as soon as you get checked in, the line forms to get on the ship....has this changed? Also, we are good to meet inside on the ship, too, but agree we need a specific place and time. I have found in the past that immediately AFTER the life vest drill works pretty well, as the only thing after that is early dinner, which also gives everyone time to explore the ship after lunch. :cool1:

We haven't decided yet what our t-shirts will look like, or what color, as lime green didn't work too well on our last cruise, so once we decide, I will be sure to let everyone know.:woohoo:

Just look up a few posts, we just discussed this again and the post # of when we discussed it awhile back was also posted so you can go read there too if you want. :)

I don't think the line starts to board right after check in - unless you come later. We've never even been there "early" and we've still had to wait around about an hour or more both times -and the last time was pretty late and the CC member line was HUGE (it was the EB PC cruise- practically everyone on the ship was a repeat cruiser and quite a bit of us were DIS'ers LOL) I think only if you show up much later do you just line up to board immediately after checking in.

As I said in my post- I don't think it should be a problem to have two meets- might actually work better to not miss anyone- those that come later can do the meet on the ship. We previously discussed that right after life vest drill hasn't worked so wonderful in the past and this time we have early dining (usually have late dining) so I imagine it would be even harder for us to make that meet if it's after the drill- but you guys can do whatever you want. :) We're driving this time so we'll be at the port early for the first time- so we'll DEFINITELY be there for the meet before boarding- we'll make the onboard meeting depending on when/where it is. :)

So happy to be able to get in on the FE exchange list! Thanks!

My plans are set now and my oldest dd (19) will be done college for semester so she is coming.

We are now total 9 :)

Us and seven kiddos dd 19, 17, 14, 13, 7, 6 and lonely prince ds6.

We are in two connecting cat 4 rooms.

For those frequent cruisers, on our April 4th cruise, there were only two dining times, 5:45 and 8:15. There were no staggered 5:30, 5:45 and 6:00 slots like we had before.

They also had dine and play for late diners where club counselors came to dining rooms at 9pm to check in kiddos and take to the club and lab for parents with late dining.

I had not noticed this on my November cruise and don't know if it is permanent or one time thing but thought I would share the info.

Also Christian (cruise director) baby was on our sailing and absolutely adorable :)

I am sure my kids will want to make some friends for the cruise.

I agree with the 5 days for the FE cutoff date, I have been working on the fish extender itself and its coming up nice, without stiching!! To tell you the truth I enlisted my sister help for it, she is the "crafty" one!!

As for the meeting I'm not sure what will work best I have never been to one before, but we will be there for sure!

If anyone has any "leftover" fabric from making your FE I would gladly pay you to ship it to me! The stores near me have nothing Disney and online I can't find anything I like!

My wife used heat tape to iron it on. It took her about 20 minutes to do the entire FE.

See the picture of ours. I think my wife might have some fabric left over if you like this style.

That was on the Magic right?
well we have early dining this time- so 5:45pm is fine for me HOWEVER now I'm intrigued by the dine and play thing you mentioned. What did they do walk around the dining room asking if kids wanted to come to the club/lab or what? this would have been nice on our first cruise- when our kids were younger, no check in/out privileges and we quickly found out that the "fun" activities (according to my kids) happened right during late dining. We ended up spending the week with them not really wanting to eat with us, rushing thru their meals and then begging us to take them to the club/lab so we'd take turns running a child to them as they finished eating. Didn't make for a relaxing dinner atmosphere.
To the point that on the 2nd cruise (again late dining) we didn't make them eat with us. They only ate with us on 2 nights out of 15nt cruise(themed nights and one of which was most of the DIS'ers wearing the mickey mouse club shirts). This time we just ended up being put on waitilst for main dining- then got the main dining and hadn't even asked for that- but we figured we'd give main dining a try this time. And NOW they come up with this plan? LOL For us our kids are old enough now that we could have our oldest take our youngest their if we had late dining and she wanted to eat quick and go... but it's interesting they are doing this now and would have been nice when we were on our first cruise.

But seriously how do they do it? Walk around asking if kids want to go to the club? I also wonder if they'll continue to do this (probably based on response/comments about it like a trial run?) or if it may have been because that cruise didn't have many children and the counselors were bored? :lmao:

We're planning to ask for the kids meals along with our 1st course and then one of us will take the older 2 to the kids clubs if they want to go. I've reserved Flounders for 6:00-7:30 pm on our sea days so I can drop the little guy off too in case he gets antsy. Also I've read that you don't have to eat in the main dining rooms every night, you can eat at the other places(the name slips my mind at the moment)so we may do that on our repeat dining room nights if need be.

On our 1st cruise the kids had their meal long before we had ours. We let them go to the clubs if they wanted to. Topsiders (Magic) or Beach Blanket Buffet (Wonder) are the names that slipped by. I see that you also have a 10YO DD just like us. We will probably let her check herself in and out since she seems like she can handle it (that is if she even goes to the kids club - she really didn't like it last time and is just a little shy).

Mine doesn't have anything disney yet for the same reason, background is blue and pockets are a blue "bubble" like pattern... I saw on the FE thread that you can get disney iron on patches at amazon.com so i might do that....

Did you all see that they have already assigned rooms to the 5/16 western cruise, and they did a lot of cat12 gty upgrades!!! and I checked the dcl website for our cruise for 2adt 1 inf and the only cabins left are 4,5,6.....

Also about the meeting, if anybody in the FE upgrades at the port we will need to know the new room #, so there has to be some kind of get together after we embark for those last minute changes??? at least for the FE group??

On a separate note, can I ask how the weather is in Denver to all of our Colorado Disers?? we are going there on saturday for my husband's work and need to start planning what to pack... and i would love any suggestions as what to do with a very energetic 2 (almost 3) year old in denver....
Thanks!!

Anyone else having trouble accessing their ressie today? I cannot get in to the website to view my ressie for the life of me. Keeping my fingers crossed that they are assigning cabins and our wait will soon be over. I noticed last night a category 9 popped up as available when I was checking availability for the cruise, but when I tried to select a cabin to see how many were available it was gone like a flash and when I refreshed cat 9 was not even available.

I'm guessing they have to assign cabins soon if we are going to receive our cruise docs at the 30 day mark. We're getting closer everyday--how exciting!

I see that they have assigned all the way to the May 23rd.....it's getting close to our time! Wow that really makes it real!

About the FE- it's realy easy to just buy the iron on paper from walmart to print out your own photos/designs/etc. on them and put them on shirts by ironing- I would think it'd be just as easy to do that and iron on the FE pockets? Then you could put whatever design/names/etc. you wanted on it- whatever you can print out you can put on it plus that might be cheaper and faster than ordering something on amazon? Just an idea.

Upgrades at the port would be known once you check in and we were talking about meeting AFTER checking in- while waiting to start boarding by numbers. At that point you'd already know what room you were in- they don't tell you later once you get on the ship, they tell you when you check in if there are any changes from online previously. :)

For those that come later- yes the 2nd meeting onboard would solve any problems with people checking in much later than everyone else and therefore when they check in they get their room assignments or paid upgrades or whatever changes in the room # if it's after we've already met in the waiting area before boarding.

wow yesterday was the 16th and today they are already assigning the 23rd? Wow... I thought we'd have 2wks to wait after I saw yesterday all the may 16th were getting assigned but maybe it will be sooner than I thought! They are getting a move on maybe because there are so MANY cat 12's booked that they need to work on this a bit ahead of time instead of like they normally do it last minute? I mean I've heard that normally it's around 35 days out- and I'm sure that's so they can send out the cruise docs with the info on it so there won't be a ton of confusion about what rooms we're in/etc. And that normally works fine apparently- but that's with less cat 12 cabins sold and therefore less needing room assignments. KWIM? Stands to reason, I guess, if they have a TON of cat 12's sold that they'll need to start a bit earlier to make sure they get them all assigned rooms before they send out the docs.

The ONLY thing I'm concerned about is changing it after the fact!
I mean we have 2 cat 12's and we'll make do with what we get. I really hope that whatever we get that it's not clear across the ship (seperate decks making it even worse) -and I read on the may 16th cruise this did happen with one family and she was freaking out- but then as luck would have it someone else on the ship had a room assigned right next to one of their rooms so they could switch. And their kids were showing in her sig line 18, 16, and I think 10 or something like that. Ours will be 15, 11 and 8- a bit younger. I think if I had an 18 and 16 yr old in the room I wouldn't care WHERE they were. :confused3 Yanno? But with our kids ages I'd rather they not be TOO far away. It would be nice if they were next door but I know I can't be picky with cat 12 gty.

HOWEVER, I might be a bit upset if say we get room assignments and by some miracle we not only have rooms next to one another but let's say we also get an upgrade (I'm not really thinking we will- trying not to get my hopes up. we have 2 in one room and 3 in the other so technically we'd probably be the last on the list to get upgraded after all the people with 4 in the cat 12's who HAVE to be upgraded. yanno?) -but let's just say we get 2 cat 11's next to one another or 2 cat 10's next to one another or dream upon dreams get 2 cat 9's next to one another- and then I've read it can change back later? If I got those assigned and then got to the ship a month later and they said oh that's changed- now you're in cat 12's on seperate decks.. I admit I will be sad.
Yes that could happen from the beginning but with worrying about that happening for months and then getting assignments that are NOT like that and feeling relief only to have it then changed to being far away.... it would be a bummer. Especially if not only far away but bumped back down to cat 12's or a lower category- yanno? I know the rule is you get what you get (and don't throw a fit LOL) but it seems kinda stinky to give assignments and then change it back. And I'm reading on the board this has happened before! I really think they should just not give you an assignment at all if there is a chance it might be changed (worse) again. yanno?

Ofcourse by the same token I read of one that was upgraded a few categories then got to check in and was told they were upgraded EVEN MORE to a verandah! (wowzer!) So I guess it can go the good way too- I just know I'll be sad if we get good upgrades and/or rooms close together and then find out it's changed (in a bad way) once we get on the ship. Yanno? Is that bad of me to feel that way?

I totally know what you mean!

But at least is we wind up in Cat 12's they are all adjoining, so surely they would be side by side, I mean why not. We are already planning on staying 1 adult in each room anyway, with our kids only 9 and 7 I really couldn't do that. We actually even split with connecting rooms last May! I am so paranoid, what if something happened in the middle of the night and the connecting door closed......not likely but we just felt better having one of us with each of them. Then they both got the top bunk too. We had connecting SPH rooms.

I was "stalking" the other threads too, seems to me that the family that got split up should be able to get 2 cat 12's if that is what they initially reserved. I can't figure out why they wouldn't move them back down!

I am hoping of course for the upgrade to a window, but I think I would rather have connecting 10's. Do any 11's or 9's connect? I will have to go study the map and quit refreshing compulsively to see if anyone has their assignment!!!

I've heard of cat 9's connecting but I'm not sure about 11's?

Well the thing is actually the worst can be still in cat 12's (or put back in cat 12's is actually worse IMO) and far far apart. And it's happened. There were posts about people in cat 12's far apart and very disappointed and then other posts where they got an upgrade, were far apart, and DCL wouldn't even let them back in cat 12's to try to get closer together!

For us at our children's ages we'll LIVE if we are far apart but it will make it a very very different cruise for us (and not in a good way). It will take a lot of our time going from room to room numerous times during the day (getting up, checking on where they are as we're using the rooms to do that, getting ready for things we're doing together including dinner, etc.) and I know last time across the hall was perfectly fine but we did have to go "back and forth" between rooms quite a bit- which will be a major pain if we're clear across the ship and maybe even far apart on seperate decks as well.

I know we have to take what we get- what my "concern" was about if they upgraded us and/or gave us rooms close together (even if not an upgrade) and then CHANGED it and we found out when we went to check in that day to board the ship. I had no idea they'd do that. I knew you get what you get and I knew that sometimes (not always, but usually) you get room assignments within a month before the cruise but I only RECENTLY found out that what assignment they give you can also be changed again! Could be rooms far apart, could be bumped back down to cat 12 again, could be both those things- and that will be a major bummer if we're already given rooms that are ideal for us (close together and maybe even an upgrade) and then it's yanked back to cat 12's far apart. KWIM?

Hi everyone! I just booked this cruise for myself, Laura, and my DD Melissa who will be turning 23 just before we sail. She is graduating from college on May 2 and she wanted a western cruise for her birthday/graduation for just the two of us, so mom has granted her wish! We are both extremely excited! It will be number 2 for her and 7 for me (I am addicted, I admit it!). Since I will only cruise Disney, she didn't have a choice! I tried to get her to take the eastern (we have never been there!) but she loved the western so much last time that we are doing it again. This will be my 5th western! Oh well, we are looking forward to a week of mother/daughter bonding, sipping drinks next to the pool and relaxing! The weather should be perfect, just like the cruise, so we should all have a fantastic time!

I also wonder if they'll continue to do this (probably based on response/comments about it like a trial run?) or if it may have been because that cruise didn't have many children and the counselors were bored? :lmao:

It was on the Magic. We had main dining so didn't see how it worked, but I was told that counselors waited at the front of each restaurant and kids who wanted to go were checked in there by their parents at 9:00 p.m.. It was listed in the Navigator with how to do it.

We are wait listed for main (that's what happens when you book 6 weeks out lol) of our 13 cruises, we had late once and honestly we hated it. I am accepting that I will probably have late this time and am going to avoid thinking about it until I have to. We just don't like eating that late. I will wish for some pixie dust and anything is possible :) Funny, some love late, some love main. Thank goodness not everyone wants the same thing.

My kids agree that it seems the most fun activities occur during late dining time and with so many kids main is the only thing that works for us. Even though a little rushed getting ready, better than sleeping in their soup bowl.

By the time we receive entrees, my kids have devoured their mickey bars and are off to the club/lab til show time. My kids don't spend much time in the club or lab, but when they do it is usually while we finish dinner. Big ones take the littler ones and they take turns so we actually each only do it once a cruise.

We had rooms that were not close together on our cruise last week and it was a pain but doable and considering the great rates we paid I was ok with the inconvenience. We were on the same deck, same side, but opposite ends. It would actually have been closer and faster to have been on different decks above or below each other near the stairs. We had one cruise where our rooms were separated by one cabin. We have also cruised and gotten people to switch with us to put our rooms together after boarding the ship.

Our best upgrade was booking connecting 10s. When our luggage tags came, they were for side by side 8s. We got called and told to change room numbers on luggage tags and had been complimentary upgraded to connecting 6s. At port we then paid to upgrade to a 3 and 4 connecting at last minute. Upgrade cost about 2k. All total the cruise was around 6k with the upgrade. Now that was a nice price and probably never happen again, it was I think an October cruise :)

This time we just decided we need connecting rooms for sure and booked two connecting 4s.

I am getting excited even though we just got off the ship :)
