Hi, Brabant family. Glad to have you join us and looking forward to meeting you all. Having been on the Dream perhaps you could help me with a problem. I have a 41 year old special needs daughter who would love to ride the aquaduct if I could get her onto it. How many stairs (approximately) are there up to the start of the aquaduct?---- and , with help, would we be holdig up the little ones too much if we tried to get her up there? If it's not possible we'd be fine with it but I know she would love to ride with me. Thanks for your help and , again, welcome. It's good to hear from someone who's already been on the Dream. Hi Sally! i got a response from disney concerning the aquaduck and handicap accessibility. Here it is:

7/5/11

Dear Lisa,

Thank you for your interest in a Disney Cruise Line vacation!

I would be happy to assist you.

The entrance to AquaDuck is only accessible by stairway and is not
wheelchair accessible. However, if you are able to assist the Guest, up
the stairs, she will be able to ride the AquaDuck. Please keep in mind
the entrance of the AquaDuck is on Deck 12 but the ride launch area is
on Deck 16. Therefore, there are 4 decks of stairs to climb. For more
information, you can speak with a Crew Member at the AquaDuck's
entrance.

In addition, the minimum height requirement to ride AquaDuck is 42”. If
you want to ride the AquaDuck as a single Guest in the raft, the minimum
height requirement is 54”. Guests who are under the age of 7 must be
accompanied by a Guest 14 years of age or older. However, both must meet
the minimum height requirement. At this time there is no weight
restriction to ride AquaDuck.

Due to safety concerns, Guests who do not meet the minimum height
requirements are unable to ride AquaDuck.

I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further
assistance in planning your visit, please feel free to contact us.

We look forward to sailing with you!

Have a Magical Day!

Thanks so very much, Lisa, You've made my day. My Kerry is going to be practicing stair climbing daily to get ready for the ride. I'm happy to be able to give her the chance to experience the thrill of a lifetime. You are wonderful to get the information for me----I did message the address you gave me before but ,as yet, have not received an answer from them. Thankyou so very much for forwarding the good news to me. We will have a great time. You're the best. l

Thanks for the welcome. I will find our statroom number (deck 6 midship I believe) and post it. We are from Lakeland Florida and this will be our 10th Disney cruise (DH and I). Excited to get Platinum once we get off. The girls aren't far behind. Hannah (DD-8) is our social butterfly so she will be excited to meet some friends from here her age. She loves the clubs and has been in the Dream clubs 2 times if anyone has questions for her. Rebecca (DD-4) has been in 2 times too but still likes spending time with Mommy and Daddy so she pages us a lot.

Snoozin-Crusin to answer your question, yes lots of steps. On Deck 12 is where the line up starts. We always took the stairs next to Mickey pool up to Deck 12 to ride, but you would want to take the elevators mid- ship up a deck and then scoot around to Aquaduck entrance. Once "In line" there are approx 10 steps to a small platform then another 10 into the funnel. Again a small platform here as well. Once inside the funnel, there are maybe 6 steps and a platform, another 6 steps and a platform and then the final 4 steps to the loading dock. Of course I am estimating step numbers but the platforms are there, like a small break in the steps. Thank goodness it gives me a chance to catch my breathe. LOL. I hope that makes sense.

As for taking your daughter up the steps, there is plenty of room for others to get by you if they need to, Easily fitting 3 people across the actual step if needed. Please do not worry about others here, you will fine. If she can get up the steps with help, and she wants to ride, let her ride. The ride overall is very easy as rides go. The 2 dips are the most wow portion and you do get wet but otherwise a very easy ride. I can answer specifics if you need them. There are 2 handles for her to hold and they will want whoever is biggest in the back. So she may need to ride with another adult, as you will want her in front of you. You (or another adult) will ride with their feet under her arms. She rides up front with feet crossed and holding on. The only other thing you want to know if the exit. The exit is small and narrow. I needed help getting up. If you think you will need help exiting her quickly (not crazy quickly but not super slow) I would have another adult waiting for her at the exit to help her get up and out. Again ask questions if you need them. But go, this is very doable, especially when the Aquaduck first opens and there are less crowds.

Again, please ask questions. We have done Remy but not Palo (yet). And we have been on the Dream 2 times, a 3 night and a 5 night. We are super excited. DH already has some FE gifts for you guys too!

Now we know who the "go-to" person is if we have questions :goodvibes Did your last disboard group have a "meet and greet" the first day? If so may i ask where they had it at. I don't know the areas on the Dream so I don't know a good place to suggest one. I will put the rest of the info. on the list for you as well. Your DH is on the ball with the FE gifts! I am still in the process of trying to figure out what i want to do for a gift !
Wow, 10 DCL cruise!! I can only dream :lovestruc I am working on reaching that number. it just takes us so long to save up to go on one, I may be 90 by the time we reach that mark :rotfl2:

Lisa

I also noticed while compiling our FE list, that i hadn't asked for email addresses...sometimes my brain doesn't work like it should lol. If you don't want to post them on here, you can send it by private message. That way when the "cut off" date for joining arrives I can email everyone a copy of the list to take along with you.

Lisa

Lisa,

Bon Voyage is where the Meet and Greet was on the first day. Bon Voyage is right off the lobby on Deck 3. 2 nice little areas with chairs and such. We did not attend due to some health difficulties with my father who was traveling with us.

As for the 10 cruises, we are blessed to live nearby so we don't ahve to pay for traveling to the boat. We are also blessed that Grandmom and Grandpop (My parents) have paid for several of these. LOL.

Experts..... when I told DH he said we are now the Cruise Directors. :rotfl: Not that we know everything but we feel like we have a great knowledge base due to our love of Disney. We also live 35 minutes from WDW and are passholders so they get all of our money. :rotfl2:

Ask away, we are glad to help.

It sounds like we have a wonderful group. The Brabants are fabulous with their information. I wish I lived so close that we could go on the disney Cruises so often. It costs a fortune from Canada. Thanks again for all your help. We are all ready with passports in hand for our trip. Just wish the time would speed up. Sally

Thanks so much Suzy for all that information. How lucky you are to live so close to Disneyworld and how nice of you to offer your insights on the Dream. We are certainly going to take Kerry on the Aquaduct with help. Our grandson and his girlfriend are going with us and will be drafted into helping both at the top and bottom of the ride. I just can't believe what wonderful people we've met on this dis site -- everyone is so kind and accomodating. Looking forward to meeting you all Sally

While exploring the Dream, my husband and I stumbled upon an out of the way location that we think would be great for the meet and greet. The Outlook Bar on deck 14 midship is a small bar (no age restrictions) that is in the funnel above the Edge (tweens club). There is 1 elevator midship that goes to Deck 14 too. But only one. There is a piano, lots of seats and a great view! I don't think many people get up there. The bar should be open too. This was a great find and we plan to "sailaway" there too! Just a thought.

We hope you guys enjoy planning for your cruise as much as we do!

Sounds great to me too. I don't drink but I do enjoy a non alcoholic strawberry dacquari and my husband loves his beer in moderation.. Kerry has enough trouble staying vertical without alcohol so she'll just have the same as me. As for Shane and Shannon, they do enjoy to drink every now and then. The view would be gorgeous. Sally

Here's another question for all of ya...do we want to come up with a name for our little group? Just a thought, i know the last one I was in we didn't have a name, but when we thought we were going to get to sail last year, that group had come up with a name. Up to you guys!! :)

and another thing, even thought it will be a while off, do we want to set a cut off date for joining our group at one month before sailing (april 2012) that way we can have an accurate count and have enough time to get any last minute things we might need for our FE gifts. Sorry i have ask so many questions, i just wanna try and do a good job :)

Lisa

Sally, That is too funny. I am actually allergic to alcohol so I stay with the non stuff too! So do the girls! :cool2: Dh is the only drinker here. But we will all enoy that view. I would recommend getting up there when the ship is moving if you can. We went up one night, piano player, his wife, and the bartender where the only 3 there. Ed and I were just roaming around waiting on the little one to page us to pick her up. The view (not of the ocean because it was dark) but of the ship lit up at night was amazing. I think this will be a gem to all who go up there. Talk to you soon!
Suzy

Lisa, I vote for a name. The June cruise we were just on had "Motley Cruise". People did some amazing things with the name and a logo they also made up. Down to shirts with the logo. We got an awesome magnet with the name and logo that is proudly on our fridge! It is nice to be able to call ourselves something other than the May 3rd cruisers! :rotfl: As for suggestions, I have none, but I will ask the crew when I get home from work (Don't tell my boss).

And Lisa, You are doing a great job. No worries there! I too agree for a cut off date. Very hard to think you are done with gifts and then need to add more.

Thank you,Suzy! and don't worry, your secret is safe with me, i won't tell your Boss:rotfl2: I am horrible at thinking up names, so if your crew has suggestions, they are more than welcome!!!! I agree that "may 3rd cruisers" is sorta boring lol.
