May 3, 2003 - Magic Eastern Cruisers

First, Jeanne434, congratulations to your daughter on her graduation, and her commitment to her country. Bravo!

On a less happy note, it looks like I'm not being a worry-wart.

Regardless of how much of an over-reaction I (and Canadian health authorities) believe it is, the WHO has issued an advisory against non-essential travel to Toronto this morning, which will be in effect for three weeks.

Which means that Toronto, like various Asian cities, is *very likely* to be added to the list which would bar embarkation to the DCL. (Yes, I spoke to DCL this morning, and there is a list of places, all Asian cities on the WHO list, which if you are from or have been through in the previous 10 days, they will not let you aboard.) Toronto isn't on that list -- yet.

I am waiting, now, for Air Canada to release a policy that will allow more flexibility in re-booking our points-based flights on partner airlines flying through Denver or Chicago, instead of Toronto. But, there's no guarantee we're going to find available flights and times that work at this late date.

I can't *believe* there is a very real possibility we might miss this dream cruise because of a 4-hour layover at the Toronto airport!

I am, as a friend of mine would say, absolutely STROBING right now.

Jeanne434 - congratulations to your daughter. We will have to drink a toast to her fine choice of career at the wine tasting!

Northernmouse - have you contacted Air Canada directly? Following the WHO guidance it is likely that the number of non-essential travellers to Toronto will fall significantly. They may well decide to reroute some of their existing schedules themselves.

We're leaving for Florida on Friday - TWO DAYS! Better start packing I guess!!!

Northernmouse--

We're sending all of our pixie dust! We have faith that we'll see you on May 3rd!

Thank you, all for your notes of encouragement and PD.

I have decided not to wait for any official announcements. My biggest concern is our flight on points -- seats are limited, Air Canada can't re-route through the US, and United is the only AC points partner. So if there's a 'rush' on changes, I don't want to be the last one in line.

So . . . now we're leaving in six days, on a trip that circumnavigates North America, but goes nowhere near Toronto. (Personally, I don't feel good about that.)

And our well-planned route has dissolved into a 3-hour drive from Edmonton to Calgary to pick up Tanner, flying from Calgary to Denver to Orlando, returning home from Orlando to San Francisco (check on a map to see how much sense that makes!) to Calgary, and then driving for 3 hours again to get home.

However, the trip across the Carribean with a great group of DIS'ers will more than make up for extra travel time!

Now, I really MUST pack!! (and hope United doesn't announce more financial problems . . . )

:) :D

nothernmouse,

Keep the Faith, even if we can't make it, I know you will!!!

My DW and I have been trying for the past three days to work out a plan to get on the May 3rd cruise, but nothing has worked out, we know there is a reason why this has not worked out, and we are content with that. You and the rest of the May 3rd cruisers have a MAGICal cruise!!!

Andy

Thank you, Andy.

I really wish things would work out for you, too. You're such an important member of this cruise group, it will definitely feel like there's a hole when we get together physically, if you and Hazel are not there.

Best wishes, and we'll still keep our fingers crossed!

Northernmouse, we will be keeping our fingers crossed for you and hope all goes well. We know you will make it one way or the other and look forward to seeing you on Saturday onboard.

Who knows, you may get lucky for an easier route, we hope so.

We are good to go! All of our flights have been successfully changed, and we will be arriving in Orlando late on April 30! (So now, I must rush my planning!) And I don't think I over-reacted by moving quickly. I personally have NO fear of Toronto, but I have BIG fear of possible change to DCL policy which would deny us boarding.

We're REALLY looking forward to seeing everyone then. Save travels to all who are leaving soon, and we'll see you in the Promenade lounge around 4:20-isn -- if not at the pool at the Radisson the night before!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Congrats on getting your flight all straightened out...better to be safe than sorry.
See you on the 3rd!!!:)

This time next week we will be setting off for the coast!!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

We did FINALLY get our documents..... no upgrade to the Roy suite, but, oh well........ ;) I guess I really am a bit excited about the SPH room we got this trip..... If we are happy there the DCL trips may get closer and closer together!!

I also got the mickey heads...... all glued together and ready to laminate...........

DD4 tried on all her clothes this morning and DD10 is in line for tonight......... Then it is the ... DUM DA DUM.... IRONING!!!!
But I promised I would not send it all out to the cleaners this trip... BUT!?? If someone else took it around there that would be ok.... Right???

So....... been gone for a while....... lost in the malls of Dallas....... When are all the final meetings???

Pre-night at the Radisson??? Everyone coming out to the pool by 5-6 or so?? (We plan on being there by around 2-3 that day, but we'll see.....) I can bring a mickey sign or something if yall would like.... Meet for drinks, snacks, or even dinner by the pool???

1) after muster--- go straight there or back to cabin to drop vest and then meet?? Sounds like a silly question, but we missed a whole group because of it last trip....:(

2) Wine tasting in the "WALT SUITE"!!!!!! Is the time still 1:30??? I do not want to miss this!! Seeing as how DCL could not see their way to up grade my 10 to a 1 -- This may be my only chance!!:) :p :)

The jitter bug has hit me and I cannot sleep at night now........ Which is a good thing seeing as how I must leave alot of stuff ready to go for our teacher appreciation week (same week as cruise) when we leave on thurs.! There is one for all you teachers out there....... For teacher appreciation week I am just completely taking my child out of school!!! ENJOY THE QUITE!!!!

so catch me up is there anything I have missed ?????

northernmouse--- WOW!! So glad everything has worked out....... And I agree, I think alot of this is a big over reaction!!!
See you there......

Hey, Barb, good to here from you!

Now that the panic over changing our flight routing is done, I'm staring at my date book in horror realizing that I have lost a half of day of work on the phone yesterday to the airlines and two of my last six days at work with WAY too much to do!

But I did manage to find the lime Mickey's (wasn't sure we'd have them at the Home Depot's up here), AND a bunch of colours that I feel compelled to paint our bedroom when we get back!

Changed the rental cars; booked a package for IOA at another Radisson hotel for the extra two nights we'll have in Florida before the cruise, and am in the course of changing all of our PS's since there's apparently an e-night for our WDW portion of the holiday after our cruise. (Probably didn't mention that we're staying the the WL for 3 nights after, and had to change our return date to one day sooner, too.) Makes me wonder why, if I can change the whole thing in 6 hours, did I spend a whole year planning??

:teeth: :teeth:

See some of y'all (it's y'all, right Barb?) at the pool next Friday night!

Will you keep the ship in "SHIP-Shape" for all of us May 10th cruisers??? I hope you all have a wonderful vacation! Anyone in room 6612?

We will be there! DH, 2 DD's, and myself. We are flying in on Friday, staying at the Marriott at the airport for Friday night ($29.00 on priceline) and taking a limo to the ship at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. I can't wait!!

Welcome to the cruise Kym Lain!

I will add you to our evergrowing list of family DIS - please join us at the Promenade Lounge after the Mustering (Life Jacket Drill).
And if you get the opportunity, read over our posts from the past few months - we are a motley crew (Ohhh, that was awful!)

Rae

mmouse - thanks for the dining schedule, much appreciated.

Kym Lain - Welcome aboard, look forward to seeing you on Sat. This is so exciting, don't let us scare you off with all our excitement in here. We're a little bit crazy right now being only 8 days away. I'm sure you know the feeling. See you soon. Bon Voyage!!!:earsboy: :earsgirl:      :Pinkbounc :bounce:
