May 28, 2011 - 11 Night Mediterranean Sailing from Barcelona

Soooooo, I'm sure that you all have probably already heard, but Tunis is no longer a stop and we are now going to Palermo:banana::banana::banana::cheer2::cheer2::woohoo::yay::yay::cool1::cool1:

Can you tell that I'm really excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I change the information on the website and add information about Palermo.

I've update tour companies in Palermo, the links for Palermo, still waiting for Disney to post their excursions. Once they have done that I will update that also on the website.

Hope this helps everyone.

Rachel - Yes....I did receive your email and sent you a reply.
The trip is getting closer and it is exciting thinking about in the middle of all the ice and snow here in Texas. Today we had another 6 inches of snow on top of the ice we had on Tuesday. Schools have been closed all week! Crazy.

We still have openings on tours in LaSpezia (Pisa & Florence), Rome and Naples. Let me know if anyone is interested.

What are your plans for Naples and Rome? We already did both last year, but my m-i-l is coming this time so now I have to do somethings over again. Probably won't be interested in your Naples tour, because I only want to go to Pompeii and Herculaneum. But, Rome we might be interested in joining you. Basically we want to do The Vatican, Pantheon, Coliseum, Roman Forum and Trevi Fountain, we aren't interested in anything else. We also want to hit the Vatican first with a guided tour before it gets too crowded.

We will be 4 in Naples, but probably only 3 in Rome. I don't know if I want to take my daughter all over the place again. She might be bored, and she likes it in the kids clubs on the Magic.

Glad that Disney made a decision on Tunis!! Thanks for posting the info, Cindy - now we have another port to research!! :surfweb:

Cindy - on the website for the Roll Call and the FE list, we are listed twice - once with Nanarella and once ourselves - Vicki & Dan. We will be participating in the FE; and Nanarella, John & Greg will be participating, too, as their own cabin. Thank you, again, for making the site and all the great info!!:worship:

Shirley - what are the details on your Villefranche tour?

I was thinking about Pirates, and looked up the release date for Pirates 4 -- it's May 20th!! Soo - does that mean we will get to see it on board?? Dan and I were in Hawaii earlier this year, and saw some of the locations while they were shooting - can't wait to see them in the movie! pirate:

There is a good possibility that they will be playing it on the cruise. We got to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D on the cruise last year.

We're planning on going to DLP after the cruise. I noticed some of you guys are too. How are you planning on getting from Barcelona to Paris? This will be our first time in Europe so we're a little inexperienced. Thanks!

We are also planning on going to Paris after the cruise. We are flying from Toronto into Paris and then flying EasyJet to Barcelona. Our round trip flight between Paris and Barcelona is about 100 Euros.

we are planing to fly in Barcelona the day before the cruise then fly to paris the day we disembark stay in paris at DL hotel with DVC points till june 11 and fly back to DFW Total time of 17 days 1 longer than our magic inaugural pamama cruise in 2005

Have updated the ports on the website, times are based on what is posted on the DCL site. Please excuse the photo, I did my best with windows paint. As soon as DCL posts a new picture of the route I will replace my picture with theirs.

I have 3 seats available for Naples and 4 seats for Rome for the following tours.

We are doing Pompeii and Herculaneum only when we get to Naples. Probably a few hours in each place, with a private guide in Pompeii. If anyone is interested in joining us, please let me know.

In Rome we are only going to do The Vatican, the Coliseum, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, and Trevi Fountain. We will have our own private guide at the Vatican. If anyone is interested please let me know.

For Naples the total for 7 people would be 550 Euro (including the private guide). For Rome the total for 7 people would be 600 Euro (including a private guide at the Vatican). Tickets to get into the attractions will be extra.

Thanks Cindy

Cindy-
Are you still interested in the Naples & Rome Tours? Not sure if you already booked something on our own.

In Naples we are doing Sorrento, Pompeii (with a private guide), and Positano.
We have up to 5 places available on this tour. It is with RomeCabs (Stefano).

In Rome we are doing the Rome Highlights (that you mentioned). Vatican in the morning with a private tour guide for 2 hours and Colosseum in the afternoon. We have 3 places available on this tour. It will be a full days tour as we hope to see as many of the sites as possible since we haven't been there before. It is with RomeCabs (Stefano).

Let me know.

Vicki-
We are still working on Villefranche. Is there anything particular you want to do or see there? I will let you know as soon as I have something confirmed. I just know that I want to do private tours in most of these locations. Last year when we did the repositioning cruise we were not too impressed with the DCL excursions. Let me know if you are looking for something specific.

Sorry to interrupt but you guys should go to St Paul. We went there with our priv guide in 2007, and it was our fav place in that area !:flower3:

Shirley,

Thanks, but I'm editing this to let you know that we are going to go ahead and schedule our own tours. I sent you a PM. You have really great tours scheduled, you are really going to enjoy yourselves.

Hi everybody, haven't been on here for a few days but am really excited to hear about Palermo instead of Tunis!!
We, especially DH, had been pretty worried about staying in Tunisia with the unrests, and now are really looking forward to Sicily (never been there before either!).

Should any of you contemplate private tours in Palermo, we would be very interested in joining. I have followed all your conversations about private tours so far and it sounded really tempting. However, as it is mostly Rome and Naples you are discussing, we have decided against it:

- won't do any tours in Rome but go on our own and just soak up a bit of the atmosphere in a relaxed way, without any itinerary. We're planning to go back to Rome for 3 or 4 days next year, to see it in depth.
- and in Naples, I am totally in favor of spending the whole day on our own in Capri to follow up childhood memories and show DH this beautiful island.
- I know some of you are thinking about tours in Villefranche as well - that is the one place we are still really undecided about.

Anyway, what I really wanted to say: If anybody knows about something nice to do in Palermo, we would definitely be interested :yay:

Gina - Why was it your favorite?? Thanks for the information! I appreciate it very much! Any other input is also welcome!

In Rome we are only going to do The Vatican, the Coliseum, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, and Trevi Fountain. We have no desire to see anything else. We will have our own private guide at the Vatican. If anyone is interested please let me know.

My mom may be interested in joining you for the Vatican. how long is the tour and do you have a price yet? Thanks for your help.

The tour would be all inclusive, everything in Rome, not just the Vatican. She is more than welcome to join us, it will be a really good trip. For 7 people it will be 600 Euro for the entire day, that includes our tour guide in the Vatican, but does not include our entrance fees (less than 20 Euro for the Vatican per person and less than 20 Euro per person for the Coliseum/Roman Forum). This is for a private van and guide, the van can get into places that the larger buses can't get into, therefore we have less walking. And, our guide will tell us a lot of information as he drives.

Let me know if she is still interested, we have 4 seats available.

I'm considering booking a tour in Palermo through the Tours by Locals website.

The tour is Valley of Temples and Archaelogical Museum. Here is the description of the tour:

It is basically a walking tour but, if you like, can include a short drive to reach the museum that is 1 Km away from the Temples. The tour includes the visit of the Valley of Temples like mentioned above plus the visit of the Archaelogical Museum. This is considered one of the best in Europe because closely tied to its territory and modernly displayed. The Museum owns a superb attic and italiot ceramic collection; the original gigantic statue of Atlas from the Olympian Zeus Temple; a couple of marble Greek statues (the Ephebus and the Dying Warrior 480 B.C.). Furthermore a considerable collection of finds from every sector of the ancient city (political agorà, necropolises, houses, sanctuaries) will give you a more complete insight of the life of people in the Greek and roman antiquity.

This is an easy level tour, suitable for everybody.

It will cost 209 USD for up to 10 people. Plus, 10 Euro entrance fees per person. This tour is only 4 hours long and will give you plenty of time to do something else while in Palermo if you wish.

If anyone is interested let me know. The museum also has the original Rosetta Stone, which is something I'm really interested in.

This sounds interesting! However, what is making me wonder is the short length of the tour: I found out that the Valley of Temples is in Agrigento, which is approx. two hours driving time from Palermo according to Googlemaps. So wouldn't it take 4 hours already only to get there from the ship and back?
Or do we not really dock in Palermo but rather much closer to Agrigento? Thanks in advance for explaining as I'm confused now! :flower3:
