May 26, 2010--5/26/2010 10 Night Mediterranean

Hello to Everyone!

My husband surprised me with this cruise for our 25th Anniversary!
I am so excited! We will be childless on this cruise for the 1st time. Since we honeymooned at WDW before we had kids, we thought celebrating this anniversary as a couple would be appropriate. (The DS & DD are disappointed, but they understand.)

I have been reading through the previous posts and have gotten a lot of great information from all of you.

We will be doing most of the excursions on our own, as we are comfortable wandering off on our own. (I am a super-planner, so most of our travels are pretty well-researched. My husband can pack in 5 minutes and go anywhere...I'm so jealous.)

We haven't booked our flights yet and are still deciding whether to get to Barcelona a day in advance or just come in the morning of departure. Many decisions to make. We live in Atlanta. Do any of you live nearby?

This is going to be so much fun! :goodvibes

Welcome to all the new cruisers. It's going to be a fun cruise.

Ga-yaya, We are from FL and also have no kids with us. I am also a super planner. This is our fifth Med cruise and we always do the ports on our own. I would really sugest you go a day early if you can. The way the airlines are you never know if your flight wiil make it. Also Barcelona is a great city.

Thanks Kiss-im-mee2. You are probably right about getting to Barcelona a day in advance. I'm usually terribly tired when arriving and just want to sleep! That way we could catch up on sleep :crazy2: and do some sight-seeing in Barcelona before cruising.
Look forward to meeting you - another couple without kids! :)

There are a few of us here from Georgia. We are up here in North Fulton - Johns Creek/Alpharetta as well as JocJarMom. Welcome! If no one has told you yet check out the facebook page and website. Can't believe this cruise is almost 2 months away!

Hi GA-yaya!
We are from Atlanta also (East Cobb). We are flying on May 22nd... decided to go a few days early to explore Barcelona!

Thank Karen!

We live in Alpharetta. This is really a small world, isn't it?
I just signed up on Facebook, too!

We haven't made our flight arrangements yet. Actually, we haven't decided exactly when we are leaving or returning. Guess we need to do that. ;)

alright I took the plunge and booked today. we will be joining on this cruise as a celebration of my graduation, moving, and maris bday.

Welcome! Glad you will be joining us!!! You have alot to celebrate!

Welcome!!
We live in Greenville, SC. Not in Atlanta but not too far away either.

GA-yaya....Welcome and looks like we will be having quite a group from the south cruising without children. We are also celebrating our anniversary (30th). We are from North Carolina. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

I do have a question for those of you experienced Mediterranean cruisers. I know there is one formal and one semi-formal nights of dining. What do you wear the other nights? I just started to realize that's quite a bit of "extra" clothing you have to take just to eat in. I was mostly thinking of what I'd wear on the excursions until I really got to thinking about all the dinners. I'd be interested in just a general idea.

Also, I've seen the list of what each of our dinners will be at night, but does anyone know what order the rotationals are? What type of dinners are the Master Chef, Flavors of the Med., Pirates and Villans, etc.?

Thanks for your help!!!!

I usually just bring a few sun dresses and wear them twice. Also a nice pair of black pants and a couple of nice tops are good. On formal night a sparkley top and the black pants works well. With a ten day cruise you can wear something twice and no one will care. People don't get too dressed for dinner. They just don't want you to wear shorts and tee shirts.

We finally made our plane reservations. We will be flying American Airline from Orlando to NY then on to Barcelona on the 24th. On the way back we fly Iberia to Madrid then to Miami and lastly to Orlando. We got all the reservations thru Iberia for $790 so that's pretty good.
We will be staying at the Hotel Contenental both pre and post cruise. We have stayed there twice before and really like the location. We don't mind the pink decor. We can take the airport shuttle to Placa Catalunya and walk one block to the hotel. We will also walk down La Rambles to the port shuttle and take it to the ship.

Kiss-im-mee2....thanks! I'm having no problems with the daytime clothes, but having a little trouble with the night time clothes. This should help...would need some lightweight jackets for those sundresses because I'm a little cold natured (of course depends on whether I'm having a hot flash or not! lol) Thanks again!

I have a pretty white blouse that I wear with my sun dresses if it is cold. The secret is to find something that will work for all the dresses. Try to stick with similar colors. This works well for shoes too. I have a white pair of sandles that I wear with everything.

So good to hear from so many of you traveling without children. We weren't sure that there would be many of us...it is Disney after all! But Disney caters to the "kid" in all of us.

Just like Kiss-im-mee2 said - I also plan to bring a few sundresses that I will wear either during the day or at dinner - and of course the sweater to keep me warm! A pair of black pants is a great idea with a few blouses, you can never go wrong with that. I think Disney just wants everyone to be presentable at dinner - no shorts & t-shirts.

We will be dressing up for the formal & semi-formal nights. I am actually married to a man that likes to get dressed in a tux or dinner jacket, and of course I love to get dressed up (I'm such a girl princess:). So we really look forward to being able to do that on the cruise.

We have been looking at flights from ATL - BCN...very $$$! We'll keep looking though. No matter what it costs, I'm on that cruise!!! :dance3:

You got a super great deal on your airfare! Wow! I'm so amazed. Did you find the tickets online on your own? Great job.

My DH found the airfare on Travalosity. He's in charge of airfare I plan everything else. He checks Travelosity, Orbitz, Kayak everyday. They all have similar prices but different flight schedules.

Thanks for the info. I have used all of those sites. I wonder if checking daily helped him get the best fare possible. Jennifer

GA yaya, I just looked on Travelosity and Orlando to Barcelona is 657$ with 2 stops. Might be worth it to drive down or take a cheep comutor flight to Orlando. That's on Iberia.
