May 26, 2010--5/26/2010 10 Night Mediterranean

Thanks to everyone for your great flight suggestions. I just turned it over to my hubby and let him deal with it.

We now have our flights booked! :cheer2: Delta from ATL-BCN arriving on May 25 returning on June 5. Looks like we'll have 1 day to play and explore in Barcelona (and also catch up on sleep) before the cruise.

We're staying at the Hilton Barcelona Diagonal Mar when we arrive. Is anyone else staying there?

Oh the memories of the night after Thanksgiving when I get up at midnight to do all my online shopping before fighting the Black Friday crowds!!!
So, just a reminder for all those first timers like me, Booking opens tonight at midnight (eastern time).

I have a few more questions for the experienced cruisers on the Disney Magic: Does it use the same electrical current that we use in the U.S. (wondering about bringing a travel iron)?.....How long does it take to get a dress pressed and cost??.....How many laundry facilities do they have and how busy are they?....Do they have a midnight buffet?

I would appreciate your answers to my questions! Thanks so much! I'm eating, living, and breathing about the cruise nowadays! lol:cool1:

Hi DisneyDeb! Yes, the Magic uses U.S electrical current, however a travel iron is prohibited in the room.

Here is what Disney says about laundry services on the cruise:
QuestionIs there laundry service?AnswerOnboard laundry and dry-cleaning services (with stateroom pickup) are available for a charge. There is also a self-service Guest Laundry Room with coin-operated washers and dryers, along with detergent and ironing equipment. For safety reasons, the provided irons or steamers may be used in the laundry room only; personal irons cannot be brought aboard.I honestly have not used the dry cleaning services so not sure what the turn around is. I hear the prices are pretty good though!

I'm sure someone else will chime in with the other answers!

Thanks Marlower.....that helps as far as wondering whether or not to bring the iron! lol Figure I'll have to get my "formal" dress" pressed, but other than that I will do the washing of clothes. Just wondered if it got so packed with people washing that it wouldn't be worth it.

Thanks for your help!!!

Hi DisneyDeb,

Here are the drycleaning prices as of March 09. FYI, the cost to press something is half the price of the dry cleaning cost. I purposely do not bother ironing any dress shirts that I pack - the first day, I have them pressed, along with my son's suit if it needs it, and anything else that needs pressing. We sent several things out the first day on our last cruise, and they were back the next afternoon in time for formal night. I think our cost was $15 for everything - so worth it to me because time is money! :goodvibes

FYI-Laundry service price list

Services
Regular service: Next day 5 p.m.
Same day service: Add 50 % to dry cleaning surcharge. Picked up before 9 am, returned 5 pm
Express service: Add 100 % express cleaning surcharge. Call for pickup, returned in 3 hours.

Pressing only service is 50% of Dry Cleaning price.

There are laundry facilities on deck 2, deck 6 and 7. They get very crowded on sea days especially. You do not need to worry about quarters. They take your KTTW card. It's $2 per load to wash and $2 to dry and $1 for laundry detergent.

There is a midnight dessert buffet al Lumiere's on one of the nights. And of course Pirate night has a late buffet starting around 9:30pm. There's always 24 hour room service too! :goodvibes Bring a stack of one's for room service tips! :goodvibes

Thanks so much Sinnika! You are a wealth of information! The prices aren't bad at all! I'm amazed! Sounds like if I take my dress to be pressed as soon as I get on the ship (about 12:00), then I should get it back the next afternoon. Not bad at all!

Have a great afternoon and thanks again!

As always, great info Taina. Maybe Disney will do a laundry special (like Carnival did)... $14 to do all the laundry that will fit into a plastic bag which they give you. We took advantage of that quite frequently when we went on the Glory in 2007.

Another question! I don't know why I thought we wouldn't have a dinner on the 26th (I guess since we weren't sailing til 9:30 pm and people would be arriving late), but I looked at the menu schedule and it says "Let the Magic Begin" so I'm taking a stab in the dark and assuming we will be having dinner on the ship that night?!!!!

Thanks again for your knowledgeable answers! :)

You bet! Dinner will be served!

I'm full of questions today! Another one.....Has anyone had their hair & make-up done on the shop before? Can anyone direct me to where I can see how much it costs or can tell me an estimate of how much it would cost. How do I make an appt. beforehand....just go the day we get on ship? I tried looking under spa but didnt' see anything about hairstyling or make-up.

Thanks again everyone! :cool1:

Hey Deb,

Here is a link to some of the spa services on the Magic. You can book these on the ship directly. http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/s...c/fitness-spa/vista-spa-salon/salon-services/

Hi Wrennies! Delta just lowered the fare on the flights we were watching Tuesday so we got them! We are on the direct flight from ATL-BCN leaving at 5:50PM on May 24 - our return flight is probably the same as yours, leaving BCN-JFK at 11:20AM on Jun 5. I so wanted to take the direct from BCN-ATL but it left at something like 9:30AM and that would probably be pushing it.

If you are on the same return flight, we should try to share transportation to the airport!

You may want to check out the new Novotel. Great prices and several of us will be staying there as well.

Don't forget about lunch. You have several lunch options: topsiders on deck 9 which you can also eat outside and also some indoor seating. It is a buffet.
And on Deck 3 forward is Parrot Cay which is also a buffet but you get seated at a table and they bring your drinks for you. Much easier when you have carry on's. Both usually serve till 3 or so I think. Also on Deck 9 is Pluto's and Pinnochio's - you can get pizza, burgers, chicken strips, paninis, salads, fresh fruit, etc. Staterooms are usually ready by 1:30pm. All food places I mentioned should be open as soon as boarding begins, which in 2007 was around noon.
First dining is at 6 or 6:30pm (not sure as I'm dining 2nd), and 2nd dining is at 8:30pm. The sail away party will be around 9 or 9:30pm (no food served at that but waiters will come around with drinks you can purchase). That will be on Deck 9 but you can view it from deck 10 where it is less crowded. So if you have late dining and want to attend the sail away party, you can always choose to eat at topsiders on your schedule.

I had an updo done on formal night. Scheduled it when I boarded. If you want a do on formal night, book right away when you board. Go right to the Vista spa on Deck 9. And make other spa appointments you want while you are there. They always have a sail day special as well as specials of the day, esp on port days. I love the spa! :goodvibes

Hi Momtomari!

I found this hotel deal posted on another thread. I checked it out for 4 but it only showed room availability for 2 people so this may work for you? The rate was very good too!
"The Hotel Eurostars Grand Marina currently has a great rate for the period. Here is the link, looks like a fantastic hotel !!"

http://www.eurostarshotels.com/EN/ho...]=PROMOZOOUK

It's a special deal through a website called TravelZoo":goodvibes
