Hi! We are a family of 4 with two daughters, 9 and 12. I was considering hiring "Your Tour in Italy" for a private driver to go to Pompeii, Sorrento, and along the Amalfi Coast. I wanted to see if anyone else is interested in sharing this tour with our family. I have booked the Disney excursion going to Pompeii and Sorrento but would rather be more flexible. Aldo (the owner) sent me an email with prices and a description of the day if you would like to see the general plan. The price for our family of 4 with everything (including lunch at a local restaurant @ 25 euros per person and Pompeii entrance @ 11 euros per person) is 674 euros. A private guide at pompeii is 130 euros additional and can be set up by them. Tipping is optional but usually 10-20% depending on service. The cost would be 50 euros more with another family of up to 4 for the car but would still be a lot less per family (434 euros including lunch and pompeii entrance). This is a little more than the Disney excursion for 4. They were highly recommended on the message boards and have a 5 star rating on the trip advisor site, plus I was really impressed with Aldo's email.

We went on a tour of the Amalfi Coast a few years ago and it was 6 people, did not include the fee to the entrance of Pompeii or lunch, and it was only 300 Euros. Even with the additional 25 Euros per person for lunch and 11 Euros per person entrance into Pompeii, that should be less than 500 Euros. PLUS, most good tour guides are saying that it will cost between 100 and 110 for a Pompeii guide, not 130. I don't know anything about this guide and I'm sure Trip Advisor's recommendations are good, but the price sounds VERY high to me.

Can I recommend you contact APTours? http://www.aptours.it/ They have gotten EXCELLENT reviews on CruiseCritic, and we almost used them (except my mom sort of bonded with another guide during emails). I bet their price is significantly cheaper. At the end of the day, maybe you will choose to go with this Aldo, but I'd certainly want to do some comparison shopping before going with this guy.

Hi Deadea! They are:

1. 9:00 to 1:30
2. 9:15 to 2:45
3. 9:15 to 1:45

We are doing the Medina and Carthage tour--maybe we will see you there I am a little surprised that none of these had multiple timing choices.

Looking for others to share a private tour for Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Archeological museum in Naples. Price includes all entrance fees with guide for all locations, 2 hour private tour in Pompeii, 2 hour private tour in Herculaneum and private tour at Museum. Break for lunch (lunch not included). Total tour time 9-10 hours. 790 euro for 8 people. Could also do no guides or entrance fees for 360 euro for 8, but the experierience would be so much better with guides.

We are using Driver Guide Services (Ivano) for our tours of Rome and Naples. $600 and $500 Euros responsively for up to 7 people (we are sharing the TraceyJane from UK and her family). I would check with Cruise Critics board for typical gratuity expectations. From what I saw was more like $10 Euro per person for excellent service, but this will be our first time so I want to keep checking.

oh no you are not alone in your flight search. I am really not seeing any differences in airfare since Oct. and the flights I want are starting to fill up since I can see the seating charts...I am encouraging hubby to book this week

Oh please tell her we are thinking of her. Rio has asthma and was in the ER here twice last month (after a year of very minimal problems). It is always scary and stressful

Private tour with Claudio from limo in rome. It will cost about as much as the DCL tour but we can fit in a lot more of what we truly want to see and have just the four of us with a guide instead of being in a big group. I am very nervous about this one though--it is so much money for one day and I sooooo hope the company lives up to its reputation. I have never gone so far from the ship without a DCL excursion for peace of mind.

Day 7 - La Spezia, Italy (Florence, Pisa) - Tuesday, June 1, 2010
We are camping in Tuscany next summer and will see this area at a more lesuirely pace so we will o to the rainforest room and relax this day. We will probably disembarl for a couple of hours and enjoy the port town.

On our own. There is not a lot we want to see here.
