May 26, 2010--5/26/2010 10 Night Mediterranean

Today is the big surgery today. Kaitlyn is scheduled for 1pm. We spent a couple of hours at her high school yesterday visiting her teachers and getting assignments and she took one of her exams. She is doing some of her work now to keep ahead and try to keep her mind off of the fact that she is hungry. She's an early riser and always has breakfast as soon as she gets up, so nothing to eat or drink till after the surgery is going to be tough!
Last night we watched our nightly re-runs of Gray's Anatomy - she's a bigger fan than I and wants to be a surgeon herself. She asked lots of very interesting questions, like "will I have that tube in my mouth", and :"will my throat be sore after". She has never had an IV or even blood drawn for that matter, so this is all very thought provoking to her. She also asked "what's the worst that could happen, like, could the doctor accidently trip while he was doing the surgery and cut off my thumb?" and I told her, no, the nurses would make sure that didn't happen!" :thumbsup2 Even though DH and I have been in the medical field for 45 years combined, everyone is right, nothing prepares you to go thru it when it is your child.
Thank you all for your prayers and concerns. :grouphug: I'll write with an update this evening. :flower3:

We will most definitely be keeping you and your family in our thoughts a prayers today. May she make a quick recovery!!

We will be thinking of you today:flower3:..when our middle son was a surgical patient at Denver Children's, they allowed one parent to "gown-up" and go into the operating room each time to watch him fall asleep under the anesthesia..they also called us in the waiting room every so often so we would have an update..maybe they will accommodate you in this way:)

I'm so impressed with Kaitlyn, from everything you've told us. It sucks when they make kids wait so long and they can't eat leading up to the surgery. As I've told you, been there, done that!

BTW, Jocelyn and I watch "Grey's Anatomy" too. She really loves it. We'll have to introduce them on the ship.

Keep us all posted. I know everything will be just fine!

We are in for the Fish Extenders. I can't locate the link to the person who makes and sells them. Does anyone know how I can order mine as we are so excited about doing this.

Thanks everyone for your prayers! Kaitlyn's surgery went very well. She now has 6 screws in her left hand. The surgeon said one of the bones was pretty shattered but everything looks good now and we are so grateful! Once Kaitlyn woke up after the hour drive home, she was back to her old self and said her IV site was more bothersome than her hand that had surgery. She's even contemplating school tomorrow but I want her to wait till at least Friday before she goes back.

Thanks again for all the well wishes from everyone! :grouphug:

Oh I am so glad everything went well for Kaitlyn. We were thinking about her last night. I laughed about the no eating part. Rio had surgery about four years ago and not being able to eat breakfast was his one big complaint. He had no fear of the actual surgery--he was just mad he could not eat:rotfl2: It sounds like Kaitlyn is much the same way. I am so happy to wake up and see this update that she is doing well and even feels up to school (but I think it is a good call to keep her home anyway):cheer2:

Glad to hear surgery went well. What a great attitude Kaitlyn has!

Wow! That is alot of surgery for a little girl. Glad it went well!!

Is anyone flying on Iberia and American Airlines to Barcelona?? Iberia's prices are dropping and I am considering their flights (they combine with AA).

Also, glad Sinnika's daughter came thru surgery without any problems!

On some of the other cruise meet threads I have been on we ask a Question of the week everyweek and everyone pipes up with their answers. It is just a light hearted way to get us all talking about who We are and getting to know one another instead of just talking logistics all the time. Is anyone up for giving it a try? If so, please answer this simple starter question:

Who is your favourite Disney Character?

Me--Mary Poppins
Dave--MIlo Thatch (from Atlantis)
Marika--Belle
Rio--it varies but currently he is saying any of the fab 5 or Peter Pan (unless he can count Frankie Defortunato from Twice Charmed in which case that wins hands down--he thinks he is going to play that role someday;))

colmom,
we're flying Iberia from TX connecting in Madrid to Barcelona. When we bought out tickets back in early January, the prices were 580 RT. the key is to just keep checking everyday. It's a PITA but when you hit that lucky day, you'll be glad you did. Think of the extra $$ you'll have for other "purchases" :rotfl:

Tania,
glad everything turned out well for your family.

Hi,
I tried to send a photo for our roll call listing. My computer is not set up in a way that I can just click on the email address (or "click here" as the case may be) and get into email. I have to cut and paste the address into my email program our type it out. All I can find on the website is the "click here" option. Can someone please PM me the actual address so I can get our photo in?
Thanks:goodvibes
