May 26, 2007 (5/26/07) "First Magical Med Cruise!!" (The M&M's!)

I have been thinking over the last few weeks about a treasure hunt for my kids. It's been 3 years since our last DCL, so I can't remember some good locations to set up notes or clues. I wanted to make it kid friendly and do it on Pirate night so they can hunt for the pirate treasure. I had no idea that there would be an adult one when I started to cook up this idea. I don't want to infringe on what is going on with the adult adventure.

So, if anyone has suggestions, please share them with me. Anything cleaver, rhyming, or good locations would be great. If we want to compile it and share it with each other, that would be great. Here's a paper I wanted to write it on.

Thanks!

Lori

Lori,

We did a hunt one time for work. Since we couldn't really guarantee that things would stay, we used a multiple choice approach and fixed landmarks. They would go to a certain spot and based on a feature, the sheet would tell them where to go next. Like, if the plaque on the fountain is gold, go to the ice cream stand and answer question #7. If the plaque on the fountain is silver, go to the pizza stand and answer question #9. We did map out all possibilities - but only one lead to the "treasure".

Another thing you might try is having one of the adults sit in a chair somewhere and provide one of the clues.

I'm sure your kids will have a great time!

Sue

O.K. Peter, I know you lurk here so.....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PETER!(belated)
We toasted you at dinner last night. You weren't forgotten.

8 more work days and school days!YEA!:cheer2:
If any assistance is needed with the kids scavenger hunt I would be happy to help!

My daughter, Lauren(10) collects postcards. Would anyone like to trade with her? I will be bringing some with us and thought maybe if anyone was interested we could use fish mail and maybe write the cabin numbers on them and first names so that we know who we recieved them from. Her goal is to eventually have at least one from every state.

Have a great day everyone and think happy cruise thoughts!!:hippie:

I could sit in a chair... :rotfl:

I was diligently calling my credit card companies this morning to inform them of my upcoming Europe trip and trying to find out what the fees were for exchange rate conversions.

Instead, I got a bad surprise. My credit card number has been hijacked! I have one of those Disney cards (have to get points!). When I called they directed me to the fraud department and told me about all these weird charges for "computer equipment". HUH????? So now I have to close out the account, fix ALL of my direct debits (and there are TONS), get a new card, activiate it, etc. all before I leave. What a hassle! This is the only credit card I really use. I have everything from my homeowner's insurance to my electric bill charging against that card to get my points.

All I can say is THANK GOODNESS I found out today. I can only imagine what it would be like if I hadn't found out until I was in Europe.

What a bad surprise, Sue, but thank goodness you found out before the trip. But be very careful, lots of our ports are bad with pickpockets.

Happy to bring one from Texas (Johnson Space Center to be exact).

Announcing the First Magical Med Cruise Scavenger Hunt!!!

:cheer2: :sail: :cheer2:

On a previous cruise, another DISboarder made a photo scavenger hunt for the group, and I thought it was loads of fun. Really forced me to explore some parts of the ship I'd never been to before. So, on our last cruise, I took a bunch of pictures so that I could make one for this cruise. And even better, the winner will have a $25 Disney Gift Card delivered to their stateroom!

1) Please print out the Scavenger Hunt Form before you leave home. It's 4 pages long (3 pages of photos and questions with a final answer sheet). I know some people are sailing on the Repo Cruise and will already be underway, so I will bring a few extra copies. But hopefully, you should be able to print a copy onboard. Just leave a note at our room (8028) if you're in desperate need of a copy. Also, the photos have all been changed to black & white so that someone with a color printer won't have an advantage.

2) Answer sheets must be turned in no later than Sunday, June 3 to room 8028. Be sure to include your name and room number. If there is a tie (and I tried to include enough questions so that it's less likely), the winner will be randomly selected from amongst the top-scoring entries. NOTE - You only need to turn in the final sheet with your answers.

3) All questions are worth one point unless otherwise indicated. For the images, be as specific as possible when describing the location. If it's not clear, your answer may not be accepted.

4) For #32, I took this photo on our cruise in December when this advertisement for the Med cruises was onboard. It's possible that the ad is no longer there. I'll check, and if that's true, I won't award any points for this question. So, even if you know where the ad used to be, you won't receive any points because that wouldn't be fair to others who didn't have the chance to see it on an earlier cruise.

5) You may use any and all resources onboard, except for other DISboarders competing in the Scavenger Hunt.

6) I'm not going to limit this to one entry per stateroom. I realize that there may be several people in a room who want to compete. However, it's not fair for 5 people to work together and then turn in 5 answer sheets. If you work together as a group (whether it's 2 people, 5 people, or 10 people), please just submit one answer sheet for your group. Otherwise, you'd have an advantage over an individual who completes it on their own. And since there's no way to enforce that, you're on your honor to play fair and follow the rules.

7) If you are on the Repo Cruise, you're also on your honor not to start playing until the First Med Cruise begins. Those extra two weeks would be an unfair advantage.

8) If you have any questions about the contest, please contact me (by PM or email at jenstamey@alumni.virginia.edu).

This information has also been posted to the website at http://mysite.verizon.net/nejthelion/onboard.htm.

Happy Hunting!!

I just had this same problem with my Disney Card at the end of April. I had a charge for $100+ to some online book company called Abebooks.com in British Columbia. Luckliy I check online frequently and caught it. My new card arrived in about 1.5-2 weeks.

Also note when you get a new Disney Credit Card they also cancel your Dinsey Rewards Card and issue a new one too with a new number. This took about 2-2.5 weeks to arrive.
