May 25, 2012 - Magical 8-night cruise - NYC to the Bahamas!

Hello Everyone,

We booked for the May 25 cruise out of NY, This will be out second cruise. Our first one was in 11/09 on the Wonder. We had a really great experience. We originally were going to go on the Dream this year, but when I found out that Magic would be leaving from NY,I had to change it.So we opted to do Disney World this year instead. It will be myself, DH, DS 16, and DS 13. The boys are really excited about being at sea for 4 days. They really enjoyed the clubs. I am excited about the whole trip.:woohoo:

I would like do the FE exchange. I did this on the previous cruise. It was fun to see what surprises we would wake up or come back to. Also, I am not sure if I missed it on the board. Will there be a door magnet exchange?

Thanks,
Stacey

Welcome aboard Stacey...please PM me the following information:
Dis name
Real world name
cabin number
who is sailing with you (ages for kids if willing please)
any allergies or restrictions
I will post a link to a google doc in early August (i am doing it monthly until we are a little closer)

I have a running poll (not a "real" poll) asking:
1: how many days before we sail should we close the FE list?
2: if a large number of people are involved should we break the list into groups, and if so, how many cabins in a group?

If you search for my posts you can find the link to the google doc.

again - welcome aboard!!!

where in NJ are you from?

Hello

I am from South Jersey, about 40 minutes from Atlantic City.

I vote for 30 days. I also vote for no more then 20 cabins in each group.

I believe I read someone was looking for ideas for the FE. Here is list of some of the things we gave out: stuff for pirate night (light up rings, necklaces, tattoos and eye patches for the kids), magnets and bookmarkers with cruise date, Disney character pens and stickers, treat bags , travel size things people might need while out on excursions suntan lotion, hand sanitizer, etc.
Some things we received: a container to protect your belongs while in the water with cruise date, candy, pens, notepads, craft items people made ( magnets, photo album, etc) travel size items, pocket games for the kids, jewelry, seashells, high lighter pens with cruise date, frisbees, and beach balls.
Also , I think I read someone asking about the FE. I brought ours off of ebay. I am not to good at sewing :) The seller customized ours and it turned out very nice.

Happy Wednesday all!!!! :cheer2::cheer2:
Been a very busy week. Saturday was my birthday :flower3: DH took me to Red Lobster which sadly is the only seafood resturant in our whole city. Was nice had Walts Fried Shrimp and 1 pound of Snow Crab Legs :woohoo::woohoo:

Monday had Jury Duty which I don't mind have actually served on 3 other trials :cool2: but this one was VERY tough :sad2: the defendant took a plea deal during lunch yesterday so I only served 2 days... I felt so bad...she made a STUPID mistake and now her life is over. She went out partying, drank to much...decided she was fine to drive  entered the freeway going the WRONG direction :scared1: smashed into a mini van and instantly killed the Mom/Dad/little brother :littleangel: and severely injured the 3 year old little girl :sad1::sad1::sad1: The little girl made it  and is living with her grandparents. Well to make a long story short she was on trial for MANY, MANY charges, yesterday at lunch took a plea deal and ended the trial. The plea deal was 2 counts of 2nd degree murder. She will serve 15-life for each count. She is only 23 years old. Why can't our young folks learn :sad2::sad2: now two families are destroyed. I have barely slept in 3 days..and basically can't stop crying. :sad1:

DH was teasing me...He has ALWAYS wanted to serve as a jury member on a tiral, but has never been picked..and this was my second "big" trial I have been on. The other two were on civil trials...just basically listening to people whine  Told him after yesterday he can take my place anytime. :guilty:

1. 30 days

2. One group. If people choose to give FE gifts to a limited number, that should be an individual choice. Many of us like to do FE gifts for everyone. Alex

Hi Stacey! :wave2:

I'm a Jersey Girl, too! Grew up in Sayreville (went to high school with John Bongiovi, now known as Jon Bon Jovi. LOL), and then lived in Toms River for several years before we loved to Massachusetts 14 years ago. I still go to NJ a lot to see my family. :grouphug:

All of those items sound like great FE gifts. I just hope that everyone likes the thing that I'm making. :upsidedow

That really is such a sad story, for all involved. :( I hope that you're feeling a little better now. :flower3: I've been called to show up for jury duty a couple of times, but have never been on a jury.

This makes sense. For those who can't or don't want to provide a gift, for example, 50 cabins or people, then we can have 2 lists/groups. But for those who want to and are able to provide for all, then they can participate in both lists/groups. Does that sound good to everyone???

Got it, See the post I quoted below...would this work for you? It does for me.

Hi Everyone,

Just checking back in . We are sailing to Alaska on DCL next month, so I've been focusing on that trip, but haven't forgotten this group! :lovestruc

Sent a PM for the FE , thanks for arranging that, padalyn. I've done it before and it can be a lot of work so thank you for taking it on! :thumbsup2

We are trying to convince our friends who live on Long Island to join us on the cruise. We met them on a DCL Eastern a few years ago, and have become great friends ever since. The time of year doesn't really work for them, but we're hoping that they can work it out, especially since the ship is sailing from "home" for them.

Hope everyone is having a great summer.
Karen

Hi Karen!

I hope that you have a great time on the Alaska cruise!! I've seen pictures and the scenery is gorgeous. Can you give us a mini review when you get back?? I've considered going on an Alaskan cruise but I'm not crazy about the cold weather :cold: Maybe it's not as cold as I think it would be??? LOL :confused3

From what I've read August seems to be the best month (weather-wise) to cruise Alaska. The temps in the ports will most likely be high 60's but it will probably be rainy most days (or at least showers). So - we're hoping it wont be a cold trip! I'll let you know! ;)

:yay::yay::yay:Another Week Down:yay::yay::yay:

Happy Monday all :thumbsup2 Today is my Jennahs 15th birthday :bday: she is getting so grown up  she even planed her whole party. There is a nightclub in Sacramento that during the summer every Monday from 5-9 has a teen only dance floor. party: She invited her WHOLE entire freshman class to shake their bootys :dancer: :rotfl: She says it is just getting her ready for the cruise :dogdance:

Early this morning I dropped my Macy off at church. Her junior high class is going on their yearly mission trip. This year they are driving :drive: down to San Diego to do a weeks worth of various community service projects. :dance3: i.e. homeless shelters, childrens homes, women's shelters, emergency food banks, one day they are cleaing the beach, etc... The week ends with them stopping in Los Angeles for 6 hours to visit MICKEY ::MickeyMo::MinnieMopluto::donald::goofy::tink: the drive takes about 10 hours but the kids are super pumped so they don't care :cheer2::dance3:

DH left for a week long business trip to New York and will be home on Saturday, so by the time my family is all back together another week will be gone..which means we are 7 days closer to going :jumping1: Hope you all have a great week. Big :grouphug:

Welcome Stacey! Don't forget for everyone to check in on facebook.

With the FE groups, I thought that we still would make things for everyone, but that they would be in smaller groups on separate days so that I am not running to 50 rooms in one day:confused3:confused3 I am too out of shape for that!!!:rotfl::rotfl: I've never done this before, so I have no idea!!

A door magnet exchange!???? Say it ain't so??? Oh boy, John already thinks I am crazy...

On a side note, we are very busy in Philly. I am teaching summer school:eek::eek: Getting ready to go to the Jersey Shore to Avalon to relax. We have a house there, it needs to hold me over until May. I would love to do the Atlantis thing, but need to find a cheaper way!

Just dropping by to say Hello! Ten more months to go. :woohoo: Has anyone started their gifts for the FE? I think I am going to start now. I figured September coming fast enough and all the craziness of the holiday seasons. I get a head start.:)

Hi everyone!!! :sunny:

Only 43 weeks to go!!!
:cool2: :boat: :sail: :sunny:

I hope everyone is well. For the most part, we are doing fine over here in our house. :goodvibes Went to Boston yesterday with DH to see his diabetes specialist, then we made the most of the gorgeous weather and walked around the North End and Long Wharf and went to dinner at a cute Italian restaurant. It was fun feeling like we were tourists on vacation for a few hours.

Stacey, I did start working on a prototype for the FE gifts that I want to make, but then DH had a good idea for something else (or, something in addition to), so I don't know yet what the final gift is going to be. I try to think of what I would like or find cute or useful, and then go from there. :upsidedow

Just me and my boy are going.

:scared1::scared1: Wow I would have thought that Disney would have found more family friendly, budget friendly rooms. I CAN NOT justify spending over $1000 per night for the two rooms that we need. 1 night before and 3 after the cruise would be more then one of our verdanah cabins. Thats insane :headache: Guess I will keep looking on my own...was really putting a lot of hope on Disney coming through :sad2:

I was hoping the same thing, that they'd find nice but more affordable hotels in the city. :confused3

So I emailed my TA to book a room for us at the Marriott because the pricing she gave me was much better than what the web site shows... Well, it turns out that since DS and his DGF are booked in their own cabin, DCL will not let us share a hotel room, even though the room itself sleeps 4 people. :headache:

So.....after discussing it last night with DH, he said we might as well book the room ourselves, since the price for 4 of us in 1 room is about $200. less than booking 2 rooms through DCL. I really can't believe that DCL won't allow family members cruising in separate cabins to share a hotel room even when the hotel room sleeps that many people.

My TA said that DCL will still allow us to purchase transfers from the hotel to the port, if we want, even if we don't book the hotel through them.

So I just booked the room myself, and they only required a credit card to hold the room, didn't have to pay for it, AND there is no charge at all if we cancel up until the day before! I figured I might as well book it now, since there's nothing to lose. If our plans change in the meantime, I can just cancel it. But we want to take the train to Penn Station, and the hotel and the port are both nearby, so this is the most convenient for us, and will allow us to enjoy the afternoon/night before, in the city. After the cruise, we'll get a taxi right to Penn Station and go home that day. At the train ride will be fairly relaxing.
