May 24, 2014 Alaskan 9 night Wonder

Sorry we've been a little quiet. I had appendicitis And an appendectomy on Friday. Thankfully it didn't rupture and I was out of the hospital Saturday. As we checked in to the hospital Friday afternoon, the first words out of my mouth we "at least we weren't on a cruise when this happened!" After I was out of surgery and recovering the first thing we looked up was how long I'd have to wait before traveling as we're heading to Aulani on Christmas--luckily we were told I'd only have to wait 5-10 days before I can travel!

Glad you're recovering well and it won't affect your trip! :goodvibes

While out Christmas shopping today, I found packs of 10 pair of handwarmers at Bed Bath and Beyond. They were $8.99 a pack and I don't know if that is a good price or not, but I thought I would have to order them online and pay shipping, so I went ahead and picked them while I was there.

These seem to have come a long way since the ones you used to have to boil--I like the simple air activation and that they last for 7 hours.

The fact that I bought these probably means the weather will be nice and warm while we are there, isn't that the way it works ? confused3

Hand warmers?! It'll be anywhere from a balmy 35 to sweltering 75 on our cruise. It's 11 degrees as I write this. Off to go get our Christmas tree.

To some of us that is freezing wheather ;)

Although, the 75 sounds nice and reassuring. I won't turn into an ice cube. :upsidedow

Well, I will be a winner either way - either it's cold and I am prepared or its warm and I will still be a happy camper.

I used to be comfortable with the cold, lived near the Upper Peninsula in Michigan years ago, but I have been down South too long and my blood has really thinned out--below 50 is cold to me.

Sweet between me buying waterproof boots for DS and I and your hand warmers we are making sure the weather will be great! I also bought a new coat for the winter (designed for minus 45 degrees F!) so we are more than golden. Anyone else want to contribute to our "evil weather plan" please feel free!!

We're nice and toasty right now--between -6 and 4 degrees here in anchorage (depending on where you are in the city) and we got about 2 feet of snow over the weekend. In Sitka on the 4th of July last year, it was about 50ish and rain.

Hi Everyone!
Hope you all enjoying the holidays!
From what I remember, we had really nice weather in May the last time we went. You'll need jackets and gloves on some days but no parkas required!:)
Our weather here is actually a bit too warm for this time of year and would like it colder.
We will be renewing our passports in the next two weeks and soon after that will be able to book shore excursions. Yea!
Will check back in before Christmas.

PS~ happy to see our names on the roll call! It seems so official!:cool1:

Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas :)

We will reveal tomorrow:yay:. I'll post a Facebook link, if I can manage that much tech ;)

On a side note: with highs in the low 60's, I'm ready for a parka:upsidedow But I got my handwarmers:goodvibes

Merry Christmas

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas! Stay safe and warm, and have a wonderful time with your families!

Somehow I missed people's holiday wishes here. Hope you guys had a wonderful Christmas and if you made reveals would love to hear how they went! I had to work til 6pm Christmas Eve but it was enough time to let my son open presents before bed. Santa came and I had to put together a telescope! Then we got up early so I could see his face when he came downstairs and watch him open gifts from Santa before I had to go back to work at 8am Christmas Day :( thankfully we only work a short shift if it is our holiday so I was out by 11am and home to finish celebrating. No reveal here but now I'm focused completely on Alaska! 148 days til we leave and 149 days til we sail! I can't wait....when will they post those gosh darn Sitka excursions!!!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. We are so looking forward to the New Year and our upcoming cruises. Our daughter will be joining us on this cruise. I have updated our information on the roll call and FE. 140 days to go!:wizard::wizard::wizard:

We've been having a strange winter here in NH. We've been negative 21 and up to 50s and 60s! We've had a ton of snow and then we get a ton of rain. Tonight we are supposed to get about 6 inches of snow. I will believe it when I see it.

Wait a sec, 140? Are you leaving early? Are you on the repo or going early? I have 146 til the boat leaves Vancouver according to my phone app haha.

Oops, we are on the repo from San Diego. Sorry, bet you were excited to see the 140!

Hi All,

I am a newbie to this board but not to the DCL. We have done Alaska before but honestly, can you ever get too much Alaska? I think not.

I will be traveling with my husband of 20 years and our 3 boys (16, 14, 11) and one girl (7)

We always wondered about those things hanging from the fish... I can't wait to get started designing mine.

I can't wait to get to make some cruising friends!

Does anyone have any camera recommendations? I obviously want to get something better than our iphones but I don't want to break the bank and get anything too fancy since we won't use it much outside of this trip.
