May 23, 2009 (5/23/09) E. Caribbean w/Tortola

Hey Guys, I'm a little scared:scared1: to ask this, but we do not plan to have passports for our three girls (12, 14, and 16). According to the folks at DCL resv. the date was moved forward to June 1st to require them and we get off the ship on May 30th. Hubby and I have them from 2005, but I chose not to spend the money. Am I crazy? Will I regret this? What is everybody else doing? :confused3 Thanks, Leigh

We went back and forth on this ourselves. We eventually decided to go ahead and get them for all 3 of us, since we think we will use them in the next few years for other travel. Plus, dh said better safe than sorry.

I don't know what to tell you, since I let dh make our final decision. Like Tracy said, the only problem would be if you needed to fly home for some reason. Good luck making your decision. (passports are taking anywhere from 3-7 weeks...that's what is being reported on the boards...ours took about 3 weeks)

I had posted previously and received a reply from WiscBill and also TripodJW who encouraged me to sign on. Looking forward to the trip. What excursions should I not miss? I am traveling with my Dad and my son (age 10). Thanks !

Glad you could join us

:welcome: :welcome:

Thanks Tracy! One more question. For the online check-in, should I mark credit card or cash? We do plan on putting a cc down, just not sure which one yet.

I would say cash just to be able to print out the contract, though you can say CC and change which one at the port. We had to do that because the CC we put down was closed for breach of security the day before we left last time.

Thanks Tracy!!

I've lost track of our countdown...LOL I think we have 35 days till the cruise!!! I still have moments when I feel like "are we really going on this cruise?" I guess I'll believe it when we see the ship coming over that bridge!:cool1:

I think that, along with my first step onboard, is my FAVORITE part!!!

Twice now I have put down one credit card on the online form and then had them change it at port. No big deal.

I went to our reservation and double-checked... no magical upgrade!!

Good thing I went there, though....I forgot about printing out our contract to sign.

I checked on-line too and no upgrades for us either. I have a SPH room so not sure if I would take an upgrade unless I could get the verandah.
It would have been nice to see it though!

Well, just got back from shopping and I picked up the rest of the FE gifts for the kiddies/teens. Hope they will like it.....

Very happy that we'll be on the ship in 35 days :woohoo:! Nice weather, drink of the day, Castaway Cay....but I still need to pack and stop day dreaming.HAHA

I went online and finished the check-in process!! I've got our contract all printed out and signed (just waiting for dh to get home from work to sign). Gonna get the luggage out tonight and start packing some of the things tomorrow!! Going to put our paperwork and stuff in my carry-on bag so I know where it all is! :woohoo:

well we are still going with birth cert. and photo ID's we didn't see the need to spend more money on the passport or card yet. getting the info from the gov. site we should be fine...and it is just me and the wife on this cruise ....:cool1:

The funny thing about taking a passport.....I never take mine off the ship. I leave it in the safe. So if I missed the ship, I guess I'd be out of luck anyway.

But since you have one the local consulate would be able to get you a replacement quicker so you could get home.

Tracy...here's a question....do we have to get up and do the Customs thing in St Thomas??

We all have passports, we always travel out of the county with them even on a cruise as in case of an emaergency you would need it to fly home.

My bet is yes. It wasn't that bad last time, it went very quick. I heard that they are trying to do things different so we won't have to do this anymore. We go to Tortola first so we will likely have to go through customs in St. Thomas.
