May 23, 2009 (5/23/09) E. Caribbean w/Tortola

I think I mentioned that after we signed dh back up for the cruise, our excursion was sold out, so he can't join us on that.

It's okay, he'll still be onboard, but if anyone cancels the Doubloon Sail and Snorkel, or if anyone notices an opening, would you mind posting here and saying so?

Thanks for the help!:)

I can't believe the cruise is so close now -

Wish I had the time to particpate with the FE exchange but I've been working 60 hours a week and DH 72 + hours a week (no, that's not a typo)since the beginning of March (long story short - we work at a power plant -it was refueling time!) I just went back to my normal 9 hour days this week and hopefully DH will go back to his sometime next week (we work 9 hour days and get to take every other Friday off - yeah!)

Need to get my home and surroundings back in to shape, spring clean, get ready for the cruise and find some time to relax in between. Boy, when this cruise comes around we are going to be SOOOOOO ready!

Anyway, please let me know if we are having a meet and greet onboard or in the terminal, I would love to get the chance to meet everyone !

Hey all! Hope everyone had a great weekend. DH just got home from a deployment! We are ready to go on this cruise! Thank you to Stacey and Heather for getting us added and updating the FE lists. Very helpful! Wow, only 45 days! I can't wait!!! We still have to finish all the FE things, should be lots of fun!

Where in florida are you?

And you are so lucky to live in FWB, that's our home town! DH and I both graduated from FWBHS...in fact my 30th reunion (gulp!) is this fall (Homecoming). I grew up on Okaloosa Island, DH lived in Destin. I have no more family ties to the area and I sure so miss it. Hopefully, I'll get to make the reunion..

That is too funny, my kids are FWBHS grads. I work in Destin. We love it here, do miss the fall, and the big city for somethings but not enough to go back up north.

I know what you mean...I miss it terribly - the last time we were there was in Apr. 06. Destin has grown so much...I remember when it was just a little bitty fishing town and when there used to be NOTHING along the road from Destin to Sandestin. While my Dad wasn't AF, he was always working with them (worked on smart bombs dropped by F-4's,15's,etc.) and hence we moved every 4-6 years to a new base (lived in Germany and Israel too!) Eglin was definitely our favorite!

Poppins, my dad was AF also. We were in Germany, when I was young, for 5 years.

My dh hasn't been lucky enough to be stationed at Eglin, but we have accompanied him on a TDY there. I would love to live there!

Now that our FE list has closed, I ordered the things for our gifts! So excited. :yay:

I think I'm going to ship them, along with our FE, our snorkeling stuff, our over-the-door shoe holder, etc to the port. We won't need that stuff at WDW and something tells me we're going to have PLENTY of luggage for a week at the Poly followed by the cruise!

Where were you stationed in Germany? We were in Bitburg for four years, (1970-72, went to Israel for 1973 and then back to Bitburg from 1974-1975).

Both DH and I are ex-Navy (DH retired after 20, I only did 5). I was lucky enough to be stationed at Pearl Harbor and Sardinia, Italy. The longest I have ever stayed in one place for my entire life has been 5.5 years!!

Wow, you have had some awesome assignments!!

We were in Hessich Olendorf and Ramstein from 76-81. My Dad moved every 2-4 years. The longest I've been in one place is 4 years. My dh and I, however, have moved much more frequently, we've moved 7 out of the last 8 summers. So for dd11 and ds14, their longest time in one place has been two years. :scared1:

Dh is Air Force, but we're in Newport for a year (of course ) where he's working with the Navy.:)

Your welcome!

I'm glad to hear your DH is home!!:cool1:

I worked ALOT yesterday and have most of my FE gifts done!! Woo Hoo!!! Just finishing up with my door magnets as well.

44 days to go!! 42 until we are on VACATION!! And as DS likes to remind me..29 school days to go!! LOL

Check at Shore Excursions when you get onboard. They may be able to fit one more in....especially considering the circumstances.

Thanks Stacey! I didn't know if they had any flexibility, so that's a great idea. Right now, we've signed him up to do a tour with his parents. I wonder if it will hurt our odds, if we have to remove him from an excursion AND add him to an excursion.

Maybe we should take him off the other?

Leave him on the one for now. If they can fit him onto your excursion, they'll take him off the other one then. You'll be able to explain it to them when you talk to Shore Excursions in person.

The first group to Tortola leaves in 2 weeks. We'll have to see if they do a "Live" report, or keep an eye on their Meets thread to see how it goes.
:thumbsup2

We were at Sembach from 1986-1990. Would have lovrd to go back, but it's very nice here.

You would not believe the traffic right now. It's 26 miles from house to office, took me 90 minutes to get from Sandestin to Mary Esther!

We are hoping to do the ABD trip to Germany next year, DH has never been and I know he would absolutely love it!:goodvibes

Great, thanks!!

I can't wait for Tortola reports!! I'm really rethinking my plans for Tortola right now, so I would love some reviews!

I have a friend going on that cruise!!! She almost went on our cruise, couldn't get main dining and booked the other cruise before she realized we were going on the May 23rd cruise. Anyways...she says she'll report back with info about Tortola and pictures as well!!! (I know her from another board). I can't wait to see all the reports!!:surfweb:
