May 23, 2009 (5/23/09) E. Caribbean w/Tortola

OMGosh it has been months since I posted.

I see everyone has been hectically posting on this thread and there are tons of pages which I will just skip:thumbsup2

We got back from our 2 weeks onboard the Ruby Princess so feeling bad that they kicked us off and need to look forward to this one to keep us going.

Hope you all had a happy thanksgiving.

Julia

Hey Julia! Glad to see you posting!!

Ang, I've never seen a movie premier on the ship. But it should be fun!!!!:thumbsup2

We leave tomorrow for Disney and our stay at AKV!!!! DS still doesn't know that we are staying there...he thinks we are staying at Pop Century again!:hippie: We plan to tell him once we actually walk into AKV! We've never taken the Magical Express before, so we'll tell him we have to stop at AKL first before pop. We'll just say lets go in and look around!!

I can't wait for MVMCP on Friday!!:santa: :cool1:

We'll be back on Sunday, and I"m sure I'll type up some kind of trip report with pictures on my web page.

Hey Heather! Have a blast at WDW!!!

Did y'all get snow earlier this week? We got flurries on Monday but it wasn't cold enough for it to stick.

Ang

Heather, how fun!!! Can't wait to hear how the surprise goes!!

Angie, I don't know where they'd show the movie. :confused3 My guess would be the theater, and not the Dumbotron.

Even though it didn't really feel like Thanksgiving, we had a lot, lot, lot of fun in Las Vegas. It was just so nice to be with friends we don't get to see very often!

Black Friday shopping there was just about as miserable as it seemed to be everywhere. I've never, ever gone shopping on Black Friday, so it was quite the experience for me. No pressure, though, since I didn't need to buy anything. I was just along for the ride.

No snow here! Just north of us it snowed! They kept saying we'd get some flurries here, but all we got was rain and a bit of sleet!

Stace..I"m glad you had fun in Vegas! I've only gone shopping on black friday a few times...and I won't be going again! Sometimes I'll go to walmart later that night...and the stores are EMPTY! Plus some of the specials are still on!!

Have a wonderful trip to WDW, Heather! You certainly deserve it! Let us know DS's reaction when he finds out where you're really staying.

I'm not sure if they would show the movie premier on the ship - not sure how they would handle so many wanting to see it. We have seen first run movies while on DCL but not the week it came out.

Have a fun time in Disney:yay:

We've been to quite a few movie premieres on DCL including the 3rd POC movie. They will screen it in the big theatre instead of having a live show that night. During the 2 main show times they usually have a red carpet presentation sort of like the Oscars. As you are waiting in the theatre you can watch everyone come in. Once the movie premieres, they usually show it several times again depending on the length of your cruise. For Pirates they had 3 showings in the main theatre (one started at around midnight) and then additional showings in the smaller theatre on other days. There is usually plenty of opportunity to see it.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Thanks for that info...I really wasn't sure!

That sounds cool and I never thought about them showing it in the large theatre cause we have only seen movies in the movie theatre which is not huge. Sounds like they have a plan - anyone know what movie it is?

I believe they are talking about the new Pixar movie, Up, which is due to premier on May 29th.

Thanks for the info. Guess we won't have that many opportunities to see it since the 29th is Friday and that will be our Castaway Cay day.

Yep. That's the one.

It's possible they might show it at 12:01am Friday. I think they did that with both The Prestige and The Village. Those 2 did not premiere in the big theatre because they weren't considered "family" type movies. Not sure what they would do with a Pixar film. Sometimes if a movie opens on a Friday to the general public, Disney will have a special premiere the Wednesday before. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Also, it may not appear on the weekly movie schedule as DCL likes to make "surprise" announcements the day before to make it even more special.

That's what I was thinking/hoping.

Not sure where everybody is on the ship, but i was just looking Around on the DCL site and the cat 12 is available for this cruise ....

If we droped down to the 12 from 11 we would save $350...:goodvibes

Heather, Scott and Lynn Canceled this cruise, so they can be removed from the roster..

Hello, my name is Kathryn and I am a Disney Magic addict.

That says it all. We are booked on the 5/23 cruise, but probably won't be the most social of families this time as it is booked for my daughter's high school graduation. The gift she wants is a cruise for herself and a few friends...so I'll be "Mama chaperone." OK, we promise....they are really good kids (or they wouldn't be sailing!), and we promise not to bother anyone.

We've sailed on the Magic 17 times....but of course, never to Tortola.

If anyone hasn't checked the cruise line forum, there is a great post linking to other cruise lines' excursions on Tortola. DCL hasn't released their's yet, but you know they will be similar or identical to what the other lines offer.

Nice to meet all of you....I'll catch up reading the back pages when I have time.

Welcome, Kathryn! Don't worry - aside from some definite fish extender participation (if others are interested) we probably won't be terribly social either - the cruise will be the second half of our honeymoon! We're working now on planning the first half - six nights at the Poly. :)

Wow, this is an active board....86 pages so far. Lots of familiar names from previous cruises! That's always fun. I've started reading, but this will take days.
