MAY 2015 Car Rentals

I haven't had time to read this entire thread yet, or to really spend time looking around online for codes, etc. But using the costco and visa (I think it was visa) codes I saw on page 8 of this thread I was able to get a 7 passenger minivan from May 1-9 for a total of $219.42 through Alamo. That's a week, an extra day, and an extra 3 hrs. That actually seemed like a pretty good total for a minivan to me, but I don't have much experience with minivans. Until our last trip we rented cars, but we tried the minivan and loved it. Does that sound like a good deal, or should I put in the time (usually at least a few hours :crazy2: ) looking around for something better? Honestly, it won't be worth it to just save a few bucks, but if it would be significant I will look around. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for tips. I had a coupon code in addition to Contract Id. It's the coupons that are not working the contract Id works fine.

$219 for a minivan for a week+1 day+3 hours is a great rate!! Of course keep looking - you never know if something cheaper may come along.
We are flying into Tampa and best price on a minivan (1 week+1 day) so far is Alamo for $262 (Costco).

Awesome, thank you so much for replying. It seemed like a pretty good rate to me, given that I know minivans are more than cars in general. I will try to keep an eye out, but I don't think I'll spend the time to do a full on search everywhere on the web for every rental company code!

Renting cars is crazy! I actually booked our flights last night so I figured we can return the van an hour and a half earlier than I put in yesterday when I reserved it. So i went to their website and filled in the info to see what it would cost then, and the price has gone UP overnight with the same discount codes! Not by tons, but still up. The hourly rate, weekly rate, and daily rate all went up by a few dollars. I guess I knew this in theory, but never had a cause to see it so obviously. Needless to say, I didn't re-book because it would have been around an additional $20 to rent for 90 min less.

ninafeliz I agree, you got a great rate for a minivan for that length!!

mieuxmew I'm with you....I have a 7 passenger minivan for 9 days for $262(Costco and Visa coupon) and I keep checking to lower the price. Nothing lower yet.

no matter what time you use to pick up the rental, the time doesn't start 'ticking' until you actually pick up the vehicle. the general rule of thumb is your original rate holds for 2 hour window after stated time of arrival on the reservation, imo you should be fine returning it 90 min early.

I have a full size reserved with Alamo for 9 days from Tampa for $156 I booked months ago and haven't been able to come close to it ever since (Costco and $30 discount). I think my $156 for full size may be like your $219 for a minivan - probably a great rate that will be hard to beat. We are 2 adults/2 kids and can fit in a full size if we pack lighter. Here's hoping I can match your minivan price pixiedust:

I just checked again, and the price is back down to what it was originally. So I did rebook it for the correct times, which ended up being only 1 hr less but I did it anyway. So my total is $214.42 for a minivan may 1 at 2:30 - May 9th at 4:30. I doubt I will do much better.

Interestingly, we are debating about taking a car seat on the plane so our just over 2 year old will know he has to actually sit in his seat like when he is in a car (so far he's always been on my lap and done fine, we're worried about it now that he has his own seat). I love that alamo has a maximum charge of $66 for the car seat. But when I add the car seat the price goes up by more than the $66, and it is by more than just the sales tax. Some of the other fees must go up also when you add the car seat. It wasn't a ton, but I was just noticing as I debated adding it now and removing it if we don't' need it, or leaving it off and adding it if we do need it. I decided to not add it, and call to add later if needed. We really don't want to drag our own down, but OTOH we know how to install it and it might help calm a situation on at least takeoff for us and those around us!

Just making sure all May renters have checked out Costco recently! They have car rental rates as low as $16. a day and last week, we got our full size van(for 12) for a day for $67 for our transportation from MCO to Port Canaveral. This morning a full size van is $73 and a mini van is $53., so still some great prices!

Wow. Mine have actually gone up quite a bit at Costco. First time in a while they've actually moved.

Me too. My Alamo $220 minivan rental for the last 8 days in May is now $350. I think the new norm is the cheapest prices are to be had 2-3 months prior with an occasional decent last minute deal.

We are going May 9th to the 15th and a couple weeks ago snagged a midsize I believe for around $117 all in. Without Costco it hasn't gotten below $200.

I went through E Z Car rental last night. I used the code CDOTCOM from coupons.com and got a car for May 20 through May 24 for $110. Has anyone used E Z Car rental before? I'm a little nervous because we always use ME but we want to squeeze every last second out of our last minute mini vaca.

I'm seeing a 15 passenger van at alamo for 5/11-5/18 at 193 with taxes if anyone needs it

I am new here - but just got a compact on dollar.com. April 27th through May 4th. All in for $136! This is for Sanford Airport. Awesome deals on other size cars as well. No code needed.

I am starting to give up home on my boss' rental for May 3 to 10. The lowest rate I have been able to find was waaayyy back on January 21st, when I booked him a full size with EZ for $198 USD taxes in. Current rates are well over $200 :headache: . He's just under 6 weeks out, so you'd think that at least one of the in-terminal companies would start dropping!!! And of course, he likes to rub it in on a daily basis that I booked mine for the same week (May 1 to 8) for $114 Canadian :rolleyes1.

I am also watching Hotwire for him.....maybe that will work into a better rate.

I see so many got great rates. Are you allowed to post the codes anymore? I can't find them anywhere. Renting cars is so frustrating...

Wow. Just found a 15 passenger van for $315 for our days. Not sure we need that much. lol. But the 8 passenger has gone up almost $100. I wish we could fit in a suv because they've dropped in price. It's weird how prices are finally moving around. We must be getting close. :)
