MAY 2014 Car Rentals

Booked my car rental for May trip. Full size Dollar city special for 5/23 - 5/27. $198.10. Obviously hoping for better as the trip gets closer...

Changed my flight to Thursday night so I can do the 24 hour MK thing. Checked Dollar full size and got it for $186.60 (5/22 - 5/27 full size).

$11.50 will buy me a margarita at La Cava on a Monday!

I would encourage those who are looking, to check on Wednesday's around noon EST. I have had great luck at Dollar during those hours. I started off with a mid-size, and upgraded to a mini-van...and I am still checking back each week to see if I can get it lower!

Our mini van total, for 9nights/10 days, is currently $273. April 24-May3

I just booked Budget with a Costco code and a small corporate discount fro May 14-May 17 .... pick up MCO, with drop off at the port ... $134 including taxes for a mini van. Best price I have seen for some time.

We just decided to surprise our son with a trip during Star Wars Weekends, so I'm scrambling now to find a good deal on a car. We are going 5/17-5/24, and I was able to get a Premium from Alamo for $230. I booked the same with Dollar but returning the car earlier (with Alamo I assumed we would be taking the latest flight home and chose a late return time - the earlier return time only saved $10 so I left it late) and it came to $189.52. I'm hoping Alamo comes down a little, I prefer renting from them at MCO and going directly to the car, but I can stand in line if need be for Dollar. At this point it will depend on which flight we book coming home, as Dollar's price to return Sat evening is only a few dollars less than Alamo.

Odd that Premium was the cheapest option on both sites! I would prefer an SUV or minivan, but think the Premium will be big enough for all our gear. The only discount used was the Insider at Alamo, I did check GOVRNR since my husband is active military, but it was the same price.

Budget finally went down for me tonight. I got $146 including fees for 5/10 - 5/17. That is a pay it now price (but you can still cancel) and includes a $25 coupon I have with my BJ's membership. (Full-size)

Just found a good price from Enterprise for my May rental (5/22- 5/27) on carrentalsavers.com. Have never rented from Enterprise at MCO. Does any one have any experience with them? I use them locally and have always had good service.

Copied and pasted from my reply to similar question in the "official mini-van" thread:

I rent from Enterprise on a few times per year basis at airports.

Despite the somewhat "caution" comments that the woman who runs Mousesavers puts on her Web site, I have only once had a problem with Enterprise and that was some 15 years ago at BUR when the car I was given had a scratch on it and I insisted it be documented and the attendant refused.

I then refused to take the car. It was a bit of a stand-off until she gave in with exasperation and noted it on the documents. Don't know what her issue was.

Latest Enterprise rental was a few months ago in Colorado and had absolutely no problems.

The Enterprise business model revolves attempting to hire recent college graduates and grooming them into possible management positions. These "kids" are often perky, enthusiastic, etc. A change from those folks you often see behind the counter.

Having said that, with Enterprise's expansion from neighborhood locales into airports/resorts, they can't always keep to that mission and you see the typical rental car attendants there.

So, I would not stress over Enterprise. At times you can get amazingly good rates with no code rigamorole, etc.

They are a sister of Alamo and National, so, you can def. use an National Emerald Club membership and corporate ID with Enterprise (well, it's been a few months, but pretty sure you can, but I don't think Alamo insider works...

Daily update. Dollar rate down to $177.09. Down another $4.06. That will get me a box of popcorn on Main Street!

Today's price on Dollar: Full Size 15/22 - 5/27 $166.77. Another $10.32 savings. That will buy a couple of twitter shots at La Cava.

So since I first booked for $198.10 on 3/3, I'm down $33.31. Not bad.

LOL! You think like I do. A dollar saved is money I can spend elsewhere.

FINALLY, a decent rate from Dollar for our trip 5/24 - 5/31. Standard vehicle, one week rental @ $159. total using AAA code. City special was $169. I still prefer National or Alamo; hopefully they will come down also.

Just got a city special through dollar for 5/29-6/5 for $197.58, including taxes and fees. This is for a full size. I've been checking regularly and this is the best I've found so far. I jumped on it while I could.

It came up at $165.10 for my dates (5/23 - 5/27). My city special rate is $166.77.

Not going to change for $1.67...yet...

Found a cheaper flight and once again switched around our SWA flight down on 5/28. Surprised I was able to modify my existing reservation to keep my rate :banana:after reading so reports here that others tried and their res disappeared.

My weekly rate stayed the same $103.44+taxes & fees for a standard/full size car with the insider upgrade coupon.

Odd that the daily rate on my 4 extra days on the 11 day reservation dropped:confused3 but I'm not arguing, down to $208 for 11 days.

checked dollar, citispecial would be $250, plus extra driver fee
