May 2013 Car Rental - Best deals?

Just knocked another $40.00 off my reservation from Dollar for May. NO CODES. Go to their site. Plug in your dates and when it gives you the listing of vehicles, click on "City Specials". Good Luck :thumbsup2

Thanks! Just saved $11.00...every penny counts.:thumbsup2 Got a minivan for 210.00 for May 16-21 through the Dollar city specials.

I can't replicate the national deal. I put in the code ND9334SND. Is there anything I need to do?

I called SOG, and I was told I had to have a military ID to get past the guard shack and on to the property. They gave me the # for the Alamo/National desk. I called, and the man I spoke with said they rent to anyone. I asked him about getting on property with no military ID, and he wasn't really able to address that. He said people not staying at SOG rent from him all the time.

We are staying at US' RPR first, and I am considering taking a shuttle from MCO to SOG first to pick up the car then on to RPR. Hearing this makes me nervous to proceed with this.

The rates have been incredibly high this time, and I keep reading reports of people less than 10 days out still unable to find a decent rental car rate. This isn’t making me feel too hopeful. Costco has always been good to us with rates, but this year, I’m mentally preparing myself to go without a car.

I would love to hear from people who have rented at SOG but are not military. Anyone ???

Hi could you share that national office direct number? I can't find it online.

We are 11 days out and still no drop in prices. We are picking up @ Mco.(staying at SVR). I am stuck at $203 total thru Budget. Really looking to get the price down, so any help will be appreciated.
P/U @ MCO 5/4 10 a.m. dropoff @ MCO 5/11 3:30 p.m.

We were in the same boat, 5/8-5/15 and after waiting and waiting, we just decided to try priceline. Got an economy car for $142 with tax. We did the name our price thing.

For the end of May, the 6 and 7 day Costco Alamo rates dropped this afternoon -under 200 - and a full size is a little lower than an intermediate or compact.

hmmm..must be my dates and times? :confused3
I spent a few hours checking and re-checking all the codes and rates for National...still the best I can come up with is $313 for National.:worried:

Still have a little time...but based on things I am seeing here, I am not hopeful for a better deal.

After again being told by National that ANYONE in the general public can pick up a rental car from SOG, I called the SOG myself. I spoke with Maggie in reservations and she said that when you get to the welcome center, just tell them that you're there picking up a rental car and they will waive you through.

Are you a Costco member? I just put your dates in from 5/26-5/31 noon to noon since I wasn't sure of your times on Costcotravel. I got a rate with with Enterprise with all taxes and fees of $266. That lets you keep the van the entire time and you don't have to return and pick up again. Just a thought!

Thank you for the Costco info. I have been plugging in codes and signing up for memberships and trying all different combinations of pick-ups/drop-offs for our trip next week. We arrive Thursday night 10:30 p.m. and leave Monday night at 7 p.m. I planned to take DME to our resort and then pick up a car Friday morning and return it Monday before going back to our resort to get DME back to airport. Seemed like a lot of hassle and wastes a lot of time with the extra steps on Monday. So, I called my travelling companion whose husband is a manager at Costco so she has a membership, and she got us a rate from Thursday to Monday picking up and dropping off at MCO for $76.36. We have more time for much less money than I could get to come up with any of the suggested codes or links. The best rate I had found before that was Alamo Insider and coupon code on Mousesavers for $15 off and it still came in over $100 for Friday to Monday. I don't have a full five days to take advantage of a lot of the other discounts out there. I needed weekend rate, which seems to be higher for smaller cars than what a lot of you are finding.

I also saw on Mousesavers, but need to double check, that Costco members who rent with Alamo can have one non-relative adult driver added at no additional charge when it is usually $10 per day. So, since my friend is leaving a day after me to come home, we plan to pick-up together, but I will be returning it.

Yes, I believe you're correct that you can add a driver at no charge with Costco. Possibly easier, you can also do it if you're in Insiders member. But don't add the driver when you're at the kiosk because it will charge you. As you're exiting the ramp, just ask the person when you give them your paperwork and drivers license and they'll add the driver at that time. I didn't really trust the Alamo person when they told me to do this, but we've done it a couple times now with no problem (always using the Insiders membership).

Thanks for SOG tip.

Full Size - 5/18 @ 2:00 to 5/26 @ 6:30pm

$94.44 including all fees.

For those who are taking Disney transportation to get to SOG, do you know you don't have to?

You can just call National and they will send a shuttle to pick you up.

Do you definitely know this is the case at SOG? My reservation only lists a main phone #. Do I call that line or do I need to track down the SOG #? I was going to take a bus from OKW to Magic Kingdom, take the monorail to TTC or the Poly and then walk to SOG (Google Maps says 17 minute walk). I figured that could count as my exercise for the day, but a shuttle sounds much easier!

Thanks for posting the SOG deal! I just booked 5/25-5/29 and used a $30 coupon. My rate is $38 TOTAL with tax! We arrive Friday night after they're closed, so I'll have to take DME to our resort, then I'll take a bus to a park on Sat morning and then get on a SOG bus. Not a huge deal because we have friends flying in Sat morning and weren't going to a park until they arrived anyway. I'll keep watching because I'd pay another $40-$50 to not deal with the hassle, but this is over $100 less than my current rate.

Is this with National? What is the discount code?

Whoops! Just got off the phone to National and they DO NOT offer shuttle service to the SOG resort. The number for the National/Alamo Shuttle is 407-824-3470; may still be worth a shot on the day of rental. You never know.

Still glad to have found this great deal! :drive: Thanks to whoever originally posted about it!

Thanks for calling National! A shuttle would've been nice, but it's worth a 1/2 hr or so of bus time for the awesome price. Thanks for the direct phone # too - I'm glad I have that and I will call the day of and ask about a pickup, just in case they're feeling generous.

For the amount of money we're saving via the SOG deal from National, we have no problem spending $10-$15 on a cab to get us to SOG in a timely manner.
