May 2012 Car Rentals

I just used the Costco member code & $30 off coupon to book a midsize (Alamo) from 5/18 to 5/31 for $204.28 total. Also includes an extra driver for free. Not bad for 12 days! The price just dropped about $14 today because I had booked last week at $218. I'll keep checking to see if it goes any lower!!

If you are a Costco member, here are the codes I used:

I.D. 7015309
Coupon : AD8221SDF

This just dropped another $16 bucks today!!! Now down to $188.00!!

Finally - today is the first day EVER (and I check multiple times a day) that Costco Alamo rates for my trip the end of May have gone below $300 for a week! Around $220 for a midsize - BUT - if I pick up the car at MCO and return it to the DCCC it's only $193! I was so relieved to see some movement on the price!

Last year, the price with returning the car to the DCCC came down first too - and then finally returning to MCO dropped even lower. I typically pay around $100 'ish for a week.

Still higher than I would like - but better - holding out for lower!!! There's still time.....

I tried doing a pick up at MCO and a drop at the car care center and the prices were almost twice as much as taking it back to MCO. This was with Alamo. What am I doing wrong?!

Booked using the id and code you posted and got an economy (just three of us) for $185 all in for May16-22. I'll continue to look for an even better deal however today saw us saving $40 off our previous booking.:cool1:

Did you use the Costco Travel website? If so, where do you enter the the id and code? I went all the way to the "confirm" page where I have to enter my phone number and email address and don't see a place to enter the info. This is the last step before submitting the booking info. Right now for a 10 day rental I'm sitting at $364.02 for an intermediate (corolla type) car. I'd love to get this lower but don't see where to enter any codes.

Please help.

ETA: Never mind. When on the Costco website the ID and code automatically get applied. I guess the rates are still higher for early June. I'll just have to keep checking back.

May be the dates you are going. Usually, the situation you noted is what I find. I have noticed as the time gets closer I can sometimes get better prices by trying the drop off at DCCC over MCO. Historically, I find the prices drop, then it drops to return to the DCCC a little more and then around 30-20 days out the round trip from MCO bottoms out for the weekly rates. Just keep a watch - always an option to keep trying...

Wow, now I'm down to $108.28 for an eight day rental / Midsize / Alamo. I used the Visa code and $30 coupon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, crazy. How many days is that for? What were your dates and where do you pick up/drop off?

So glad you saved some money!!!

Sorry I didn't get back to you. I can't get on the Dis at work. Anyhow, yes, the codes are from the Costco Travel website. However, I just wrote down the codes and then booked it myself on the Alamo site. First, I searched all rental cars thru Costco and Alamo came up with the best deal so I clicked on the car type I wanted and then you can click terms and conditions and it will give you the rate codes used.
After getting those I went to the Alamo site and entered them by clicking on More Options at the bottom of the Get Rates box. The 7015309 goes in the ID field and AD8221SDF is the $30 off coupon code.

Hope this helps and definitely keep checking...my dates 5/18-5/31 dropped over $100 in the last 2 weeks!!!

BTW, are you a member?

FYI - I've heard mixed reviews about whether they will actually want to see a Costco membership card when you pick up the car. Just throwing that out there in case some people are using the codes and don't actually have a card to prove membership. I would hate for anyone to have a hassle and have to pay more!

Also, just another tip...my dates are 5/18-5/31. However, we aren't picking up the car until 5pm-ish on the 18th and returning it around 3pm on the 31st. At first I just searched using a pick up and drop off time of 4pm and the rates came up $30.00 higher so make sure you play around with the pick up and drop off times to closer to when you will actually need the car and see if that makes a difference.

Any one found any decent rates at sanford orlando international airport? We are there 05/10 - 05/20 but can't find rates anywhere close to what is listed here. TIA!

Thank you! I will keep looking as the time gets closer. We are doing a split stay (off-site first, then on-site), so it would be much more convenient to do a DCCC drop.

Right now we have 3 intermediate SUVs with Budget (pick-up drop off both at MCO) but we started off wanting 2 mini-vans from Alamo or National so we could do pick-up at MCO, drop off at DCCC. I just can't get the mini-van price down to anywhere near reasonable. They want close to $600 for one mini-van and over $1,000 (for a week!) if we drop at DCCC. Meanwhile, the 3 intermediate SUVs come in at $600 for all 3.

I will keep looking, though, because the DCCC drop would be very convenient. You have encouraged me to keep trying. ;)

Just booked a Minivan for 12 days May14-25 for $371, all in. I haven't seen too many comments about minivan prices, is that good? Should I expect it to go lower? We booked through Dollar with our Air and that was $430, so this is definately better.

I used the Visa Code and the coupon AD2359FDF...BTW what is that coupon? It says I may need to show it??

Glad to be on this thread :cool1:

Just rechecked and my minivan for 12 days is down to $331!!!

Hotwire has gone down again another $50 but it is still at $178 for our 8 days. I will wait a little longer since you have to pay the full price when you book from them until it gets down to around $120. I figure that will be my best price to go ahead and book with. Right now I am at $222 with taxes through carrentals.com.

So glad you saved some money!!!

Yes, I have a Costco membership, so no worries there. The codes and coupons are automatically there when using the Costco travel website.

I just went to check to see if my rates had become any lower (using the Visa code and $30 off coupon) and saw that the rates (1st week of May) were sky high again:scared1: I'm glad that I reserved already (7 days - Midsize SUV for $183.78 with taxes). Same SUV is now over $400. I've never seen this type of flucuation in rental car prices. Anybody know what's going on?:confused3
