May 2012 Car Rentals

My Alamo rate for a standard from the 28th until the 7th is about 25 dollars higher than when I booked it a few days ago. I was hoping to see some serious drops like some people in this thread did. However, I am happy with the price so if it doesn't I'll live.

Wow - glad I booked when the rates dropped last week. I have a full size reserved with Alamo May 4th - 9th, for a total of $66.35! It's now back up to over $300!!

That's good news for early May people!
My dates haven't gone down, May14-26 for a minivan...I'm sitting at $242 which isn't bad for 12 days, but am hoping for it to go lower! Checking several times per day..:goodvibes

Who did you book this rate through/code? Does it include taxes? I have $225 plus fees = $299 with budget for a minivan. I am Sun-Sat so I can't use any of the $35 off coupons which you would with 12 days, but you are still cheaper than me. Thanks

I couldn't sleep (stupid insomnia:headache:) so I checked the Alamo rates. They were down another 7 dollars. Nothing to throw a party about but I'll take it.;)
So my 10 day rental staring April 28th is now down to 162.00 for a standard car. Not too bad!:thumbsup2

Dropped again this afternoon. At 153.00 for the 10 day rental. I am loving this:banana:

I booked with Alamo, on their website.

I used the Travelocity/American Airlines Coupon
AD2359FDF, which gave me $35 dollars off.
There was a $22 discount listed, don't know what code that was.:confused3

My Rate was $144 for the week, and $82 for the additional 4 days ($20/day), about $73 in other fees etc..

My dates are May14-25

Im thinking maybe in another week or two, things will go down for my dates...just based on what others have experienced.

I think the 22 dollars off that is listed is the 10 percent discount you get for booking with your Alamo Insiders I.D.
I have an additional 10 percent off too.

Just dropped again. I am at 145 for my 10 day standard rental:scared1:
I'm afraid to go to bed in case they start offering to pay me to take the car for the 10 days and I miss it:rotfl:

Check your dates people!!
I am using the AD2359FDF (Travelocity/American Airlines code) and my Alamo Insiders ID.
Standard is cheapest for my dates right now. But don't forget Alamo doesn't have a Standard aisle at MCO so it's been confirmed it will be a full size and I will have a free extra driver with my Alamo Insiders membership:banana:

That is awesome!
My dates are still over $1000...I am thinking when I get to the two weeks before like you are then maybe I will see some downward movement!

I know we get an extra driver with the insiders membership, but do you know if we can do that online or at the kiosk...or am I going to have to go to the counter? Our reservation is in my name, but I want to make sure and put my husband on as he will primarily be driving.

I don't get it. Is there something going on the first week of May (5 thru 12) in Orlando? I have been looking for months each time someone here posts that they got a good rate and can't even get close to the prices I see some of you are getting. I just checked Alamo again using the insider ID and the travelocity code and it is coming up at $267 for the week for a standard size. Am I not doing something right?

I went to check for my inlaws as we will be adding them to the rental and sharing the car. At this point it's getting so cheap I figured they might as well get their own rental. Their dates are April 30th to May 7th. A standard for them with the same codes was 100 dollars higher than ours.
So the only thing I can speculate from that is that my dates are coming up cheaper because they start earlier, and that those of you after me (April 28th) will start dropping in the next few days too. Just a theory.

As far as the extra driver, I have to go to the car care centre to do it because we're adding my FIL 2 days after we pick up the car.
I have read you can do it at the kiosk but that sometimes it tries to add the extra driver fee anyway. If that happens I have seen people report they get it fixed at the check out on the way out of the garage or go to the counter.
This is just info I have read on recent Alamo threads.

A standard is $138 inc taxes with Budget on Expedia.ca. Additional driver is free with Budget for spouse.

Are you sure you can get your FIL listed as an additional driver for free with Alamo? From the mousesavers website it looks like they are only free if they live at the same address as you:

Alamo Insiders members in the United States are allowed to have the following additional drivers without a fee:

Member's spouse, common law spouse, or domestic partner who has the same address on the driver's license as the member and who meet normal renter requirements.

Immediate family member, Mother/Father, Son/Daughter, or Brother/Sister who has the same address on the driver's license as the member and who meet normal renter requirements.

Thank you for asking. I did read that, but the Alamo site itself gave different information. So I asked here, and one of our members who worked at Alamo assured me that I could do it at the CCC and to ask for a manger if I had any trouble. The way it is worded in the Alamo contract states that someone can be added or dropped from the reservation at any point by going in to a corporate location. The CCC location qualifies. And there is nothing in the contract or on their site to indicate that it has to be a family member or the same address. I printed the info from their site and my contract in case I run into problems, but it clearly stated that any additional driver is free as long as they are both members of Alamo Insiders. :)

It's confusing.. and I don't want to say Mousesavers is wrong but it would appear that is not the case. Of course I won't know for sure until I go to do it, but from my research it looks good.

ETA) Here's the thread with the text copied from the Alamo site in case anyone else needs it.

I would be more inclined to go with the information from Alamo's website.

From the Alamo web site: Any additional driver (including a spouse or domestic partner) will pay a daily fee of approximately $10 per day.

Fees are waived for additional drivers who are:

•Members of Alamo Insiders Program; which allows for one additional driver to be added at no cost.
•Corporate Contracts in the United States are allowed the following additional drivers at no charge:
· Commercial (corporate) rentals

· The renter's business partner

· Employer or fellow associate, who has a signed corporate contract with Alamo and drives the car for business purposes and who meet normal renter requirements.

Does anyone know if expedia has cancellation fees?

If you are talking about booking a car through Expedia.ca like webworm mentioned.. no. I had a car booked with them for a few weeks. Cancelled it with no problems and had my money back within 48 hours just a few days ago:)

So my grown daughter who no longer lives at home cannot be my free additional driver? I am renting the mini van for the both or us and children to go to a dance competition. It seems totally crazy that we have to pay additional for her to drive, I hate driving at night. If she registers for Alamo insider will she still have to pay the additional fee?:confused3
