May 2011 Yo Ho Ho! Let Down Your Hair! (New 10/9 Lessons Learned #550)

Yes, if you recall waaaaay back in early May, I made a promise to you all and myself, that I was going to be C_A_L_M for this trip. I never actually push my family as much as I would if it were just me. But this trip, I wanted to really lay back and relax more.

I know Jerry gets frustrated at the end of every Disney trip b/c he thinks I push too much. So this trip was going to be different!! Right?!

The girls truly had a blast at this Pixie playground. And I got one of my absolute favorite photos of the trip.

Elizabeth and I were walking in the Bamboo tunnel, I set up the camera as she ran away from me and then just called her name --SNAP!

More fun

I had to take this photo ... the butterfly from Bambi's Butterfly garden is resting on the sign advertising the Flower and Garden festival. It's amazing how Disney can train even the wildlife to be picture perfect!;)
IMG_3488.jpg

Then I left Jerry to watch the girls at the 3rd playground while I went to a kiosk to see what Flower and Garden merchandise they had. Would I get the Mickey Flamingos? No, I decided they were too expensive. They were about $30 or so for just one!! I thought it was that much for 2 of them.

So I walked away and told Jerry about them. He said I should get them if I want them. I talked about it prior to our trip so why not?

Hmmm, I walked back to look at them again. But now the line was soooo long. I considered it my destiny not to get them. Then Rachel said she had to go to the bathroom and Elizabeth needed a diaper change. Well, Rachel and I were quicker than Jerry and Elie ... and guess what? The line was gone. I could purchase them right now with little wait.

decisions, decisions....

Hmmm, I did have the Disney VISA gift card. I did trade a Safeway gift card for $30 into a Disney gift card....

And then I made the mistake of looking into his eyes .... I mean how can you say no to this???
Picture002.jpg

Here they are in my garden. I have them tucked away in my front yard so they aren't visible from the street ("eyesore?") nor would someone try to steal them.

We wandered over to France and saw:
DSCN0129.jpg

Now my parents were also in Epcot but they think seeing characters is a big waste of time and playgrounds aren't for them. So they went and did the rides and we went back to the Pixar building to see who would be out today. You had to get in rather long lines and the characters kept changing so just b/c a character was there now, doesn't mean you'd see him when it was your turn.

We went back to the shorter line of UP! characters and thanks to the people in front of us, we got to see both Dug and Carl. They were waiting to see Russell, whom we had seen yesterday, so they let us go in front!! Thank you random kind people!! We were the last folks to see Dug and Carl before they switched characters again! God is good -- add that to another blessing!

Rachel and a green army man

Here are the Monsters Inc characters we didn't get to meet (we saw George, the orange guy with the sock yesterday)
IMG_3492.jpg

Another monster from Monsters Inc.
IMG_3496.jpg

Now I'm starting to worry. All these monsters we haven't seen yet are going away and I'm thinking, great...they are just going to bring back George, again. UGH.

But to my wonderful surprise -- these guys came out!!! God is good! Add that to another blessing!

Photo0153FourBySix.jpg

I was totally thrilled! Jerry had gone off with Elizabeth who had fallen asleep to hear one of the lectures from Cars 2. The guest speaker was Jay Ward and he talked about how they designed the cars in Cars 2.

Kelly -- I remember the photo of Trent and Sully you sent to Allears! Here is our version:
Photo0159FourBySix.jpg

Rachel loved Boo the best -- and when you gave her a hug she made kissing noises!
Photo0147FourBySix.jpg

I really liked these guys
Photo0146FourBySix.jpg

Then Rachel and I joined up with Jerry in the lecture hall. It was really quite interesting and funny and we both wanted to stay longer. What a rare chance to hear from someone important who worked on the movie. But Elizabeth woke up and alas, a 2 and 5 year old aren't interested in a lecture....even if it is Disney.

After Pixar, we wandered around and had lunch at Morocco. Cost would have been $57 for CS lunch but it was covered on our DDP.

More topiaries

We stopped for some photos

Some of my favorites...I love them all so you get to see all of them!

Then we saw Slim from It's a Bug's Life. Elie didn't like Slim -- he was about 10' tall!

We stayed and watched the German train model. It was decorated for the Flower and Garden Festival/Pixar weekend with Cars 2 and Toy Story topiaries

Saw Pascal on Rapunzel's tower! :rotfl2: This little lizard picked the right tower to climb
DSCN0142.jpg

Love this topiary of Rafriki and Simba
DSCN0148.jpg

Then we headed over to do this ... any guesses??
DSCN0154.jpg

here is another shot of that blue monster...
DSCN0155.jpg

Yes, we rode Maelstrom at Norway. And had to snap a pic of the girls as Norway Vikingettes! I particularly love Elizabeth's fighting attire! The cute little polar bear adds a nice warrior touch!
DSCN0158.jpg

So off to American pavilion but neither the Voices of Liberty nor drummers were out. However, it was hot, so we put our hands in the fountains and Rachel played on the hula hoops that were out. I had to laugh at the CM -- there was this old grandmother woman out there assigned to doing the hula hoops with the kids. It was really funny b/c she could NOT do it...but she had a great personality and was funny!

Some pics as we make our way back to Future World
DSCN0162.jpg

DSCN0175.jpg

So by now, Jerry is getting amazed that I am not rushing anything...just letting the girls play in fountains, hula hoops, playgrounds. What's up?

I told him my promise to just chill for as long as I can...told him jokingly that I'll probably only make it to Tuesday (today is Sunday) but we'll see.

We come across Duffy Bear and have to stop! Elie just loves Duffy (what 2 year old doesn't) and so does Rachel.
Photo0260FourBySix.jpg

We got both Rachel's own-made autograph book and a Little Golden Book about Disney bear signed by Duffy.
Photo0243FourBySix.jpg

And Duffy was so happy to see his cousin -- Elizabeth's Teddy Bear
Photo0250FourBySix.jpg

Elizabeth just loves him! Lots of Duffy Bear photos...
Photo0232FourBySix.jpg

Well, as we were working our way back, we are all hot and we came across the Epcot fountains ... now we didn't have swimsuits or towels but in my new "take it easy and have fun" approach, I said, what the heck? go have fun girls!

And they did.

And Rachel was soaked.

Here I am waiting/watching the girls play.
DSCN0176.jpg

So we wrang out what we could, changed into dry clothes for Rachel and went to the bathrooms in Innoventions. We met up with my parents and then headed over to Imagination to get our annual Family tradition photo. Elie decided not to participate.
DSCN0179.jpg

THen we headed over to Nemo and rode that.
DSCN0184.jpg

I had put all of Rachel's clothes on the top of the stroller to dry in the sun. When we came back -- guess what was missing? Her gymboree top? No. Her hot pink gymboree shorts? No. Her basic underwear? Yes.

Can you believe it? Some weirdo out there stole a 5 year old girls' underwear!! Add that to the Prayer column!

I took this photo from Nemo (see previous pic and just zoom in). I thought it was really cool to see Spaceship Earth surrounded by the trees. I hadn't seen that view before. I just used this as a background page for my Picaboo photo album, too!
DSCN0186.jpg

Gotta get a Bruce the Shark photo. This time Elie isn't crying/scared
DSCN0189.jpg

And when we went to leave, the Living Coral was back! This was my first time to see it. I like Divine better in AK, but this was neat, too.
DSCN0194.jpg

We were early for our dinner reservations so we went to The Land and rode the boat ride. My girls always like this.

Then we checked into The Garden Grill. This was my first time eating here that I remembered (ate here as a kid). My parents joined us for dinner.

This restaurant gets mixed reviews. My parents did not enjoy it many years ago but we decided to give it a try. Characters, a floor that circles, family style -- what could go wrong??

How about almost getting kicked out???!!??:scared1:

I just love these Princess and the Frog photos you took of Jerry and each girl! I love how Elie's hair is blowing to the side just-so, it looks so sweet!

She's growing up into a little lady so fast! And my goodness Rachel is so tall! :goodvibes

darn, I thought that you were gonna let us guess. And I knew that one...LOL (referring to Maelstrom)

I Loooove Maelstrom. There is just something so refreshing about those little fun drops in there!

I never even knew there was a living coral! Where is that person's face? LOL

So jealous that you got to meet Boo!

Yeah, she was a cutie! Years ago I had made an autograph page for Monsters Ince with Sully, Mike W and Boo ...but then was told that Boo doesn't appear as a character, either at all, or not very often. So when I saw her come out I was just thrilled!! None of the Pixar characters signed autograph books but that's ok ... I just want to be able to put a photo of us with the character on the page.

eeek!!! is there more coming next??? hehehe can't wait to hear how the playground stopping went over! :thumbsup2

yes, there is more coming! I had to put out a big update since I hadn't updated in ages.

And playground stopping was just fine! I was really just happy to be at WDW and wanted to take it slow.

Yeah, the photos of Jerry and the girls got really good -- that's why I posted so many of them!:rotfl2:I couldnt' decide which ones to show.

Yeah, Elie is just a sweetie. Her face is sort of a softer version of Rachel's and her hair is getting so long!

Rachel is just heads and shoulders taller than other 6 year olds that we meet. She is going to be exactly like me in that regard. It's both good and bad. I know she'll get teased about being so tall ... I just hope I can instill in her the good things my parents and a tall sunday school teacher told me about being proud of being tall.

Sorry -- my first thought was to let you guess ... but I really wanted to try to finish the day before Elie woke up from her nap. but kudos to you for knowing that was Maelstrom!! now let's see if other people recognize it!

The living coral was only for the special Pixar 25th Anniversary weekend. I understand they had it previously for another special occasion, but it is not a regular character.

I couldn't find the face either! They are incredibly themed!

Love the pictures and the trip report. And the cliff hanger is wonderful!! You know the Duffy pictures are special to me. I love that silly bear.

The Pixar characters are so cool. I can tell Elie was interested in the living coral.

How did you like taking it slow and casual?

I was so excited when I logged on and saw an update:thumbsup2

What a great day. I love that you took it easy. It really is great to slow down once in awhile and enjoy simpler things :goodvibes

pixar characters are great..love the sully pic :lovestruc

OMG, that is disgusting that someone took her underwear

Great photo pass pics....

Can't wait to hear about Garden Grill popcorn::

I do not know how I missed the part about the underwear. That is just disturbing!

Wow what a long update! I love your picture with Mike, Sully, and Boo- what a great surprise!!

I love your Mickey flamingos so much, I'm glad you got them, they're just too adorable to pass up!
Duffy looks so huggable! I see why your girls love him so much:goodvibes
And wow I can't believe someone would steal a little girls' underwear!? That's just crazy, I don't understand some people:sad2:

The picture you all got with the Living Coral is so cool though! I had no idea they had him/her/it at Epcot. Is it just like a giant thing of coral that walks around? Haha I mean I can't tell if it even has a face:rotfl:

Can't wait to hear more :)

Yeah, I knew you would like the duffy pics. You did see I took pics of the bikers for you, too??:thumbsup2

Pixar characters were great. I was a bit disappointed in the living coral since you couldn't really see a face (I thought it would be more like divine at ak) but it was neat.

Slow and Casual -- well This day was a good day!:goodvibes;)

Seriously, going slow was good. The girls had a blast and since Rachel was not in a stroller (first trip), she was able to wander off and enjoy things, look at stuff that interested her. She loved it!

Yeah, the underwear thing was just weird. I mean IF I was going to steal something it would have been the adorable ladybug top! So I can only imagine that it was a creep...sort of weirded me out being at Disney and all...I tend to forget that THAT sort of stuff happens.

Agree.

Yeah, the flamingos make me laugh and smile every time I see them! I'm glad I got them.

Monsters inc main characters was a wonderful thing.

Duffy is great!

Yep, the living coral is supposed to be a giant thing of coral walking around but I think they almost put TOO much on it, and it ends up just being a bunch of colors. I was a bit disappointed in it, but am glad we saw it.

Marking your trip I will come back tomorrow to read

Welcome!!! This is both the pre-trip and post-trip report, but the table of contents are on post #2 and post #3 to make it a bit easier for reading.

Whew! Now Rachel is in a theater production -- Rapunzel! And they are basing it on Disney's Rapunzel so she is thrilled (and so am I). It's not 100% Disney's but close enough with many of the same characters, songs and story-lines.

Rachel is Thuri (name changed), who is actually one of the thugs. She is the one who is the mime. But like I said, it doesn't follow 100% so she has talking parts (7 of them!) and a solo in the I have a dream song ("and my goiter and my nose!")

We are excited. She is the youngest (6yo) by 3 years so she is a bit intimidated but she is having fun. If this is something she truly wants to do, then we'll support her.

love theatre :goodvibes great for her...hope the experience is delightful~

love all the trip updates and character pictures what a special time to be at the parks! We would have loved that!

And yay for just the go w/ the flow for the kids day I bet this will be one of their most fav days...

We saw the living coral on our first trip as a family to WDW and it "took" Bekah's hat (she was then 6) I had just turned off the video camera as it happened...great moment and memory...

I am very curious to hear about your GG experience was thinking about that for our 2013 trip...hmmmm what did you do?

Yes, anyone who likes characters would have  that Pixar weekend. We actually met several CM in line for the characters that came to the parks just to meet them too!

yep, the girls really liked this day and I had fun too! It felt good to just go with the flow and we did things we wouldn't have normally done. But I also know that part of the reason I felt we could do that is b/c this was our 3rd trip on one AP, so I didn't feel like we were missing out on the regular stuff. And we still did the special Pixar characters!!

I will say that the food at GG was really good -- it surprised all of us! I compare it to The Liberty Tree Tavern in MK, except this had a fish option, too.

I meant to mention the bicycle pictures. I even showed them to Scotty. They were very cool. I get bored too and that is why I normally bring my Nook.

And Jerry didn't think I was TOO crazy to take a picture for my Dis friends! :rotfl2::lmao:

It was fun to see...just wish they didn't block up traffic for almost an hour...UGH.

When we were in Disneyland last year I had Scotty take pictures for different friends. He just shook his head and did it. I think they know us and love us.

It is fun to see but I think they could have planned that a little better.

I'm finally caught up!! Your Rapunzel party looked awesome! There were so many details- like the braid in the window- that were so cool. It souunds like you guys had an awesome day at EPCOT...I have to say, though, that I am REALLY curious as to what almost got you kicked out of Garden Grill!
Oh- I loved your "par-tay" outfit from the Gaylord National Hotel!! Where did you get those tops? I want them! :)
