May 2011: The kids are getting 3rd visit surprise! Now w/pics!

:yay: for upgrading to CSR and :yay: for your pin code! Don't you just love free dining? Loving the PTR!

May 26th, we'll visit EPCOT. Park hours are 9-9.

We've booked the AAA Storytime Experience for 10:45.
We have dinner reservations at Coral Reef for 6:20.

I tried to talk DH into taking the 2 hour Segway tour around WS, but he doesn't want to shell out the money for it. I pointed out that yes, it was $99 but it would be worth it. He wants a Segway soo bad.

I really wish I could spend more days at Epcot, there's just soo much to see and do with WS. I really wish we could do two days, one full day for FW and one full day for WS. Maybe if we stay another day, we'll visit Epcot on Friday. Who knows what DH will want!

Our must do list:
Captain EO
Kim Possible - we haven't done this before, but I think we might enjoy it
Ellen's Energy - we tried this last year, but it broke as we was watching the pre-show
visit Innoventions - we'll spend a couple hours here, I'm sure
Mission Space - GREEN team
Soarin
Spaceship Earth - if we have to cut something, it may be this
Test Track
Seas Pavillion - we rode the Nemo ride, but never explored the area
??? IllumiNations - we'll see how we feel
Kidcot stations - this is a must do for the kids! They'll have the passport kits
??? JAMMitors - if we have to cut things, this might be it
Matsuriza
Miyuki - we love watching her! Last year DD was picked and she requested a bunny
??? Mo'Rockin - we may cut it
??? Off Kilter - we may cut it if time gets away
??? Oktoberfest - may get cut
Sergio
Serveur Amusant
British Invasion - I'd like to see two shows; last year I filmed this, but you can't watch it because I was dancing and bopping all over the place :lmao:
Spirit of America Fife
Hat Lady
Turtle Talk
Voices of Liberty
World Showcase Players
plus all the WS attractions we've missed in the past

We've seen Norway, Mexico, and China, so we won't spend much time at those pavillions.

It was odd, in 2009, everytime we turned a corner, there was an abundance of characters. We didn't catch many last year. We saw Marie and Sleeping Beauty .. that was all. In 2009, we saw Pooh & Tigger, Alice, Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, Lilo, Marie, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Jasmine & Aladdin, Belle & Beast, Donald - plus Princesses from Akershus. Maybe we'll get lucky again this year and find some characters!

:yay: for upgrading to CSR and :yay: for your pin code! Don't you just love free dining? Loving the PTR!

 Thank you! I am soo excited!! I really wish it was reg FD, but QS FD with an upgrade is still awesome!

Monday 5/23, we'll be hitting DHS. They're open from 9-10 (with PM EMH).

We'll see what standby and FP times are for TSM, RnRC, and ToT and figure out what to FP and what to ride first. I dread ToT sooo much. My stomache is in knots just thinking about having to ride it ... but its DD9's favorite ride, so I'll grin and bear it (and cry while standing in line).

I bet it will be TSMM
TOT is my favorite and i'm hopign that my DD will be brave enough to ride it this year. Last time she wanted to and my mom talked her out of it. Now she's not so sure. i dont want to ride it by myself though.

I'm excited for the new Star Tours and can't wait to see it. We'll make sure that DS5 gets to see the Disney Junior show at some point in the day.

looking forward to this show also.

I'd like to see the parade at DHS, as I've never seen the parade before. I know its changed from what it was last year, and I know some people like it and some people hate it. We'll see it regardless - as it will be amazing for the kids.

I'm hoping P&F are available. DS5 and DH are huge fans. This might be the only greet that DH would get involved in. :lmao:

my dh woudl probably like this one too
We didn't see the Stunt Show the past two years, so we're going to make a point to watch it this year. And we always have to see Indy. DH would be sad if I said we were skipping it this year. I do hope he'll get the courage to play an extra this year. I'd love to film him up on the stage being silly in front of everyone. The kids would LOVE it!

I think we'll ride The Great Movie Ride again this year, and see if we can find more handprints of stars we love.

We're looking forward to Muppet*Vision 3D (DH was soo upset last year when I told him it was closed for refurb). DH is a huge Muppet fan (if he doesn't wear his Indy hat, he wears a Kermit ballcap).

My goal for this year's DHS visit is to see some of the street performers. We've missed them the past two years! (Granted, last year while us girls were in the restroom, one of the starlets came and sat with DH for a few minutes and talked to him - he was wearing a Superman shirt, so she played along with it. I hated that I missed it!!!!!!)

We have a 6:45 dinner at 50's Prime Time Cafe. I'm excited to dine here. I wanted to eat here our first year, but I was more focused on character dining than adult dining, so we had lunch at H&V (well, I was ill with sun poisoning, so DH and the kids did). Last year, we had Sci Fi (which we LOVED). DH is a bit apprehensive about 50's PTC, but I youtubed a bunch of videos, and from what I saw, he'd be just fine. And if not, we just won't go back if he's with us. :thumbsup2

dh was not interested in their antics; he's a big wallflower; but he's going back. i think they read your vibe as to if you want to play or not.

After dinner, we'll see how we feel and go from there. If we're not ready to go back to the hotel, we'll wander around the park and check out the available EMH attractions (not certain what will be open yet, haven't checked into it). We might just people watch, or go wander around another resort and check it out.

EDIT: I'm not decided on QS lunch. We liked Backlot Express last year. Maybe we'll do Pizza Planet this year? I dunno. We might just wing it and grab whatever is closest to us when we get hungry.

EDIT: I finally created my "must do" list:
Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground
Disney Jr Live
Indiana Jones - I hope DH will try to get picked as an extra!
Lights, Motors, Action - we've always passed this as it didn't seem like we'd enjoy, but I want to do new things this year!
Muppet*Vision 3D - this is our #1 Must DO!
RnRC
Star Tours
Great Movie Ride
Magic of Animation
ToT - I fear this! :scared1:
TSM
Beauty & the Beast
watch Disney Rocks
watch Pixar Parade
Jedi Training Academy - maybe both kids will do this!

Guess I should give a little bit of info about us while I have a few minutes.

Me: (Mom) I love all things Disney. I'm over-emotional (I tear up seeing WDW vacation commercials). I'm a geek-mom, as I love video games just as much as I do Disney (Disney games are even better!). I'm an over-planner, but I'm flexible - so if a kink pops up in a plan, I can roll with it and adjust. I don't plan out things by the minute (or even hour), but more like a priority guideline. My favorite characters are Goofy and Eeyore (and they are the only ones I'll push down my own kids to get to :rotfl: Yes, I'm kidding, I won't really push them down.) My favorite park is DHS. My favorite attraction is Finding Nemo the Musical.

DH: (Dad) He doesn't get Disney. And lately, he's been kind of blue because Uncle Walt keeps taking our money (but the trip is paid off now!!). But he loves me and the kids sooo much, he takes us so we can have wonderful adventures. He will admit that he LOVES Disney food. (He loves to eat!) His only requirement is we have to dine at Wolfgang Pucks each visit, so I always make sure that is the first ADR we book. DH doesn't ride much in the parks (he's afraid of rides), and that's okay. There are some things I've asked him (more than once) to ride with me - but nothing that I think he can't handle. (He was fine on BTMRR - but didn't bother asking for SM, RnRC, or ToT.) He rode Mission:Space Orange our first visit and did well. So if I pick on him about not riding things, he points that out to me quickly. (He was in the USAF and as most boys dreamed - he wanted to be an astronaut.) DH is a dad-geek and loves video games. Out of all the parks, his favorite would have to be DHS (for Indy and Star Wars) or Epcot (for the cultural experience and food).

DD9: (Cindy-relly) princess: She's a girly-girl who just turned 9 and is in love with watching Disney programming. She adores Wizards, Jonas, Hannah, High School Musical, Sonny, etc. (Sometimes, she drives me crazy with the TV.) Every year, she wants a Hannah Montana (or High School Musical) party. Her favorite princess is probably Belle. She wasn't even two when I started buying her Cinderella toys and clothes (she made an excellent Cindy with her natural blonde hair). Her favorite ride is ToT. :scared1: Her favorite park is MK. When asked what she wanted to do at WDW (our first year) more than anything, she responded with "Meet Tink". So we waited in line for 2 hours and 45 minutes for her to meet Tink. It was worth it, though!

DS4/5: (Donald) :donald: He's mommy's baby-boy and will turn 5 in March. He loves Disney Junior (aka Playhouse Disney). His favorite character is Donald - who was the only character he'd meet our first year. Our first day in Epcot (lunch with Princesses at Akershus), and he didn't want to have anything to do with them. We even met Lilo and Marie. Nope. But as soon as he saw Donald in Mexico, he RAN and hugged him (thankfully there wasn't a line). Donald was soo kind that day, he sat on the ground and played "Thomas trains" with DS and gave him extra special attention. (I let Donald know that DS was his #1 fan and that he had been scared of the princesses and other characters.) Once Donald broke him in, he wasn't as scared of the other characters. DS's fave park would probably be AK (he loved looking at the reptiles and other creatures that I had to keep my distance from). He loves trains, so he was excited to ride BTMRR (for the theme - he knew it wasn't a real train). We made sure to take a ride on the WDW RR.

More updates to come as I have time! Since the kids don't know we're going, I can only write when they're sleeping or at school. :thumbsup2

So I tried to call WDW to see if there was any other offers available to me that might get us into a Mod resort and still be in our budget. I gave up after waiting 20 minutes on hold. I don't have unlimited minutes on our cells, and we usually come close to our monthly allotment anyway (thank you for rollover minutes!). DH has given me new budget numbers for Mod and Deluxe resort packages. Maybe some new public deals will be out in March or April - or maybe I'll get lucky and get a personal deal via mail or email.

But ... IF I can snag a deal that fits within the budgets he's given me, I think I'll try POFQ for Mod ... and if by some miracle, I was able to swing a deal on a Deluxe within the budget, then I won't be picky (but I'll cross my fingers for Poly).

But it would have been nice to ask a CM if there was anything else out there that I can't see in front of me. :surfweb:

So on day 3, we'll head out to MK which is open 9-9. We won't get to see MSEP, as it isn't showing 5/25, but we can still watch Wishes if we're up for it (or we might just head on out early). Please don't flame me for not seeing Wishes! We have seen it every year, and yes, we absolutely LOVE it, but I won't get heartbroken if DH is ready for early bed.

In the past, we have only done QS meals at MK, so we could maximize our park time. This year, we're going to have a 6:30 dinner at Tony's. DH wanted Italian at some point during our stay, so this sounds like a good place. They also had several options on the menu that I was excited about, and since we'll get our "must dos" in early, everything else will be icing on the cake.

I'm excited to see if DS will ride BTMRR again this year. Last year, he wanted to ride because of the theme. He said he loved it, but I worry that if we try to ride again this year, he'll get scared.

I'm hoping that DH will be "that guy" when we see Monsters Inc this year. If we're lucky, we might be able to squeeze in two viewings this year.

I'm undecided where we'll eat QS lunch at. We loved Columbia Harbor House and Cosmic Rays. (I honestly don't remember where we ate in 2009.)

Hmm... I don't know if I mentioned my QS picks on my other posts. I may have to go edit those in.

And I'm hoping and praying that this year I can have a Dole Whip! I didn't know about them in 2009 and I forgot last year. :sad1: I need an alert to remind me to go get one this year.

I'm undecided on if we'll watch the Celebrate parade this year. Last year, Lady Tremaine picked on DD (she had chocolate on her face from her Mickey bar). I guess we'll see how our day goes and what the kids would rather do. They may prefer to spend more time on the attractions than seeing the parade.

Do they still do the Move It Shake It Celebrate It parade? I remember last year, we saw 3 parades: MiSiCi, Celebrate a Dream Come True, and SpectroMagic (before it went MSEP). I know MiSiCi parade was probably DD's favorite (since she got to get in the street with the performers and dance).

My goal this year is to see parades/shows we haven't seen before ...

EDIT: I have our Must Do list now!
BTMRR
Buzz Lightyear
??? Country Bear Jamboree - haven't seen it, but might if we have time

??? Celebrate Parade - we caught it in the past, but guess we'll see how much we get done by then
??? Dream Along - we've seen, so it will depend on time
??? Wishes - guess it will depend on how exhausted we are
Tangled - I hope we can get in tell me aobut this please ??? MiSiCi - this was DD's favorite .. but it will depend on time as well
??? Family Magic tour - waiting on DH to let me know if we should book this or not ... it'll take about 3+ hours out of our day, and we'll have to cut things for it
Pirates League - DH said to sign both kiddos up! :cheer2:

see responses above in Pink

also, i feel like you- i've got a lot of AK i've never done. I figure it's just an excuse to come back again soon

you got me thinking when you mentioned only DIS'ing when the kids weren't around. maybe the surprise isnt' the best thing for me. i can't wait to hear how it goes for you though.

Today has been a rough planning day. I've put all my planning things away and promised myself to not think or touch them again until I can accept that my choices are fine.

Okay, let me back up ... I'm overplanning today and looking too deep into my plans and worrying that they aren't as good as they could be.

I don't know why I'm not happy with my current plans (ie which days at which parks specifically). I've never second-guessed my decisions. The first year, we visited the parks in the order that I wanted to see them. The second year I had DIS. I viewed TP, but still made choices based on what I wanted (we did mostly AM EMH's). This year, I don't want to get up early for AM EMH, and I really want to see as few people as I can. I guess this is why I'm stressing so much.

DH and I have discussed adding PH to our tickets. We never had them in the past (we didn't want to waste time going from one park to another). This year, we've considered it, but not decided one way or another. I know some people swear by them and would be lost without them. We've been fine in the past without them. If a line is too long, we find something else to do. And its possible that we decide not to get them, and once we arrive, we have a change of heart.

Why can't I just accept that my plans are okay as they are? So what if I did pick a bad park and its elbow to elbow. We'll be at WDW!!!

Okay, I'm done for now. But I do promise planning books, webpages, papers, etc will stay out of sight for the rest of the day. (Know what I need? I need a helper! Why does this visit have to be a surprise for the kids?)

i get the same feelings. like everyone will hold it against me if i pick something i should not have. Relax- it can never be perfect- you can't predict a tour group or a bathroom break or anything like that. just do what is best for your family and leave it like that.

I don't really care if we see County Bears or not ... but added it to the list. I'm sure the kids might like it ... but who knows. :confused3

When it comes to AK - both years I've left the park going "Wow! We did EVERYTHING here this year!" :lmao: Little did I know I missed over half the park both times.

I DIS when the kids are around, but I can't work on my PTR. They know mommy lurks the boards and they understand its Disney themed, but they don't know about the PTR! :thumbsup2

I did almost break the news today ... on accident. I started to ask DH about some things, but quickly had add random information so it didn't make sense. DD knows that some of our friends are visiting WDW this year and that I'm helping them ... so if I do slip up, I claim that its for another family. :goodvibes

Anyway, welcome aboard!

DH whined a lot the past two years about crowds ... and getting up early ... and making RD every AM ... :rotfl2:

I really want to plan this year more for him than anything - get rid of the main things he whined about. But if we end up mashed into a crowd, we'll follow a plan and make the best of it. We'll be at the Happiest Place on Earth! :cloud9:

Thank you for the reassurance!

sounds great, i'll have to add that to my ever growing list of Must Do's. I think i have just the place for it..

so what part of TN are you from?

I hope you get a chance to visit the characters!

I'm about 20 minutes south of Knoxville.

Last year, the first ride DD and I rode, the CM was from Lenoir City (which is roughly "next door" to us), so it gave us something to chat about while waiting.

So DD9 was diagnosed with asthma when she was very young.

I had thought she was outgrowing it, as she was only taking meds seasonally, and almost all of it was OTC meds (she had been off her nebulizer for a couple of years now).

However, this year, she's had it pretty rough. Just a couple of weeks ago, she had bronchitis. Today, she went back for an unrelated issue, and the doctor checked her air on the peak flow meter. She should be around 400, but was barely hitting 200 (it was about 215 to be more precise). So now she's having to use her nebulizer every 3-4 hours. They also added Pulmicort twice a day as well, and prescribed her an inhaler for school. They said after May, she can taper the Pulmicort off, and then spread the breathing treatments out until she's weened from them as well. (But if she starts weening and doesn't cope well without the meds, she'll go back on for another month before they try again.)

After May. Which means ... we'll have to pack the nebulizer and an inhaler for our trip. She doesn't use the inhaler very well, so she has to use a spacer.

Does anyone have any tips for making the best of things with an asthmatic child? :thumbsup2

In 2009, we let the kids buy autograph books at the resort for the parks.
In 2010, we allowed the kids to meet characters if little/no wait, but didn't bother with the books (no one wanted to carry them around - we didn't take a single bag into the parks all week).

Now it's 2011, and I'm having to make all the decisions myself (DH only wants to be involved if it will mean giving Uncle Walt more money).

I can't ask the kids what they'd like to do ... (if they want autograph books, they are in charge of keeping up with them) ... since they won't know about WDW until we arrive. Granted, if they want to get signatures, we could always buy the books onsite ... but I'd really like to make things more personal this year.

I'd love to make custom books (either myself or via a website) ... but I don't want to put forth the effort and the kids not want to keep up with them. (I don't blame them, I loved not having a purse on me last year!)

What would you do? Make a custom book personally? Make a custom book via website? Just let them purchase one onsite?

I booked Pirates League for DD and DS for our MK day (5/25). I hope that they can keep their makeup tidy long enough for them to watch (and hopefully participate) in the pirate tutorial. I wasn't really sure what a good time for the PL would be.

I tried to talk DH into doing one of the Segway tours ... but he doesn't want to shell out the funds for it. I think it would totally be worth it ... and I'm tempted to take one myself ... but I'm afraid that if I didn't stay with the kids, DH wouldn't get them to the parks at a reasonable hour. I don't expect us to make rope drop any day of the week ... but I do want to arrive within the first hour of park opening ... and I think if I left DH on his own with the kids, he'd show up after lunch ... if the kids were lucky. :lmao:

I wonder if I start watching Disney movies, if the kids will get suspicious. Everyone is doing movie-theme nights, and they look like soo much fun. I know the kids would love them, but I'm afraid they might figure out something is up.

Maybe if I did a few non-Disney movies in there as well they won't get suspicious? :confused3

Both of my kiddos have asthma. They take a preventive inhaler (flovent) once daily. I up it in the Spring and Fall to 2x a day. They also have a rescue inhaler (if needed) They haven't had any issues...thank goodness. They are also on singulair daily (you may want to ask about this for your DD). My DD had pneumonia 4 times in kindergarten. She has problems when doing the breathe test at the allergist. The dr. thinks she may have some scar tissue from all the bouts of pneumonia she had in the past. I just keep them on their singulair and DS on his preventative daily and haven't had any issues since starting the meds. DS was hospitalized with a severe asthma attack when he was 2 and also found out he has a severe peanut allergy at 13 months. We will be bringing our epi-pen along with all the other meds to Disney. It is difficult because the epi is supposed to be kept cool, but not frozen....we just keep juice boxes in the fridge at the resort and pack it around the pen everyday when we head to the parks and hope for the best.
So, you are not alone with having to take meds on vacation and having an asthmatic in the family.
Your planning is really coming along and still enjoy reading. :goodvibes
Keep up the great work!!!:thumbsup2

DD was originally on Singulair ... but our new insurance doesn't cover it for some reason. :confused3

DD has an inhaler, but insurance doesn't cover it either. (It seems that our insurance just doesn't want to cover anything.) It wasn't too expensive OOP with the 60 metered dose, and we figured 60 meters would be fine for keeping at school (she should only use it up to once a day at school). She does the nebulizer just fine, but can't figure out how to use the inhaler. Thankfully, we have a spacer for when she HAS to use the inhaler, otherwise, she'd never get the medicine. :(

She does Albuterol and Pulmicort in her nebulizer and takes Zyrtec (generic OTC) daily (with mucinex and/or cough syrup as needed). The inhaler is Ventolin.

I wasn't aware of the Epi-pens being kept cool. That's a neat trick on letting juice boxes keep it cool!

I'm just not sure how the best way to handle her asthma in the parks now. It had never been an issue before. We'll make it work, somehow.

Having a peanut allergy must be rough. Are they able to accommodate at WDW for your DS?

I'm very sorry to hear about pneumonia and attacks. It's definitely not fun. DD has been to the ER for treatment of pneumonia, but she's never been hospitalized for it. I hope that your little ones stay healthy and perhaps outgrow the asthma.

So ... today, I bought a new laptop! My old one was kinda broken ... The kids kept messing with it, and the charger broke, as well as half the keys are missing ... and it was just on its last limb anyway. I was afraid that it was completely gone, and that I had lost all my pictures ... however, it had enough life in it to allow me to put the pics on a flash drive, and now they're on the new laptop! :cheer2:

Once I figure out how to get pics uploaded, I'll recap our previous vacations with photos!

And for some reason, this new laptop doesn't like me typing ... it keeps jumping around. :headache:

Anyway, outside of upcoming stories and pics, not much else to say right now. :3dglasses

I guess I'll review (briefly, I hope) our previous food choices.

June 2009:
Rainforest Cafe - DELISH!
Epcot - Akershus with Princesses (I don't recall what was ordered, I just know I hated mine but loved DH's dish); QS dinner at resort
DHS - Hollywood & Vine - I was sick with sun poisoning, so I missed the meal; QS dinner at resort
MK - QS for lunch and dinner - Pinnochio for lunch, resort for dinner
AK - QS Yak & Yeti's (I will not eat there again, it was icky) Chef Mickey's for dinner - food was ... mediocre, but worth it for the kids
Wolfgang Puck - best food ever!
Grand Floridian Cafe - I had a steak, it was superb ... but service was soo bad, it really put me off from ever going back ... it was the worst service I've ever had at a dining establishment!!!! :sad2:

I didn't get any food pics in 2009 - mostly because I didn't eat much. :rotfl:

However, in 2010, I tried to get pics of all our meals.

April 2010:
I know I'm awful ... but we spent a week there, and it was a year ago, so I don't recall exactly what days we had what ... or exactly where all our meal credits went. :sad1:
Wolfgang Pucks - I had the Chef's Sampler Platter (as I did in 2009)
Disneyworld2010002.jpg

Kouzzina's - I had the Pastitsio and DH had the Fisherman's Stew. I took a before stir and after stir of my Pastitsio dish. It was unique, but very yummy! DH licked his bowl clean!
Disneyworld2010039.jpg

Disneyworld2010041.jpg

Disneyworld2010040.jpg

Epcot - Chefs de France - I had the Filet de Saumon - it was delicious, but didn't care for the rattatouie (personal preference, never had it before)

California Grill - no pics, and I don't recall what I had, but it was wonderful!!
DHS - Sci Fi Diner - I had the Beef & Blue Salad and it was sooooo yummy. I didn't take pics, so as not to disturb others around me

I have a few other odds and ends food pics, but didn't want to overwhelm anyone (ie desserts, and a few of DH's, but wasn't sure what it was).
