May 2010 Pre-Trip Report--Bay Lake Tower, here we come! *TR link posted! 6/8*

I've never experienced the tornadoes. Now, I've got hurricanes down.

It seems we have the smae plans for this weekend - cleaning.

Glad to hear that you are all safe. I watched the weather channel last night and saw that they were tornado watches and warnings out your way. My daddy was born and raised in Arkansas and was absolutely terrified of any kind of bad weather.

'Nuff talking about trivial things like the weather. Let's talk about you being excited about the Triple 2's!

I sure don't like tornado weather, either!

Triple 2's was fun to celebrate!:banana:

I can remember being terrified of tornadoes when I was little...and we have NEVER even had a tornado here! So I can only imagine living somewhere where that is actually a real threat.

:yay: For your countdown! :cheer2: I can't believe how quickly these trips are coming!

Yeah, they are pretty scary. 11 years ago two big ones came through back to back, pretty much. I was at my dorm in another town, but it hit my Grandma's house, taking the front porch into the back yard and doing some other damage to the back part of her house. We all pitched in to help clean up & my Dad & uncles fixed her a little "apartment" in her family room while they repaired the damage to her house. Advantage of having carpenters in the family! :thumbsup2

I love Disney countdowns! Pretty soon we'll be to 45 days!

Ooh, hurricanes are scary, too! I asked DH where can we move without having some kind of scary weather threats? We didn't come up with much.

Ah, cleaning! Can't wait.

YAY :yay: for the 2s! 2 months, 2 weeks, 2 days!

Thanks!

I thought the 2's were celebration worthy! :dance3:

Last weekend my sweet, awesome DH took me down to Little Rock to celebrate my 30th birthday. I was off work on Friday and busied myself doing lots of laundry, lots of dishes, and lots of scanning pictures. I was scanning pictures because there is an old wooden track bridge out near where I grew up that is being demolished and replaced with a new "improved" concrete bridge. Another bridge they've done that to is just ugly. Maybe I'll snap a picture of it next time I'm out that way so you can all agree with me! A couple of years ago, when we first heard it might happen I took our film camera down and got some shots of it.

I scanned the pictures into my computer so I could email them to some family members. First, I had to find the pictures, though and that took a bit! I also did a bit of yoga. About 2:00 I realized that I had not packed myself or the kids. I don't pack DH because I don't know what he wants to wear. I do pack his toiletries, though. (Is that too feminine a word to use for his stuff?) Anyway, I ended up only getting myself packed before it was time to get the kids from school. DH was trying to get off work early, but didn't end up getting done as early as he'd wanted. He still made it back home before we did, though. We had to go all the way across town to Wal-Mart for a couple birthday gifts. DD had a party to go to that night, and my nephew's party was on Saturday. We also stopped and fueled up before heading home. We quickly packed the rest of the way, loaded up Margot-puppy and took off for the kennel to drop her off. Next, we dropped DD off at her party. After dropping DS off at the in-laws' we finally were on our way to Little Rock. I don't think we checked in to our hotel until 7:00 or 7:30. :scared1: After we got out things situated, we met up with a couple of friends for dinner at Pei Wei! Anyone else love Pei Wei as much as I do? My friend Amy & I split the lettuce wraps, the crab wontons, and the Caramel Chicken. Yummy! We visited back at their house for a bit before heading back to the hotel for the night.

We later realized that we had left some things at home. Uh-Oh! What did we leave? Only a bag with all our other shoes and the toiletries bag! :scared1: Holy cow. Only the shoes on our feet and no make-up, no deodorant, no toothbrushes. :headache: DH went down to the front desk for toothbrushes and we made plans to go get everything else we needed Saturday morning.

...to be continued...

So it's Saturday morning and I realize I am going to have to leave the hotel room with no makeup. I also end up not really fixing my hair because there is only a limited amount of time DH can go without deodorant before he will have to take another shower. :) I put on my sunglasses and pull my hoodie's hood up over my head and venture out into public. :scared1: (I know it's pretty vain, right?) I felt so silly walking through the lobby. I just knew people were looking at me, thinking that I'm trying to pretend that I'm somebody! We make it to Target where I have to remove the sunglasses in order to choose just the right everything. I'm talking everything. At least it's stuff I would have eventually had to buy anyway. I also needed a new pair of shoes to wear out that night. I had driven down in my Uggs and they were not going to match the outfit I'd packed. We went back to our hotel so I could "fix up" and then off in search of shoes. The mall held no shoes for me that day. We left with me feeling pretty discouraged that I'd ruined our day. It was lunch time by then, so we set off in search of a Shoe Carnival and some lunch. We had lunch at a Schlotzsky's Deli. We don't have one of those in my town. We used to get Schlotzsky's in Branson, MO, but since theirs shut down, we haven't had it. It's been too long. Schlotzsky's made everything better. That, and there was a Shoe Carnival nearby. I found some cute gold flats and we went across the street for some yummy Cold Stone! :thumbsup2 This was shaping up to be the best birthday ever!

While we were eating our Cold Stone, my friend Ashley called. They were in town & we were going to pick them up at their hotel. We finished up at Cold Stone, giving Ashley & her DH, Jeff, time to check in and get ready for the rest of the day.

We had plans to meet up with some more friends, John & Amy (a different Amy from last night) to tour the Diamond Bear Brewery at 3:00. After the tour John & Amy went to check in to their hotel while the rest of us went to DH & my hotel so I could change clothes. Ashley & I left our DHs at the hotel bar while we went upstairs. After I changed we went to check out a little parlor area I'd been wanting to see & found the most beautiful balcony! We snapped a few pictures in case the guys didn't want to come back up.

We were successful, however, in convincing them to come upstairs while we waited for John & Amy. Our hotels were in the downtown area and we were going out to the River Market that night, so we were all walking! A couple more shots from the balcony:

We went out that night and had some drinks, some food, some dancing, and lots of fun! Here's a picture of Amy, me, & Ashley. I added sunglasses to the girls because they are just cool that way! (And I don't know that they'd want me plastering their faces all over the DIS)

And that was my birthday weekend! We had lots of fun!

Sounds like you had a pretty good birthday weekend! I love Coldstone! When I lived in Pittsburgh, I used to go to a Curves there (women only exercise place) and downstairs from Curves was a Coldstone...it was like torture to have to walk past it each time I went to work out! I had to make sure I left my wallet at home so I would not be tempted...

Ooh, hurricanes are scary, too! I asked DH where can we move without having some kind of scary weather threats? We didn't come up with much.

I think the same thing when I see all the crazy weather people get! I think here in Erie, PA we have it pretty good...the worst we get is lots of snow. No tornadoes, no hurricanes, no earthquakes, no floods...the worst snow can do is make you cold!

It sounds like you had a great time! SOrry to hear about the forgotten items. I am always afraid of doing something like that. The worst we have done is Bryan forgot his tennis shoes one time. We stopped in Ocala at some sports store to get him some new tennis shoes.

You see, we are cool with the hurricanes. We know they're coming, and we always leave with plenty of time to get out of the way. We don't live an are that is considered to be a flood zone, so we are fine there. Tornadoes freak me out because you can't prepare for them.

It sounds like you had a fun, birthday weekend trip. :) COLD-STONE----YUMMY--I love it. I always order the strawberry shortcake! :thumbsup2

Mmmmm, Cold Stone!!! Love that place but so sad they closed the one around here. :sad2:

Glad you had a good birthday weekend!

Sounds like you had SUCH a fun birthday!! That's awesome. I can't believe how close you are getting to your trip! It is going to be here so soon!! AHHHH!!!!

That would be torture. It would be so easy to say, "I deserve a treat after my workout." :lmao:

DH would be up for living in PA, I think! Go Steelers! :goodvibes

As long as I don't do it going to Disney, I'll be fine! :rotfl:

Nope, you can pretty much just hide from them. :sad2:

I had vanilla with Butterfinger. :goodvibes

I'm glad we don't have one in our town...I'd be over there way too much! :lmao:

We really had a great time! Yup! I'm getting reallllly excited!

What a fun weekend despite the fact that you had to go toiletry and shoe shopping!

Yes, it was! And I got some cute new shoes out of it!

Here are some things I'm starting to think about for our trip...it's getting closer & closer!

  • Garden Grocer
I've been doing a bit of informal research on their service. It's beginning to look like we'll be using it for the 1st time on our trip. We usually bring some breakfast items like Pop Tarts and Special K cereal bars, bottled water, fruit snacks, etc. with us in the car. I'm not planning on cooking much, if any. However, with the kitchen we'll have this year, I'm planning on having a bit more cold food around (milk, yogurt, etc.) But I'd need to buy those things after we get there. I could just buy it all when we arrived instead of lugging the other things. THEN, I thought, "I shouldn't waste Disney time grocery shopping!" :scared1: Which led me to look in to a grocery delivery service.
  • Clothes Shopping
We usually have to get the kids new summer clothes anyway. A Disney trip is a great excuse to get some new things for everyone! :goodvibes We've gotten Allison started with some new Converse. She promises not to wear them until Disney World:

    20100317_23.jpg

That's how she chose to fill in the blanks!

  • Miscellaneous Shopping
This is purchasing things like sunscreen, GermX, & other travel sized-things. :thumbsup2
  • Packing!
DD got a cute new suitcase from her Grandma for Christmas. It's a bit bigger than her old one, but she's growing, too, so it was definitely needed. DS will be using a bit bigger suitcase this year, too. We'll have to decide which ones we're taking and have a practice run of loading all that into our car!

Max has also made his decision regarding the Richard Petty Driving Experience and has changed it to a Ride Along. We're still going to head over there on the morning of our pool day, however. That leaves our *extra* day a nice, wonderful, peaceful, relaxing, blank day. :yay: For the time being, that is!

Here is that *ugly* new bridge. This is what's in store for the bridge I posted pictures of before, I'm afraid:

:shamrock: :shamrock: Happy St. Patrick's Day! :shamrock: :shamrock:

Hi B! I love Cold Stone too! YUM! Sounds like you had a fun birthday weekend! :woohoo:

One day with no plans sounds magical to me...I'd probably find something to ruin it though. My OCD kicks into overdrive and I can't have a blank day. :lmao:

I LOVE THOSE CONVERSE!!!! How awesome are they?!?!

I think we are all in the same boat right now...figuring out what we need to get, what we already have, etc.

I'm glad to hear that Max decided what to do with the RPDE. I'm glad also that you get a blank day! What fun!

Yeah...the bridge isn't too attractive.

We used Garden Grocer last year and were very very pleased with them. It was nice not to drive to the store, shop in an unfamiliar store, put our bags to the car and then haul the groceries to the resort room. Well worth the delivery fee Garden Grocer charged.

I love the Converse tennis shoes. Lacey bought some white Converse one year and had all of her friends in youth group draw on them. They ended up being so cute.

Just to chime in a bit here:
~The weather this year has been crazy for almost everyone. We are in VA and usually have 1 snow day but this year we had 7! Yep, 7. So, they are working on taking away Spring Break days, making the kids attend Saturday school or extending the school year.....none are good choices as far as i'm concerned!
~I am so happy that you got your DVC! I have been begging for one for a while but we just cant do it now.
~I love your VB bag, my sister has the same one and swears by it!
~The pictures of packing the Prius are amazing, I don't have that kind of mind so its a mess when we travel!
~I love the thought of a pool day! I asked DH if we could have one and he said that we live next to a water park so why waste a day in a pool on vacation! I guess thats true. We live right by Water Country USA and Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Our summers are spent between the parks! We are lucky to have the Military put us right here!!!
~MmMmMmMmMm Cold Stone, Cake Batter ice cream...need I say more?!?!?!
~OMG, I freakin love the shoes! I want a pair for myself! I grew up in Converse!!! Those are fantastic.
~I love the shirts. We found an outlet on one of our trips to PA. They sell WDW stuff that has either been discontinued or didn't sell well. They also sell items with previous years stamped on them. Last year I stopped there and bought all types of shirts and stuff for almost nothing. I also got my Pirate Princess watch that I had seen in DTD! Got it for 15 bucks! Great place for anyone up that way!

I can't wait to hear more PTR as well as the TR once you get home! As far as the groceries go, no idea here. Ive only been to WDW once and we only ate breakfast on our room

I love the shoes! They are too cute!

I have read about Garden Grocer, but have never needed to use it! With my SIL right there in Orlando, she is our Garden Grocer! We send her our grocery list and she brings it to us at the hotel!

I love shopping for vacation! And packing! I have picked up a few things for the trip, but not too much yet...I can't wait to get a bit more serious about it!

Happy belated birthday!

Those Converse sneakers are so great! Hehe, I'd put Disney World on one side and HowWeird on the other ;)
