I have no idea at the moment what would be considered as a good flight price for direct from manchester.

I've found this today and was wondering if it's any good

US Airways direct £339 per person

Would be a great price if direct but USairways don't fly direct(unless they have a new route for next year)
What you have maybe seen is a route with same flight number thru from MAN~MCO, shows up on many systems as direct but in reality is 1 stop.
Where you seen it? I will have a look.

Its a stop in Philly each way.
If direct then flight times will show around 8-9 hours this one shows 12h 25m & 10h 35m
So Continental would be cheaper at £311, cheapest direct Virgin at £532

Also be aware that even though the flight may be shown as direct, there may be a need to change aircraft completely!! I noticed this on another search tool for seat availability which made exactly this point. Strangely, this only applied to the MCO-PHL-MAN flight, the outward journey was shown as being the same aircraft all the way through :confused3

Might appear to be same but you have to change planes with all these type of flights both ways. There are no scheduled airline routes with the same plane all way thru with a stop from Manchester.
What has happened to us a couple times is we have bought a long time from travelling been given the 1 flight number all way thru but then nearer the time given an internal flight number. These do appear on some systems as direct until you click on flight details.

US airways
US735 Man-Phil dep 11:00, arr Phl 13:45, aircraft Airbus A330-300
US 707 Phl to MCO Dep 18:15 arr MCO 20:55 Aircraft Airbus A321

There are other flights from Philadelphia, such as 20:40, 15:55

We've booked US735 when we go next April. Although it's the same flight number, it's definitely two separate flights on 2 different aircraft, changing in Philly.

We always fly US Airways, so if you have any questions about them, feel free to ask!

Hello I am a newbie, my name is Claire I have been reading these boards for a while and have fount them to be a wealth of information, so I thought I would sign up especially as I have read this post from Juliebro :thumbsup2 I am flying with US Airways for the first time and want to know everything lol I have never flown indirect before always straight from MAN to MCO with Virgin but I got a brilliant price with US Airways for the first 2 weeks in August (with me being a Teacher, term time is out of the question so we always get the dearest times of the year) I did panic though they cancelled my return flight about 5 week ago so now we are staying for 16 nights :woohoo::woohoo: I love collecting Pins and Beanies and anything Eeyore :goodvibes

Anyhow enough about me here are my questions for Juliebro, also please feel free to add anything to sell me the airline I have never used these before and am a little nervous :thumbsup2

What the food like?
Is there much leg room (my bf is 6" 4)
How much luggage are you allowed 20-25 KGS per person??
Transfer between planes I am panicking about losing my luggage between flights whats the chances of this happening lol!!

Welcome Claire
Not flown with US for a few years now but just found you luggage info http://www.usairways.com/awa/Conten...vel_information/baggage_policies/default.aspx
You are allowed 2 x 23kg per person same as Virgin and BA. The chart shows fees for 1st and 2nd bags but transatlantic flights are exempt.

How long is your change? over half of our flights below have been indirect, thankfully never a problem but the odd ones do go missing, Theres a moderator(Reid) out the now his luggage took an extra day to get to him. sometimes if you only have a quick change your luggage can get delayed but as I say its never happed to us. Its very rare anyone posts about lost or delayed luggage.

Hi Claire,

We always spread our clothes among the suitcases we are taking with us, even on direct flights, just in case one bag goes missing.

Would also suggest taking some "essentials" in your hand baggage as a further fallback just in case.

I have flown quite frequently using connecting flights via airports in Europe and the Middle East (not frequently enough to Florida unfortunately :sad2:), and have only once had a bag go missing. On these trips, I generally take a small "cabin" suitcase with a change of clothes for a day or two, and check-in a similar case with the remainder of my belongings.

Hi Claire,

Was out last night so have only just seen your questions.

The food is OK - typical airline food in my experience. Edible, but not exactly haute cuisine.

Leg room is never really a problem for me - I'm barely 5' 2" - DH is 5'10" and manages ok but if you think your bf may have a problem, you could ask at check-in whether they could give you bulkhead seats on the transatlantic leg. We asked at Easter, and they said that it might be possible, but to check at the gate. They keep those seats back for people with small children etc. DH asked at the gate and we were able to swap to bulkhead seats. The flight wasn't full which helped. So we had plenty of room. We did the same on the return transatlantic flight too.

Wayne has already given you the details of the luggage allowances, but if you have any more specific questions, let me know.

We had a case go missing once. It didn't get put on the onward flight to MCO form Philly, but US Airways just arranged for it to be delivered to the house we were staying in. It was in the porch the following morning when we got up.

As previous posters have suggested, we also split our clothes across two or three suitcases in case we only get one bag back.

The in-flight entertainment systems are quite good - with individual seatback screens. You can use them like a personal video player and rewind, pause fast-forward etc.

Lots of details are available on the US Airways website, even including the films that will be available when you're onboard.

Hope that helps.

Also - one thing I should mention. The cabin crew tend to be a little more mature than you would expect to see on UK airlines - and sometimes more informal.

Another thing - when you arrive at Philly on the way over there, you will need to go through immigration, collect your bags, go through customs, give your bags back and then go through security. This can take a while if the airport is busy. There is no 'fast track' for anyone whose flight is about to take off. You're there as long as it takes.

My advice is to stay relaxed, go with the flow, and get to the gate as soon as you can. If you do miss the onward flight, there is almost definitely another flight to MCO within an hour or two.

On the way home, your bags are checked right through to MAN and you don't have the immigration etc, so it is a lot quicker.

HIYA Wayne wow your allowed 2 23kg suitcases per person thats excellent, I had saved and extra £150 for excess baggage as I assumed it would only be one per person! I am sure I will find something to spend that money on:thumbsup2

Our flight changes are 4 hours going, this is my fault I wanted to make sure that we had enough time to get through security and everything, we could have booked the flight before which was 1 hour 20 minutes which I thought would be extremely tight! Going home it is 1 hour 45 between flights which I was still panicing about but I read that there would be only security check with luggage and what not!:goodvibes

I think I will split our clothes between the cases just to be on the safe side though, but my mind has been a lot now I know it is a rarity:thumbsup2

Thank you for replying Wayne:goodvibes

HIYA Julie That helps no end, thank you so much I will definitely enquire about the bulkhead seats, I love going to America I look forward to it every year we are staying at OKW this time, I aim to stay at every single Disney hotel at WDW 4 down 17 to go :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for replying to me:goodvibes

Me again Julie sorry for bothering you, if we sailed through security and what not at Philadelphia and an earlier flight was available would we be able to jump on that plane if we were ready, we have 4 hours from arriving in Philadelphia to taking off to Orlando?

Highly unlikely. You could ask at the desk, but I suspect they would say no. We have had a 4 hour stopover a few times. By the time you get off the plane, though immigration, collect your bags, go through customs, drop off your bags again, go through security, get something to eat and drink, have a wander round the shops, and walk to the terminal for the next flight you may find you've not really got that long to wait.

We are doing BHX-PHL-MCO purely because its cheap. Its £3,000 overall cheaper than virgin.
They may not be the best airline but its a means to an ends and get to go back to WDW.
