2 questions...

1. From whom did you recieve the email about the Disney Visa code? (and why didn't I get one )

2. I have a DV but have already paid in full. (Did not use DV.) Will I still be able to use the code?

I don't know, but I do know that my DH pays our bill monthly on line (no balance) so they have our email address and we often get updates this way.

Of course maybe the reason I got it and not others is laws of average. We have DVC and AP so this code does not help us at all. I have been on this thread looking for a friend who needs codes to go with us on the next trip. I don't have enough DVC points for them (heck only have enough for a studio for us.)

Just as an FYI, I just got the Disney Visa email tonight, while others got their emails before this.

Also, the sender was "Disney Rewards".

Keeping fingers crossed for decent AP rate to come out on Thursday for our dates and resort Couldn't care less about waterpark or hopper upgrades, those are cheapies for Disney.

From what I read on the other thread, the current Visa offer gives you the water parks and more option included on your ticket. So, are you going to use these? If so, then figure out the cost you'd spend to go to the water parks or pleasure island or whatever "more" option you'd choose and see if it's really worth it...You might do better with an AAA discount...

thanks Marshay. I'm NOT going to use the hopper or water parks+ for this short trip... and I already have the AAA discount so I'll pass! I'll just hang on by a thread waiting to see if there's a code so I can afford AKL instead of POR for the family! I'm wishing as hard as I can!

I've never booked, and then had to apply a code through AAA. I do know that the number of discounts are usually limited..so you have to get on it pretty quickly. Meaning you can't be waiting days for an agent to call you back..that sort of thing. You've got to me on this like "white on rice" ..so to speak. However when a reservation is made as a package through AAA, it's only the agent that can change it, you can't do it yourself. I would contact your agent now..and let them know that you want them checking for a discount code, and anticipate that there may be one for the time period you are going, and you do the same. I'm sure someone else with actual experience with booking AAA will be along to give you more info.

Like I said in my last post Mother's Day is May 11th. I don't know if that would be the reason. I'm not concerned about it being overly crowded looking at the park hours. Most nights (except for the weekend) the MK closes at 9pm

Apparently, there's a marathon 5/2-5/4, a triathalon 5/10-5/11, AND a trail running and bike race on 5/10 so perhaps that's why. Lucky us, that's when we'll be in town.

I just got off too - CM said the same -code would be avail. to the public on Thursday. For some people this will be a good deal - for others maybe not so much - we have AAA so it's about break even as we lose our AAA room discount but for others it can be as much as $100 per person off their pkg. if they're paying rack rate already

how do you know for sure it'll be a break even proposition - is Disney's code always that same % as AAA's? (I have a AAA room discount for POR and AKL for my family - well the whole pkg but they only discount the room itself.)

any insight on that?

I'm hoping the public code comes out on Thursday as well! The last pin code they sent me through the mail didn't work on the days we are going to be there!

Do you have to buy a MYW package to get the free upgrade on the tickets which means you have to stay on-site or can you get the upgrade by just buying the tickets only? I would have to think about that. We were looking forward to staying off-site this time and spreading out in a suite (or maybe a condo), but if the upgrade requires a package, then we might think about going back to Pop Century. Decisions, decisions!

I had another thought. Could we stay on-site for around 3 days and off-site for the remainder of our stay, but still buy 8 day passes as part of a MYW package with the free parkhopper & more upgrade?

You do have to book a package at a WDW resort to receive the ticket upgrades.

You might want to check on that. I believe some other threads were saying there is now a 4 night minimum, as opposed to 3 nights that has been offered in the past.

This is where it sometimes gets confusing on discounts - you have to crunch the numbers. It's not that Disney's code is the same % as AAA's - you just have to compare to see which one is saving you more.

With AAA at POR you are probably getting 15% off your room rate each night - at AKL I think you get 10% off every night (it's a different % off for moderates and Deluxes that time of year). Figure up how much you're saving with AAA. Then figure how much you're saving with the Disney deal - take how many people you are getting tickets for on your package and multiply that by $100 - $100 is about what you are saving per person by getting PH/WP upgrade for free. Then compare that number against what you are saving with AAA.

The other thing you have to consider is ( let's add to confusion ) is if you would normally buy or use the Park Hopper option or Water parks. If you don't normally buy or use the PH/WP option than the Disney deal probably isn't for you. We will only be there a week in May so we won't be using the Water Park option (we'd rather be at the other parks) so I wouldn't buy the WP option anyways - we do buy and use the Park Hopper though - because of all that I'm really only saving about $50 per person (the value of a PH)

So to do a comparison with my family - I am saving an average of about $25 a night with AAA so for our 7 night stay thats - $175 - with the Disney deal I'm saving about $50 a person (not $100 because we didn't want/ wouldn't purchase the WP feature) so anyways that's $50 x 4 people in my family = $200 - so, I'm saving about $25 if I go with Disney instead of AAA - so almost a break even. If I thought we would use the WP, I probably would go with Disney - figure for the same amt. of money I get the WP thrown in but since we won't use it I probably will just keep AAA.

For most families (3 or more people) who are already purchasing the PH/WP option the Disney deal probably is better than AAA especially if they're staying at a value or mod. for a shorter stay but if someone is staying at a Deluxe for a longer stay the AAA discount would probably be better (especially if they're a couple - no kids- or wouldn't purchase PH/WP anyways)

Whew........... I bet this is way more info. than you wanted! Having said all that though - the easiest thing to do is have Disney price out your pkg. with the deal and then compare it to your AAA total - then go with the one that gives you the most!

That's us too. We were thinking of going down the 1st week of May and really leaning towards staying in a vacation home. (Having a 7 month old along, it seems like that would be more relaxing than 1 hotel room.)

But now with the free ticke upgrade, I don't know.....DD was wanting to go to Blizzard Beach....and dh were talking about how cool it'd be to jump over to Epcot to see Illuminations......but the house would be roomier and not have to worry about the baby being up at night.....
crap, I'm driving myself batty over a trip we hadn't decided for sure on!

Well I took the plunge and went with the disney visa offer for the ticket upgrade. Altough we won't use the waterpark option we didn't save very much money for 2A&2C. We have been to disneyquest before and we didn't find it worth our time. I was going to purchase an AP for a room discount but after crunching numbers last night(assumming their the same rates at last yr)it came to be around the same price. SO this is what we got
2A 2C 10 day hopper/waterpark 11 nites at the All star sports total 2157$.
Were chose to stay at a value this yr because we spend 90% of our time at the parks and we don't come back for naps/swim in the daytime so were going to save our money for our Disneyland trip in November(that why were not purchasing AP)
It does feel good to finally have something booked
Now if I can only get over this cold/sinus infection

not sure if this helps, but you can always book a ft. wilderness cabin (pricey, but a discount would help)...we did that for our first trip with my 3 2 y.o.s for that same reason....i was SO worried that their night time wake ups (and occasional going-to-bed crying) would be a problem for our neighbors if we stayed in a reg. resort. the extra room was GREAT for helping them sleep and giving DH and i more space during their nap/bedtime hours. big kitchen, housekeeping services, a deck to sit out in the evening to watch the stars and have a drink...it is no longer my first choice of resorts (too much of a hassle for us with the triplet stroller and internal buses), but that extra room was great for our needs that trip!

Just called the Travel agent this morning and she said it would be cheaper to keep the room discount and buy tickets through AAA than using the Disney Visa offer. I already have one ticket (the last time we were there they never asked for my DD ticket (she was 4 1/4 at the time), so we still have her ticket (8) so I just have to buy 3 tickets 2 adults, 1 child. So, we'll be there on May 2-10! Can't wait!
