May 2008 code watch

but we're planning to go in May of 2009 (can't swing the May trip this year!) and I was curious when all of you booked your trip for this year. How early can I start my planning? Thank you so much, and enjoy May for the rest of us! I love Disney World in May!

I booked in October, but had been loosely planning since May. Now I'm getting into full blown planning mode!:surfweb:

Does anyone know if Memorial Day Weekend has fallen subject to "blackout dates" in the past for AP discounts? :confused3 We went last year, but stayed via DVC, so it wasn't applicable. If it IS blacked out, I guess we could do the same thing again this year. I'd just love to get a nice code for a value or mod since it's a quick trip.

I called yesterday about President's Day Wknd (Feb) and was advised that those are blackout dates. :sad2: We weren't actually planning a trip - I just have the fever cuz it's been a few months! :rotfl:

We were there last year from Friday before to Saturday after and got AP rates. We are going again this year, so hope not.

I booked flights yesterday for my 1st solo trip! I will be going May 5th - 9th :cool1: I have not booked a room yet, probably go with AAA discount & hope for a good AP discount.

How fun tinknme! I want to take a solo trip, but it will have to wait a few years. Let us know how it goes!!

Ya Hoo !!!!! You'll love your solo trip...I do one yearly..next one in May too...7-21 !!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

I saw that AP rates can only be used when there is an AP holder in the room, does the same apply for FL resident discounts? For some reason I thought I had read on here that one of the discounts was good for booking up to 4 rooms. My mom is taking a bunch of us down in may and we'll have 4 rooms total so i would love to help her get a discount. (I'm a FL resident and AP holder, nobody else is except my DH)

For some reason, my subscription to this thread (using the "Thread Tools" above) isn't sending me emails when there is a new reply. So, I am posting in the hopes this works for notification!

I can't wait any longer for some type of code/discount for the end of May! The waiting is getting to me. I haven't booked airfare yet because the airlines that are offering good fares are only on sale through May 20th and of couse were leaving the 21st of may.I'm sure in a few wks they'll add more dates to the discount. Any one eles out there in the same boat.

Me...we leave the 22nd. I am dying to book my airfare, but I am waiting for a good deal. Already have ressies for POFQ, but hoping for some kind of code/discount.

We don't have AAA, is it worth it to purchase AAA to get a discount for May? I guess I'm not that familiar with the typical AAA discount. We are going in early May, just booked the airfare yesterday...so I know the dates, but have not decided on a resort yet. Origionally thought we may spring for a delux but now are considering a moderate or even a value as we have some home updates that need to be done.

Thoughts? Or, should we consider just waiting to see if the AP rate is good and going that route? Are you still able to buy an AP for your child if they are staying in the room and get the rate? I think we did this several years back and were still able to save money.

From what I know, only one person staying in the room needs to have the AP to get the AP discount. You could find out what the AAA rate is, and compare it to the other discounts that might come out. I don't have AAA, and I am glued to the discount thread waiting for something to be announced.

There are a few codes floating around, a 40% off the room is a nice one, but this year a lot of dates are not included in the 40% off. (May for example).

There may be a code coming out soon. Read the other threads on the codes and rates boards, some saying they got ticket upgrades, some getting emails and postcards in the mail. It is possible to switch the code you want to use if something better comes out, but you can usually only use one. (make sure you can use the "new" discount before you cancel the one you already applied). Just do the math on the discounts you see, and figure out what works best for you, based on the vacation you want (for example, the waterpark plus upgrade perk would not be a value if you aren't planning to do the waterpark plus options).
There is still plenty of time, have fun planning!!:goodvibes

I have an AP but booked PC for May 5th - 9th with a AAA 15% room discount. If a better discount comes out with the AP I will switch over to that, if not at least I have the 15%!

Good luck with your decision :wizard:

I bought a AAA membership for around $95 for hubby and me in November JUST to get a discount. My AAA discount for 6n/7d at WL for the end of May/early June, plus 7 day park hopper family of four (13 yo dd counts as an adult) saved me about $300 (10%) with AAA. I also booked my hotel prior to going on my cruise and I saved $40 on the Hyatt Airport for one night with AAA. So it was worth it to me to join. And guess what? My battery died yesterday picking my 9 yo ds after school and I called AAA and they took care of everything for me in less than 45 mins! Thankfully battery was under warranty with dealership. So got to use AAA for the emergency breakdown.

We live in AZ, therefore wouldn't get enough use out of annual pass, plus of course can't get the Fl resident discount passes. This was the best deal I could find for us after a lot of research.

You need to have an adult AP to get the discount now. They made changes last year. You used to be able to book 3 rooms on one AP but now you need an AP holder in each room.

The great thing about AAA is that you can book the room with a discount much earlier than Disney releases other discounts. You may find that AAA offers other discounts you can use too. I can get a coupon book at a local outlet mall with my AAA card-that usually pays for the annual membership and it really is worth well more the cost of annual membership if you ever need their emergency services.

I have AAA and always can save enough in various discounts (particularly hotel stays, not necessarily WDW) :wizard: to more than cover the cost of membership. However, as I understand it, the number of rooms available at WDW resorts for the AAA price is limited, so you may want to verify availability of this rate for your dates before you get AAA (if you are only getting it for WDW).:wizard:

I remember reading somewhere that you can only get 1 room per AP holder. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes this is a fairly new policy. I believe they started it in the fall.

Before this, an AP holder could book 3 rooms under the AP discount; now an AP holder themselves have to be booked into the room in order to get a discount.

DH and I each have APs, so for our trip in May, he's booked into 1 room, while I am booked in the room with my aunt who doesn't have an AP, just so we can get the AP discount if one comes out. Of course, I'll actually be in the room with my DH, but on paper, I'm in our aunt's room.

05/17/2008 - 05/24/2008 for us!!! We will probably be staying at Pop Century, unless a discount "magically" appears :wizard:
