May 2008 code watch

we're actually going april 27 - may 2. we rented points at SSR for those 5 nights, but i want to add on another night with my AP rate. can't wait for january/february to see what that rate will be!

i'm an AP newbie and have a few questions.

1. what's the "usual" AP rate for DVC resorts this time of year? the night we're adding is a friday night if that makes a difference (may 2nd).

2. the only blackouts they have are around holidays, right?

2. should i go ahead and book a room at SSR at the regular "disney" price just to be safe? i wasn't sure if they actually have to rebook the room when i call with the AP code or if they just take my existing reservation and change the price.

thanks.......sorry to bog down the thread with questions. i figured you guys would know! :goodvibes

Well, last night I booked AKL from May 4-11, and the Polynesian from May 11-18. I'm very, very excited! We're doing the Deluxe Dining Plan, and we'd love to do an Illuminations cruise this time around. I was wondering if Star Wars weekends will be going on during our stay or not? Anyway, I'll now join all of you in keeping a close eye on this thread!

Joining in on this code watch too........I'm a "member" of the April watch thread, but we might have to push our trip back a month. Fingers crossed!!

I don't think anyone ever answered your questions.

1. The last few discounts have been $110 off per night, but I don't remember about that time of year, specifically.

2. There are no blackout dates for a regular AP, only Florida Resident AP and/or seasonal passes.

3. If you really want that night, I would go ahead and book it. If a discount comes out, they do NOT apply it to the existing reservation, but if they have that same type room available at the discount, they will re-book it and apply what you have paid and refund the difference. If you have AAA maybe they have AAA room avail, doesn't hurt to ask.

thanks so much for answering my questions! i think i'm going to book the room for that last night sometime next week (when i get the extra $200 to spend!). thanks again!

Just hoping for some type of discounts so I can talk DH into going to Disney instead of US/IOA.

My mom just told me she wants to plan a family reunion type trip in April. I'm trying to convince her to switch to early May because of the crowds and I think it's working. So - hopefully I'll be there the first week or so!! :cool1:

I am planning to go May 29 - June 2, to celebrate my son's 4th birthday. It will be just the two of us.

I'm planning for May 26th - June 4th so I can celebrate my son's 4th birthday (5/27) and my....uh.....29 and holding for a couple years birthday (6/3).

Thinking of just celebrating his birthday a week earlier (arriving two weeks earlier) to avoid the crowds though. Holiday birthdays are SUCH a pain to celebrate - my daughter's birthday is always within two weeks of Easter so I get hit twice in a row trying to plan stuff around everyone else's vacations!

We are going May 7th-14th. With the 12th being my husband and I's 1 year anniversary. I think we will probably be staying in the POP.

I'm new to the boards, does anyone know when the codes do come out?

Hoping to find a great deal....haven't been in a long time and I am suffering from Disney withdrawl.

welcome to the DIS!!! what i've heard is to look for them about 3 months prior to the date. so for may that would be february. don't know how correct that is......that's just what i've heard.

So if I don't want to wait that late to book, I just kind of miss out? or can they be applied after I book?

Sorry I'm just confused :) I didn't even know there were codes out there!

Actually I changed our trip to May 15 - May 20. I wanted to avoid the crowds as well. It was cheaper to go at this time so I spent the money I saved on an extra night.

my understanding is if you go ahead and book, then the AP rates come out later, you just call them and they will take your AP rate and refund you the difference. if you're booking a whole package (room, park tickets and/or DDP), it only costs $200 down anyway and you don't have to pay the balance until 45 days out from your reservation. if you're booking a room only right now, then i think they charge you one night's rate when you book and then you pay the balance later. hope that helps!
