Hey everyone, I can't believe DD and I leave in just 4 weeks!:cool1:

Congrats to all the new Cat 9 folks! What a lovely bit of pixie dust to get you ready and excited.:yay:

First, I got a call yesterday morning that my 82 y.o. mom was taken to the emergency room due to fluid in her lungs and around her heart. She is still the hospital but her condition has been stabilized. Later that day, as a stroke of luck, I dug out the passports and was explaining what they were all about to my DS9. Upon closer examination, I noticed that his passport had expired last October. :scared1: Then I checked our DD's and it had expired as well. If there is any good news, I called DCL and they will accept a valid birth certificate. However, it could get messy if there was an emergency and we had to fly home. And lastly, the fake pin issue has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Sooooo.. Just 32 days to go... :yay:
Zerog, I'm sorry to hear about your mother. I hope she's okay.

Btw, as someone who's been going back and forth over borders for many years now (my mom lived in the States), I think you'll be okay with the birth certificates, particularly if it's an emergency that's bringing you home.

Working on gifts for the fish extenders. Any suggestions? Still need to know how many I will need.....
Welcome to the FE list, my4bratz. Ashlotte and I seem to be tag-teaming the list, and I believe it's my turn now. I'll have an updated list in my next post.

Hi everyone, here's the updated list. There's still lots of time to join the group, so just let us know and we'll add you.

If you see any question marks next to your name, could you pm Ashlotte or me with the info we need? Also, Spencer4hire (my dear college roommate and lifelong friend) suggested that if anyone has an allergy that the group needs to be aware of, please let us know. That needs to go on the list, too, since some of the gifts might be food.

Thanks for posting the list again, I am going to start my shopping today!!! Looks like we are having a major PARTY on Deck 2!!!! I didn't realize there were so many of us on that deck! :cheer2::cheer2:

I'm starting to get a little concerned about our cabin. I noticed most people are in the lower decks and no one is on deck 5. Once again, I turn to our seasoned cruisers to ask....Are we going to like cabin 5010 or should I be worried?
I had requested an area that might be "safer" for motion sickness, just in case and left it to the DCL person to pick an appropriate room for us. Can anyone share some pros and cons? Thanks Mayniacs!

On our DVC Member cruise in Oct 2007, this was our fish extender.

Disney Cruise Line - Stateroom 5010 Report

Ship: Disney Magic Stateroom: 5010 Condition: 4
Deck: 5 Category: 8 Location: Forward
Sail Date: 01/15/05

This room was nice. It was in a quiet location. The only time we heard the Walt Disney Theater was if we were in the room during the late show. If you have children that will be sleeping before 9:30pm, this room is not for you. When the show was going on, you can hear every word. Otherwise, great location, a bit more movement than mid ship but it dod not bother us.

Ship: Disney Magic Stateroom: 5010 Condition: 5
Sail Date: 06/24/06

This stateroom was very nice! The room was not noisy at all! With the port hole it had a great view of the different ports and the ocean at the day at sea! There are 4 people in my family and we had plenty of room..more room than expected!

Ship: Disney Wonder Stateroom: 5010 Condition: 5
Sail Date: 08/31/08

Was a bit concerned about noise and being far forward, but never had a problem with either. Location was convenient, never heard a peep from the WDT. Room was in great condition.

Below are the last two reviews for your stateroom. This whole motion sickness discussion rears its head yet again. It totally depends on who you talk to as to where you should be for less motion....I could speak with 10 different cruisers and they all recommend something different.

That being said, you should make sure you are prepared, best recommendation I have so far is to take Bonine (or the like) a few days ahead of your cruise and continue throughout and a few days after for best results. It apparently does not make you drowsy, time will tell on that one. I have many clients that use that particular brand and they swear by it, saying that the gravol etc. helps with the sickness but makes you drowsy (and even worse if you are drinking alcohol). I am counting on their expertise!!!

Thank you Zerog for the link.
I think what I'm trying to ask is (again, for future reference), is deck 5 overall desirable or are there more advantages to being lower in the ship? Would it be better in the future to request a different location? Thanks again!

Thank you Laura!
Have you by chance noticed during your research of cruises a pattern regarding "highly desirable" locations? Again, I find it highly desirable to JUST BE GOING on a cruise in 30 days!!:lmao:
Just thought I'd check with everyone in case we find out we want to do this again soon (and the bonus is it gives us a chance to get closer to page 100):woohoo:

Glad I could help.

From what I've heard, lower and center is the best place for the motion-sensitive. However, I don't think there is much difference between deck 2 and deck 5; at least, not enough to raise an issue.

popcorn:: I called DCL today and the movies change month to month. They could not tell me for sure what would be showing in May. Unfortunately, I was told that Wall-E will not be playing. Nonetheless, here is the list I was given: popcorn::
  • College Road Trip
  • Swing Vote
  • Enchanted
  • Beverly Hills Chihuahua
  • Morning Light
  • Hannah Montana 3D
  • Bolt 3D
  • High School Musical 3
  • Confessions of a Shopaholic
  • Jonas Bros 3D
  • Race to Witch Mountain
  • Bedtime Stories
I just called and Wall-E is still on the list. There's hope! The following movies were also on the list:
  • Wall-E
  • Swing Vote
  • Beverly Hills Chihuahua
  • Hannah Montana 3D
  • Bolt 3D
  • High School Musical 3
  • Confessions of a Shopaholic
  • Jonas Bros 3D
  • Race to Witch Mountain
  • Bedtime Stories
Of course, it's all subject to change, but I'm hoping for Wall-E. popcorn::

I noticed in my Passporter that the categories are spread throughout, although there's more higher category rooms (cat 9-10) on the lower decks and deck 8 is exclusively cat. 1-4. I think that all has to do with access to dining and activities. Longer walks for the lower decks. Shorter walks for the upper decks. Honestly, I think it's all good. We're on deck 6, not particularly near anyone either, because that's where the hidden verandah rooms are (they're also on deck 5). I figure we'll all be able to find each other one way or another. :)

pinkelephants-Thank you for sharing that info. Being new to cruising, I have only heard about "how to pick the best cabin". I know it will vary from person to person, and I would be ecstatic if our cabin had a hidden verandah! I'm sure it doesn't or it would be annotated somewhere, but it's still fun to hope!:goodvibes
