I've always preferred large dogs (but not the aggressive types, like Dobermans, Pit Bulls, etc. - more like Airedales, Greyhounds, Golden Retrievers, etc.). My DW likes small fluffy dogs and DD wants a Chihuahua (of course, after seeing the movie).
We saw a
medium-size Doodle in Las Vegas and agreed to compromise on the size. Golden Doodles vary in size from miniature to large depending on the parents. If you're interested, there is actually a Golden Doodle website:
www.goldendoodles.com. We also considered the "Labradoodle" which is a Labrador Retriever / Poodle hybrid.
The kids don't know we're getting a dog. Shhhhhh. This will be a complete surprise. Since we're picking up the puppy on October 31, we're guessing that this will be one 'trick or treat' that the children will never forget. How funny would it be if we coordinated with a neighbor to put the puppy in the pumpkin after the kids ring the doorbell and say trick or treat?

But I think we'll just surprise the kids when we pick them up from school. A friend at work let me borrow some of her dogs old doggie-halloween costumes which might fit the puppy. Then we can dress her up and take her trick-or-treating too.
