Hi All,

We are back from our Fjords cruise! We loved it, have never been so spoilt and we have been completely bitten by the cruising bug! :-)

Once I have edited all 1300 photos!! I will share some on here. Really can't wait now for May 18th 2013 now.....

Valbob, I love that design, it looks really good!

I am happy to help organise anything I can, may just need a little guidance from people please if possible as I haven't done anything like that before. With things like the PJ breakfast do we contact DCL and tell them we are organising something like that?

Have a fantastic weekend all! x

Just a minor point or two, but Gibraltar is not (technically) part of the UK - It is a British Overseas Territory. The flag you have isn't really correct (although to be honest I do much prefer the look of the one you have in the Mickey shape so some poetic licence might be better in this case).

Sorry if it appears picky, not trying to be difficult.

I looked into the flags a bit more and found you were right, the flag I was using for Gibraltar is the governor's flag, so I changed it. I did take a bit more license with colors to get it to fit. I left the UK because I didn't know what to change it to.

Thank you for taking on this project :)

Two things I noted about the shirts that need quick amendments (I'm sorry for being picky, but I didn't want these to slip by unnoticed)

1) Gibraltar is spelled with an "a", not an "e" (you spelled it right on some of your posts, but there's an error on the shirt proof where it says "Gibraltar")

2) There's a capitalization issue with the dates. The "m" in May and the "j" in June need capitals.

To be honest, I find the shirts pretty busy, but I suppose that's the "Hawaii" style. I think I'd want to see a final draft before making a decision, but I can't see myself wearing this kind of shirt (except for a group picture). Killjoy, I know... I apologize! I will try to go along with what everyone else wants, but as things are still in early planning I thought I should say something now in case there are options. It would be a lot of money to spend on shirts that would only be worn for one picture.

(please don't throw things at me :flower3: )

As we aren't going to Hawaii, do we need Hawaii-style shirts? Could they be less patterned? (like a plain base color, with the logo on the back and on the front pocket?)

Thanks for the editing. Just what I was hoping to get from the group.

I would never think of throwing things at you. I doubt if there is anyone in our group who will participate in every activity offered. It doesn't make them any less a valued member.

I agree about the Hawaii group shirt being too busy. But I didn't use the typical Hawaiian shirt as my model (Bob has over 250 Hawaiian shirts so I am very familiar with that style!) but rather the shirts Disney produces for promoting their movies. If you've ever seen Pixar's Jim Lasseter, he wears the type of shirt I was modeling my design after.

I've reworked the shirt, based in part on the great input I received here. Rather then display the design square, I thought if I put it on a tee so you might get a feel for the way it might look. I know you have to use your imagination to picture it on a button-down with the border at the bottom.

This is my first draft, just wanted input. It certainly needs cleaning up. I didn't want to spend any more time it if it wasn't going to work.

I was thinking the bottom border would only be at the bottom of the shirt, like I did for the Hawaii shirt, it would be about 5.5 inches. I increased the font size on this one so it could be read easier. The pattern, Mickey's and wheel, would repeat throughout the shirt.

We don't run a side business, but we are both retired and enjoy doing this type of stuff (or most of it). When we did the Hawaii shirts I gave everyone a copy of the bill from the shirt company, USPS cost, and detailed accounting of their individual costs. Because we ordered 150 shirts, the cost was $25 each. The shipping ended up being about $6.50 for up to 3 shirts. So the cost is just what I am charged. I spoke with one of officers while on the cruise and explained there is absolutely no profit on my part for doing the shirts. I think if there was DCL would have a problem with us using the design.

Is the image that shows up now the corrected image?

I myself like the idea of a Hawaiian shirt. I know they are 'busy' and some won't like that, but I have a million and one T shirts. I don't have any Hawaiian shirts. And especially not one that I may have been able to voice input on! This is exciting for me.

My ideas (I didn't want to voice them in the beginning as I didn't want to come off the wrong way) for the repeating segment are to have the Mickeys a little larger- which you said you've done or plan on doing- and have them positioned more symmetrically around the wheel itself. Maybe more in a 5 points/star formation? Then, for 'filler' we could use the anchor or the dcl logo you made, or something similar. By filler I mean how you used the flowers and surfboards to help fill space and give a randomization type appearance to the Hawaiian shirt. Maybe even little ships or black mickeys in the same pose as the flag filled ones or such?

Then, to tie in the Dis part of this, maybe some of the ship's wheels could have our cruise name or something of that nature in place of the itinerary?

Again, I'm not nearly creative enough to spear head something like this, so I'm glad you and Bob are here to give us a hand! :rotfl:

For background colors, I think a sea blue works (as that helps tie in the nautical/cruising theme) or possibly a white or light grey. I am not sure a dark color like black would work here.

:blush:Dear Val

I re-read what I wrote last night (note the timestamp... it was almost 2am), and I'm so sorry if I came across as overly critical. I really liked your design with the flags, and think it looks fantastic! I'm just afraid I was harsh, and I didn't want to upset you in any way.

My only hangup is the repeated pattern... I'm kind of a big girl, with a big husband, and after seeing the picture of your Hawaii cruise, I can imagine just looking even bigger in a shirt like that  I really try to dress to minimise the damage, you know? A shirt like that would make me feel HUGE.

Last year, it was easy enough to make the shirts out of the logos that people on the WBTA designed (like for the Pub Crawl) - we're in the UK, so shipping the pre-ordered shirts over to us would have been really expensive. I found a t-shirt in a shape I liked (not a standard Hanes high-neck, square shape shirt) and felt a lot more comfortable wearing it. I'd probably like to do the same again (although Mandygirl might be persueded to accept them in the post for us as her house!)

I really hope I didn't hurt your feelings, especially after all your work. I'm so looking forward to getting to know you and the rest of the folks here - this cruise will be amazing because of the friendships formed ahead of time.

No problem, you didn't say anything you need to apologize for at all. You gave your opinion and not in a rude of mean way.

I shipped a couple of shirts to the UK, it was $16 and change to ship 3 shirts. For a few other people, out of the US, I brought their shirts to the the ship.

I'm also width challenged - one reason I wanted this design to be less busy. I hope the larger images, while repeated will be less busy.

Hi, all! We'll be joining you! We're just back from the first Canada cruise (an absolutely amazing journey), and booked this while we were on board.

It will be me (Beth) and DH (Jim). We're a "60-ish" couple, and this will be my 15th Disney Cruise. #14 will be the Eastbound Panama Canal cruise in December. We're very happy that this cruise will stop at Castaway Cay, because the Canada cruise didn't (obviously:rotfl:) and the Panama Canal cruise won't either.

I haven't had time to read back through all the posts because I was posting all of my photos from Canada, and doing fun things like laundry, but I promise to go back and get caught up ASAP!

:welcome: We're in our 60's and will be celebrating DH's retirement! Our next DCL cruise, coming in August will be our 5th.

Bobbi:goodvibes

PS. We lived in Hamilton Township Mercer County for a few years, and love the Cape May NJ area!

We may be celebrating DH's retirement too. He had planned to retire in December just before our Panama Canal cruise, but he's thinking of waiting until just before this one. We're celebrating our 40th anniversary on the PC cruise, and my birthday actually falls during this cruise!

Well, congratulations! Our 45 th Anniversary is June 1, so we're celebrating by staying on for the June 1, med cruise!:goodvibes

I've been working on a possible design for our group. This is the base design. The shirt company would add a material background design. This is a 12 x 12 image of one repeat. Let me know what you think?

Wow, I LOVE the design! I wish I was that creative.

I saw a couple of you talked about fish extender and candy swap, what is that? I haven't heard about it (maybe it is because I'm from Holland and don't understand it well:rotfl:) but I want to learn all about it!

I wish you all a beautifull Sunday!

I liked your idea of placing the mickey's " more in a 5 points/star formation?". To respond to another recommendation, I sized it so there is more negative space, to try and give a less busy look. Keep in mind the "wheel" would repeat throughout the shirt and the bottom border would only repeat at across the bottom.

It just keeps getting better! DH & I both like the idea of a buttoned shirt as opposed to a tee.

Just catching up with the postings on this site,as we are doing a B2B in September first. Seattle-Vancouver-LA

Have been reading the posts on the flag of Gibraltar

However the official flag of Gibraltar is the Union Jack http://www.gibraltarinformation.com/flags-of-gibraltar.html

What you have on the design is the civil & state flag and you appear to have added a red stripe to the top of that flag. (the red stripe is at the bottom only). It's like using the Lone Star flag for the USA

All official buildings fly the the Union Jack

Hope the above helps to get the right flag

However like Paul who bought up the question of the flag I like the first one you had which had the coat of arms in the middle of the Union Jack

David & Jane

PS

The shirt looks great & put us down for two.

I did take some liberty with the colors. On the Gibralter state flag the Mickey head portion should all be white, but it didn't look right with the light background. On the flag of Spain I liked the coat of arms in the middle too. However, I found that when you have material made, small details just look like a blur. If you have lovely blended color it doesn't come out well either, there has to be a saturation of color. When I looked up the flags of Spain it had the three color flag as the 'civil' flag of the country so I thought it might work.

Hi

Assumed that might have been the reason for Mickey's red head.

If you are going to run with the local flag for Gib, do you think it might be better to move it away from Spain, as we have got two mickeys with red heads & bottoms next to each other.

Hopping abroad this thread. DH and I just booked this cruise this morning! Looking forward to a long vacation! :-)

Hi guys,

My girlfriend Tamara and me (Martin) will be joining you on this cruise too, together with our good friends Bas & Marieke (Mowgli2011). We're also from the Netherlands. My girlfriend will be 23 yrs old and I will be 27 yrs old at the moment of the cruise (wow, it's really coming closer now!)

We're really looking forward to the cruise. The two of us did the 3-night Bahamian cruise last year on the Dream when we were in Orlando, to see if we wouldn't get seasick or something but no problem at all! We're very eager to see the Magic and we're counting down with you!

BTW, I love the shirts too, but I agree on them being a little busy. However, I couldn't have done it myself so I will be the last to complain. Whatever the design will be, it'll be all about the fun and we'll wear it anyway
