May 18, 2013 MAGIC EBTA - Who is with us?

I'm sure that from the number of people I'd seen signed up in this thread and how active they are on this board and the number of cruises they've taken that we won't have too much problem getting some special stuff on the go.

The cruise is still so far away that I can't book airfare home yet. Any day though. :goodvibes

Cant believe how busy this is given we have over 11 months to go!

Does anyone know what type of weather we should expect for this cruise - I'm guessing it might be a bit rocky on the atlantic crossing week.

A friend of mine was on this cruise last year and she told me the weather was okay and on one day the sea was rough.
I am really looking forward to meet all of you!

I was at the champagne girls on the WBTA last sept and I remember it was "crashed" by a very envious man!!:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

It was a really good afternoon and a few of us got some very funny photos afterwards with donald duck.

We also took part in the cocktail mixology that was organised, which was great fun too.

Bren :cool1:

He was such a hoot! His cabin was across from our's, and he is actually working at AKL now. :thumbsup2

The private DIS mixology was good as well, although our princess tea ended up being the same time and we had to switch mixology groups. That was TOUGH to do with Guest Services since it was private... several of us kept getting the run around about switching, but it worked out in the end. (Whew!)

I feel so bad, I got an email from RCCL the other day, and am tempted to book one of their WBTA cruises later in the year (the plan was two Magic's- EBTA and WBTA). They have SEVERAL TA's each year and their itineraries are so exciting! They have one with 4 stops in Spain, Madeira, and even the Canary Islands. Another one stops in 3-4 places in Ireland, and the UK and even Iceland before returning back to the US. Why does DCL not stir up the pot a bit and take us somewhere new like that??

I am on the Liberty of the Seas in October. Followed by a 7 night southern Caribbean on the Caribbean Princess. I look at it that one cruise line can't have EVERYTHING, Disney has many special plusses.

Hope all is well-

So I saw somewhere that when the Magic arrived in Barcelona once they had fireworks from the shore - does this usually happening or is this likely to have been a one off? (kind of a question for people who have done this in the past)

We're definitely up for the FE too :)

There were no fireworks last year when we arrived, or none that I knew of anyway. I could have been busy doing something else or sleeping for that matter. Barcelona is a HUGE port and there were alot of ships in port when we were there. We laughed because our ship looked teeny tiny compared to some of the others. I recall someone telling us that it's one of the busiest ports in the world. I believe we did arrive Barcelona sooner than expected though due to a medical emergency as rumor had it. Whether that was true or not I don't know. Fireworks or not, you'll enjoy the cruise. There are fireworks on one of the sea days for pirate night.

We went on the EBTA last May and are also going again next May. It was absolutely fabulous! On the last EBTA the fireworks were on Pirate Night earlier in the week. I believe they did fireworks from shore in Barcelona on the Magic's maiden voyage there for the first Med season. To the best of my knowledge they do not do this anymore in Barcelona.

The weather on the EBTA last May was great. One day the sea was so calm that it looked like a mirror. This may have been the exception rather than the rule.

On the wbta we didnt have one bad day, but I guess it varies at different times of the year.
We will all just have to do that "blessing of the sea" or whatever it was called, where you get the jelly on your head and swim a length in the goofy pool, to pay homage to king triton so he blesses us with calm seas.

Alternatively get plenty sea calms from reception !!:thumbsup2

Great ideas!:goodvibes

On the Hawaii cruise I had hoped everyone would like the button down shirts I designed. I was very pleased to find out just how much everyone, including the crew liked them.

I've been working on a possible design for our group. This is the base design. The shirt company would add a material background design. This is a 12 x 12 image of one repeat. Let me know what you think?

Val and bob that is great I love it, is that a team effort or is one of you going to take the credit:banana:

Just offering my services for heading up organising a group of some kind, fish extender, candy swap, what ever needs doing, now we're 11 months out I'm sure it's going to start getting very busy over here, or so I hope:rotfl2:

I like it! just wondering if this 12x12 segment represents the tail of the shirt (similar to the tail of the Hawai'i shirt) of if you plan to have this as the repeat everywhere on the shirt? I think this segment looks better as the tail (maybe the body's repeat can be sans "magical.....journey" banner?)

Either way, color me impressed- it's very creative! I'm beginning to wonder if you guys run a side business involving graphics or cruise shirts /jk :rotfl:

Just a minor point or two, but Gibraltar is not (technically) part of the UK - It is a British Overseas Territory. The flag you have isn't really correct (although to be honest I do much prefer the look of the one you have in the mickey shape so some poetic licence might be better in this case).

Sorry if it appears picky, not trying to be difficult.

I don't know if anyone has offered to organize the fish extender or candy swap. If your up to it, go for it. I would suggest posting info on how you want to do it and how you want everyone to contact you. Thanks for offering.

This is my first draft, just wanted input. It certainly needs cleaning up. I didn't want to spend any more time it if it wasn't going to work.

I was thinking the bottom border would only be at the bottom of the shirt, like I did for the Hawaii shirt, it would be about 5.5 inches. I increased the font size on this one so it could be read easier. The pattern, Mickey's and wheel, would repeat throughout the shirt.

We don't run a side business, but we are both retired and enjoy doing this type of stuff (or most of it). When we did the Hawaii shirts I gave everyone a copy of the bill from the shirt company, USPS cost, and detailed accounting of their individual costs. Because we ordered 150 shirts, the cost was $25 each. The shipping ended up being about $6.50 for up to 3 shirts. So the cost is just what I am charged. I spoke with one of officers while on the cruise and explained there is absolutely no profit on my part for doing the shirts. I think if there was DCL would have a problem with us using the design.

Your not being picky at all, I want and need the input. I copied the UK info from the DCL website itinerary page. The flag I got off the Gilbralter website. Be happy to change it if you can point me in the right direction. Because I was trying to place the flags were they could be best seen, the colors are not accurate from a proportion stand point but I thought I was using the right flag.

We'll keep working on this design, I think I want to make the Mickey's a little larger and work on the wheel coloring. Can change the flags, or anything else you think needs updating. Will also play with the background color.

Thank you for taking on this project :)

Two things I noted about the shirts that need quick amendments (I'm sorry for being picky, but I didn't want these to slip by unnoticed)

1) Gibraltar is spelled with an "a", not an "e" (you spelled it right on some of your posts, but there's an error on the shirt proof where it says "Gibralter")

2) There's a capitalisation issue with the dates. The "m" in May and the "j" in June need capitals.

To be honest, I find the shirts pretty busy, but I suppose that's the "Hawaii" style. I think I'd want to see a final draft before making a decision, but I can't see myself wearing this kind of shirt (except for a group picture). Killjoy, I know... I apologise! I will try to go along with what everyone else wants, but as things are still in early planning I thought I should say something now in case there are options. It would be a lot of money to spend on shirts that would only be worn for one picture.

(please don't throw things at me :flower3: )

As we aren't going to Hawaii, do we need Hawaii-style shirts? Could they be less patterned? (like a plain base colour, with the logo on the back and on the front pocket?)
