~~~ May 16, 2009 ~~~ Western Magic ~~~
Because of the "civil" issues around Mexico, we have decided not to do the dune buggy excursion. We know that they go to lots of desolate coastal/beach areas, and don't want to find ourselves in a bad situation (though I realize the odds of this are tiny). Because of this, we are going to Nachi Cocum.
Here's my question... Our port time in Cozumel says 9:30 until 6:30. I know Cozumel's time is 2 hours behind EST, which will be the DCL time on leaving. I also know that Cozumel does not do daylight savings time. So...will the ship set the clocks back 2 hours on Wednesday morning? Or, does 9:30 until 6:30 really mean 7:30-4:30 Cozumel time? Just trying to plan our snorkel trip while at Nachi...
Ohh, wish I could help, but this looks like one of those math questions "If a train leaves Chicago at 9:00am going 20 miles per hour....." My eyes glaze over. But it's a great question about how the timing works on the ship. I haven't seen anything mentioned about how that works. I would think that we would switch to match up with the location that we are at, but then that might mess up a lot of people. Hmmm... maybe some of our repeat cruisers will know the answer. I'm just glad we are doing a DCL excursion.
Hi Everyone! Sorry I haven't been on; computer is now back (supposedly repaired-not too sure of that one!) and of course, work!
I am looking so forward to this trip; can't wait!
Is it too late to order a bracelet? I would like one; just for me!
It's going to take me awhile to catch up on all the posts here! Right before the computer crashed I was almost up to date!:sad2:
Off to reading what I've missed!:surfweb:
Welcome back Kathy!!!
I forgot to ask in my last post:
Has anyone played bingo on the DCL? DS & I just went for the first time (what fun!) and can't wait to play onboard. A few ?'s~
Are the boards reusable? Do they sell chips or markers?
Any help would be appreciated!
I just wanted to do a quick post about some of the recent Q's. Then I'll be back later!! :goodvibes
You will get a card in your stateroom at turn-down time saying to set your watch/clock back for CST at Coz and then ahead again after leaving Coz. They tell you exactly what to do. You're always on the same time as the time zone you are in.
Bingo cards are not reuseable, except for that set of games. They have a little "fold over" thing that marks those spots. If I remember right, as the games went along, it got harder to keep track of which ones were actually folded over and which ones had just been done too many times. Luckily, they have scanners on them so as the numbers are drawn, it goes into the computer so when you yell BINGO!, they scan the card to make sure it's accurate.
Looks perfect to me! We ordered ours in early February and are STILL waiting on it!:confused3 I'm a little irritated, but hopefully we'll be receiving it soon...
Shawan -- the FE looks GREAT!
Loucinda -- I am with you, ordered it on Feb 20th and haven't heard a word. I emailed her tonight. I am getting nervous....
I'm taking tomorrow off (need to burn some PTO time and NEED a mental health day. Except for taking mom to the accountant in the afternoon I'm going to work on my FE and hope that it comes close to what I have in my brain. Otherwise I'll be hunting for something else to work as well.
Mati - I went to Costco yesterday with Mom and was SO bummed that I couldn't find the water shoes. I've bought a pair from Land's End, but wanted to check those out as well. Anyway, Jim and I went back today to do our shopping and still couldn't find them and then as we were checking out the lady in the next row was just trying a pair on. I ran back to see if I could find them and still no luck. Ran back to the checkout and asked her where she found them and there were 4 pairs in a basket set off to the side (like when they have stuff to restock). I ran over there and found a black pair in my size!!!!:cool1: I figured I'd do a test of these and the Lan's End ones and then return the one's that I don't like. Then I went ahead and accidentally tossed the receipt at another store. DUH! Guess I'll be keeping the Costco sandals.
I really need to run to the gym, but I really don't want to go.....I'm cozyed up under a blanket, watching Ace of Cakes, and cruising the boards (still reading your food report Sonya).
Hi Jane! I want a mental day off too! Unfortunately I don't have PTO to burn -- I do quite well taking all of my vacation throughout the year. :)
I need to go to the gym too -- feeling even pudgier than normal :scared1:
As for Costco, try both and let me know what you think. Costco will take them back without a receipt -- just give you store credit. They can even look it up against your card I think. I am really worried that the tag in back will rub on my heel. Still toying with ordering the Land's End sandals too!
Because of this, we are going to Nachi Cocum.
.... Just trying to plan our snorkel trip while at Nachi...
COOL -- We'll see you there! :thumbsup2Thinking about doing a massage there....
Hi Kathy! Glad to have you back online! I don't think we will settle the bracelet count until April 1 (same cutoff for FE). Amanda is organizing it so she will know for sure.
I just wanted to do a quick post about some of the recent Q's. Then I'll be back later!! :goodvibes
Hi Val!!! How was Girl's Night out???? Pictures???? Can't wait to see them...popcorn::
Not much going on exciting over here. My MIL arrives on Saturday :scared1: and I don't think we will have everything in place. In fact, I may bite the bullet (and wallet) and hire someone to clean the house on Friday. It needs a good cleaning and unfortunately work is going to be crazy this week.
Kym -- Sabrina wrote Faith back. Tammy -- I keep forgetting to have Sabrina write Carissa. Is she still interested in that? Jamie -- no pressure but wanted to be sure you knew Sabrina wrote Jalen back awhile ago (don't worry, she has been so busy lately, I think she forgot about asking for an email from him).
Ah-- and Kathy, check out the tastings & dinner link list and let me know if you are interested in anything.
Have a good night y'all!
Shawan- I think the FE is adorable. I started making ours a few months ago and I never finished it. I better get on the ball.
Mati- We would also like to be linked with the early dinning group.
Sorry if the answer to this is somewhere, I'm feeling lazy :). Does anyone know when the character breakfast is offered? The last time we cruised it was something like the morning after your 2nd time dining at Animator's Palette. Thanks :)! ~ Kathy
Directly from the Passporter book "If your dining rotation starts with Animator's Palate, your character breakfast will probably be Sunday morning (Lumiere's = Monday, Parrot Cay = Thursday). Your server may present your tickets on the evening before, or they may be left in your stateroom - bring them with you to breakfast. Your character breakfast's date and time are noted on the tickets".
Sorry I don't know if that helps. Seems that since we don't know what restaurant we start with there isn't an easy way to figure out which day the breakfast is.
I'm not sure why they can't just let us know ahead of time which rotation you will be on.
J
So there must've been some sort of board update, huh? I couldn't get on this morning while exercising. :scared:
(I don't do martini's so that part would be a waste).
You might be surprised!! Maybe just come & try it out! The martinis we had last night were not "traditional" ones. My favorite (Seduction) is made with Frangelico, Kahlua, Chambord, and cream. YUM!!!
We have Main (early) dining now and haven't signed up to eat with anyone, so if Mati & Yoni or Jamie & family are still available (and they don't mind sitting with us!) we'd love to arrange our mealtimes together.
Sounds good, Sara! :goodvibes
Question - can kids wear shorts to dinner? I can't remember for some reason. I bought my son a few pair of cute shorts from the GAP and was wondering if he could wear them with a collared shirt?
It seems like this is always a "touchy subject" on the main board. Some question how little girls can wear capris, etc., but little boys shouldn't wear dressy shorts because they're still "shorts." But with boys, clothes are so limted anyway, so that's why so many want to put their boys in shorts. I say it's a personal decision.
Because of the "civil" issues around Mexico, we have decided not to do the dune buggy excursion. We know that they go to lots of desolate coastal/beach areas, and don't want to find ourselves in a bad situation (though I realize the odds of this are tiny). Better safe than sorry!!! I think you've made a good decision. I'm kind of a "what if" type of thinker. :rolleyes:
I'm not sure if it has changed since then, but two years ago, it was the morning after the FIRST time at AP. Ours was on Sunday morning, and we had APL rotation.
Hi Val!!! How was Girl's Night out???? Pictures???? Can't wait to see them...popcorn::
It was a TON of fun!! I didn't win big at the races, but that's okay. :rolleyes: My BFF, though, walked out $70 ahead! She hit the exacta on each of the last two on races!! I don't have as many pics as I had hoped to get. We had a little confusing (but funny) situation after the races, which caused my camera to be left in the car for the rest of our evening :sad2: (more on that later!). Here's a pic of the 4 of us after the last race.
DSC_0011-1-1.jpg
Here's one of Drayco & me.
DSC_0012-1.jpg
So the 4 of us are heading toward the door to find Justin in the parking lot, and I look over to see a dog, and I say to the girls, "Hey, he looks just like Drayco!" (Double take done.) "IT IS DRAYCO!!!!" It may be hard to tell this, but Drayco & I are actually inside the Fonner Park concourse. Why, do you ask, is Drayco inside at the horse races?!?! Wellllllll, he came along with Justin to pick us up, and when he tried to push the button to open the sunroof, he accidentally pushed the hatch instead, so of course, he took off right away (he's a "runner" whenever he's not on the leash). Since it was a nice day, the doors were propped open, and he just came right inside. Security had him when I found him, so I just told them he was my dog, and they gave him to me. I gave my phone to a friend and had her call Justin to see where he was & if he had a leash with him. (BTW, he was shocked to find out he was inside with us!) Anyway, in the middle of all this, my friend decided to take this pic of him & me, and since I had a hold of his collar, she had the camera, so when we finally got into the car, it got left behind for our martini bar fun. :sad2: That place is SOOOO cool! I really wanted to show it off to you guys. AND...I realized why Sonya looks so familiar to me! She has a twin on the other side of the world who works at the martini bar!!! She wasn't working last night, but she did stop in for a few minutes, and as soon as she walked in is when I thought of Sonya right away! Unfortunately, that was when I realized I didn't have my camera. :sad: I guess I'll just have to go back sometime soon! ;) WITH my camera!!
Oh my goodness! I am SO behind! I am going to do my best to try to catch up (at least on the last 10 pages)!
Yesterday I went to Costco at lunch and got some goodies for the cruise -- got me a swimsuit (dang those speedos, had to go up a size *sigh*), got Yoni a swimsuit, got Sabrina a swimsuit (did you know that it costs $35 for a "girl's" swimsuit? Yeesh -- she is only 7) and got the infamous water shoes. They had some for guys too so Yoni got a pair in black. BTW, my swimsuit, $20, Yoni's $14, Sabrina's $11. :banana:
Costco is a scary place! Can't ever get out of there under $200 (and this week was $400)!:scared1: They have cute swimsuits/coverups for girls, swimsuits and rashguards (is that what they are called?) for boys, dresses for the girls (both sundresses and a formal dress). Whew....
The other bit of big news that some of you that are on FB might have seen is that Yoni went for his INS interview yesterday in San Antonio and they turned around and invited him to the swearing in ceremony TOMORROW! :banana:
Yeah!!:cool1: Congrats to both of you!!
Hmmmm......what else, ah, bought some sunscreen for the cruise. SPF70 :laughing: Apparently the DR said some of the meds I am on make my face very sensitive to the sun. So, if I use SPF30 everywhere else, am I going to look bizarre with a WHITE face and tan body? :rotfl2:
Be careful...my Doctor told me that SPF past 40 (I think it was 40) actually isn't any more effective than SPF 40. Has anyone ever heard of this? I was burned several years ago when we first moved to CA and I had to be in the hospital for a few days. I actually turned black and blue (LONG story....let's just say that I used to tan in a tanning bed way back and I thought I put sunblock on....oops. I accidentally grabbed the tanning bed lotion). Add that to floating in the pool on a raft and you can't even imagine what this white, white girl looked like!
Amanda is a crack up! She was the one that said we would be going to our house in Florida... She is so engrossed getting her website up for her new business she doesn't even know what she is saying... Anyway, we do have a a few houses on Lake Killarney in Winter Park however, because none of us claim Florida as our home state we cannot claim residency. Real bummer:sad2: She is also trying to be a real grown up and stay at home this week while Jason is in LA. She has always been a bit of a chicken about staying at home alone, especially at night. I am sure her puppy Abby is keeping her company. She seems to be doing fine.
I wish I had a relationship with my mom like this! She lives in TN and we live in CA.
Lynsey & Mati - I feel ya! My hubby is not as big a Disney fan as the rest of us but it seems like slowly I've been able to bring him over to our side! After taking him on the Disney cruise for our wedding, he's hooked on the "Disney Difference"! ;) In fact, he even lets me display all my Disney collection pieces in display cases right next to HIS tv. :rotfl2:
This is funny because my husband is a big black man and he argued with me this year about the fact that we were not going to cancel our DISNEY cruise. With him not working since last June, I thought about canceling it. He did not want to hear anything about canceling...he has to have his DISNEY cruise!!:rotfl:
You can put my down for just 1. My husband won't wear one. Also, I can't imagine too many kids who will want to wear a bracelet. For those of you new to the ship, the kids have to wear a plastic wristband all week long for the clubs. They are the plastic ones that lock and they keep it on all week long. Mine won't wear 2 things!![/QUOTE]
Belinda -- ok, will buy a dress I guess -- but no, no clue on what I am going to wear.... it is too stressful to think about! :eek: .
Don't stress out too much about the dress. You will see a wide range on formal night. Most people wear a party like dress rather than the full prom dress type. I have always worn a black dress with some type of sheer ruffle or cute design. I don't think any of us will outdress Belinda (BellaMickey) since she'll be fancied up!!:woohoo:
Looks great Mati!!:thumbsup2 It seems that there are a few more people wanting to link for early dining so it might rearrange a few people! Since we can't all sit together, I'm sure they could probably sit us all in the same area of the dining rooms. Can you imagine the poor waiters who have to put up with all of us in one spot?:rotfl2:
JorDan... Thanks so much for the scoop on sales, cruise items, etc. Your current information is saving all of us time as well as money! :thanks:
JorDan....you are dangerous girl!!
I didn't realize the men could wear jeans (well anyone can wear jeans). Hmmm....that helps. I just bought a pair of jean capris at my favorite place -- Costco!
I guess I didn't realize that men wore jeans. After 3 cruises, you'd think I'd figure that out! I just asked my husband but he doesn't remember wearing jeans. He said mainly khakis (a few pair will last the whole week because you only wear them for a few hours). Plus, you have one night Palo, one night suit for formal night. Then wear the suit pants only for semi-formal night (of course, they have to wear a shirt!!)
For dinner, I took a black skirt and matched it with different shirts and some khaki capris (I think). I wore a sundress one night. Nothing overboard.
I'll post later about overpacking! After 3 cruises, we have packing down to 2 suitcases for 4 of us and our carseat bag. THe first cruise, we had 4 suitcases and only used about 1 suitcase full!
Hi Sara! I don't mind linking with you guys too -- the more the merrier! I have no idea how they manage large groups. My thought was I would ask for these # ressies to be seated together and possibly near these # ressies? Something like that. I think we call it in directly even if we booked through a TA. I'll find out. Oh, and one thing -- I warned Kym and hopefully she is ok with it, we do enjoy our wine with dinner so if that is not cool with you, let me know. I won't be offended but no reason to be uncomfortable at dinner!
Sorry Mati-I haven't had the time to email back! Drinks are totally fine with us! :thumbsup2 We usually splurge and get our drinks by the pool but sometimes get some at dinner also!
My "like a virgin" story isn't all that awesome -- just imagine, me, young (or somewhat young) american on a ship full of Finns (I married in Finland) having to belt out a song for $ -- it was not fun. Needless to say I am not a good singer AND Finns are really cruel to their bachelorettes (and bachelors -- Yoni's stories are way worse!).!
We won't be cruel to you!!:lmao: You might just become a STAR!!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! I was just about to order a FE on Ebay when I came across this organizer. I love, love, love Tinkerbell and I was thinking about ordering this and using it as my FE. Do you think that it will work? I think that I am going to hop over to the main board and check out the demensions of the typical fish extenders.
PROD_1077060_XL.jpg
Very cute!:thumbsup2 My concern is that 11" is too wide. I think there is only around 8" of wall. It seems small but the pockets seem to be tiny! I haven't pulled mine out from last year. I'll try to do that tomorrow and measure.. I know there's several sets of directions on the boards for the measurements. Can anyone comment who has made theres?
Here's my question... Our port time in Cozumel says 9:30 until 6:30. I know Cozumel's time is 2 hours behind EST, which will be the DCL time on leaving. I also know that Cozumel does not do daylight savings time. So...will the ship set the clocks back 2 hours on Wednesday morning? Or, does 9:30 until 6:30 really mean 7:30-4:30 Cozumel time? Just trying to plan our snorkel trip while at Nachi...
It is confusing because it's like you move forward one day and then go back the next.
Loucinda -- I am with you, ordered it on Feb 20th and haven't heard a word. I emailed her tonight. I am getting nervous.....
If you ordered from that one lady online, I know it takes a little while to get them. They are embroidered so they take longer but they sure look like they are worth the wait!!
Kym -- Sabrina wrote Faith back.
She will be excited to read it tomorrow after school and email back!!:cool1:
Boy, I have to try to get to the boards more often so I'm not so behind!
I have to be honest that I haven't shopped for the cruise at all:scared1: but I have the kids FE items (not packaged but have them) and have started making the FE items for the adults! I think I'm crazy :upsidedow(especially since the list has grown!) but I think you will all like what I am making! Having been 3 times before, I know what to pack and will start soon to pull out clothes and everything else. Rule #1- DON'T OVERPACK!!! But hey-my FE items will be ready!!:cool1: Priorities, right?!?!:rotfl:
I went to Cheesecake Factory. I have one by my house but have never gone before! I had a Moms luncheon there. I must say that my food wasn't that good (there were only 4 choices and I ordered the club) but my white chocolate macademia cheesecake made up for it!!:woohoo:
Have a great night!
Kym
It sounds like everyone is gearing up pretty fast... Except JorDan :sick:.... Feel better soon. :hug:
Mati... Amaretto Sours are scrumptious!!! :drinking:
Sometimes you just need to go with the flow. I wouldn't lose any sleep over company coming... Are they coming to see you or your house? If it bothers them that much they can just take care of it themselves! :snooty:
I don't think there will be a vow renewal for us on this trip... I am pressing my luck with Bob on the trip at all. Wouldn't it be wonderful if he were to really have a good time and want to go again?
I mentioned tea to Amanda and the other girls tonight and no one sounded too enthused, but I am definitely in! I will see about a reservation once we get aboard, just let me know when you decide to go for sure. :grouphug:
I have decided not to be overly concerned with wardrobe... I was one of those that took way too many clothes last time. BTW isn't there still a laundry room for us to use? :laundy:
Val... Glad to see you are well and back in the fold... :yay:
Cinda... Texas Holdem is a favorite with our guys so Adam would certainly have company if you want to bring your set... :joker: Are you driving? If not maybe Jason could bring his instead... as we are.
FYI... I have told our little boys that if they were to get separated from us off the ship for any reason that they could just look around for someone wearing the same wrist band as they were and they would be able to trust them to ask for help... Just a thought... :idea:
Have a great Monday all! :goodvibes
Mati,
can you also link us for early Dinner seating. Thanks Crystal,
I guess I didn't realize that men wore jeans. After 3 cruises, you'd think I'd figure that out!
Welcome back, Kym!! It sux to be behind, doesn't it?!?! Anyway, I think they changed the recommendations to include jeans sometime within the last two years. I know in April 2007, they didn't allow jeans, but it has changed since then. I do remember seeing it on the main board when it happened. We'll probably mix it up a bit with jeans, khakis, and slacks.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if he were to really have a good time and want to go again?
See if you can talk him into it before getting off the ship so you can get 10% off and an OBC for next time!!! :thumbsup2
BTW isn't there still a laundry room for us to use? :laundy:
Yes, there's 3--one on each deck 7, 6, and 2. I went there the first day and ironed shirts for dinner that night and then had the rest sent out to be pressed.
FYI... I have told our little boys that if they were to get separated from us off the ship for any reason that they could just look around for someone wearing the same wrist band as they were and they would be able to trust them to ask for help... Just a thought... :idea:
GREAT IDEA!!!
So I was pretty tired last night when I was posting (but I wasn't falling alseep this time--was also watching Celebrity Apprentice [Rodman NEEDS to go!!]), and I knew I was forgetting something from the list of my my oh-so-yummy Seduction martini but couldn't think of what it was--it's Bailey's!! So, it's Frangelico, Kahlua, Bailey's, Chambord, and just a dash of cream. I think I need to try to make them at home! YUM! :goodvibes
Oh, I forgot to tell what I did yesterday morning when the boards were down! I filled out my online registration (need to print them yet, though), I ordered Stay Certificates for the Hyatt @ MCO for the night after the cruise, I reserved the rooms at Hyatt, and I reserved our car service for Friday from the aiport to the Radisson! Yay!! (I obviously can get a lot accomplished when the boards are down...) :blush: Now I need to find & reserve a hotel for Thurs night in Omaha (flying out at 6 AM on Friday! UGH!) and reserve a rental car for Saturday after disembarkation. Oh, and FIND MY PASSPORTS!! (They're not where I thought they were!!) :scared:
Tammy -- I keep forgetting to have Sabrina write Carissa. Is she still interested in that?
Mati - YES, Carissa is still interested.
I've been out of touch the past few days and just finished with the boards. Those of you who have me on facebook might have noticed that I met Brendan Fraser at work the other day. So work was busy last week getting ready for the event. Brendan will be playing my CEO, John Crowley, in a movie that starts to film in April.
THEN my dog got sick Thursday night. He kept shaking his ears, but it didn't look like an ear infection. He had me up ALL NIGHT and by morning he had a hematoma in each ear flap. So I was out of work on Friday, and that's usually where I check the boards.
Later this week I should be able to read the boards from home - YEAH! I'm putting to rest my 6 year old computer and replacing it with a brand new one. For the past few months it's been difficult to do a lot on my home computer because it's so slow. My new one should arrive on Friday.
How is it that you -- the QUEEN of everything edible, has never had a tequila????? OMG -- we have to fix that!!!! :lmao:
:rolleyes1
What can I say . . I'm all about the food!!!!!!!:rotfl2:
I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! I was just about to order a FE on Ebay when I came across this organizer. I love, love, love Tinkerbell and I was thinking about ordering this and using it as my FE. Do you think that it will work? I think that I am going to hop over to the main board and check out the demensions of the typical fish extenders.
That is lovely! I love Tink ever since seeing her movie a few weeks ago!
Here's one of Drayco & me.
. AND...I realized why Sonya looks so familiar to me! She has a twin on the other side of the world who works at the martini bar!!! She wasn't working last night, but she did stop in for a few minutes, and as soon as she walked in is when I thought of Sonya right away! Unfortunately, that was when I realized I didn't have my camera. :sad: I guess I'll just have to go back sometime soon! ;) WITH my camera!!
I get around . . .!!!
Drayco is adorable!
Oh, I forgot to tell what I did yesterday morning when the boards were down! I filled out my online registration (need to print them yet, though), I ordered Stay Certificates for the Hyatt @ MCO for the night after the cruise, I reserved the rooms at Hyatt, and I reserved our car service for Friday from the aiport to the Radisson! Yay!! (I obviously can get a lot accomplished when the boards are down...) :blush: Now I need to find & reserve a hotel for Thurs night in Omaha (flying out at 6 AM on Friday! UGH!) and reserve a rental car for Saturday after disembarkation. Oh, and FIND MY PASSPORTS!! (They're not where I thought they were!!) :scared:
I filled my forms in yesterday (Had to do something "cruisey" while this forum was down). I was so excited to do it, but it was a little dull really!!!! :rotfl:
You got a lot of jobs done yesterday - wow!!! GOOD LORD HAVE YOU FOUND THE PASSPORTS?!?!
