Also, maybe some of you guys can answer few questions on this thread....

Just deciding which of the fantastic recipes that I got onboard (from the recipe exchange and from the restaurants) that I should attempt this weekend.

I want to try them all.

Thanks for organizing our recipes! That was a great idea. What variety and great choices we have. I'm going to enjoy all of these in a binder for my EBTA cooking memories.

I love recipes from different parts of the country and now the world. I'm so glad my "selfish" idea of a way to get some, seemed to be enjoyed by others too! I believe I will be the official recipe card coordinator on all of our future cruises too!

THANKS everyone for making this idea a fun success!!!

ENJOY COOKING! :stir:

Hey everybody!! Not sure if anyone checks this poor, lonely thread anymore...lol, but was wondering if anyone did try Air Berlin for the cruise??

I know there were a couple people who were thinking about it last time & they do have some great rates.... just hoping for some feedback on that as I try to rationalize & figure out a way to do the wbta!! :cool1:

.

Be VERY careful. I took a discounted air to get from Barcelona to England and luggage cost me nearly $2000. Check their baggage fees first!

I second the watch out for baggage fees though I do think she means $200 instead of $200. For us it was okay as we were flying on miles to Frankfort so baggage fees were still less than we would have paid for a full fare ticket.

We flew Air Berlin last year from Frankfort to Barcelona. Baggage restrictions are very strict. You have an advantage if you are flying from the USA and not Europe but still expensive if you have more than one bag. Their carry on bag restrictions forced us to buy a special bag. I prepaid for an additional bag for each of us as it is cheaper. We actually used Luggage Express to ship two additional bags as United allows us three bags each.

Cabin baggage
For reasons of safety as well as convenience, each passenger is only allowed to take one item of cabin baggage into the cabin. Cabin baggage must not weigh more than 6 kg (8 kg incl. laptop) and the dimensions must not exceed 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm. Passengers in airberlin’s business class may take a second item of cabin baggage weighing up to 6 kg on board.
6 kg - 13 lbs 3 oz 8 = 17 lbs 10 oz
55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm. = 21.7in x 15.7in x 7.9 in

Free baggage allowance
The piece concept applies to flights to and from the USA and also to and from Canada. Essentially it means that one item of baggage weighing up to 23 kg is allowed per person travelling in Economy Class. Holders of a topbonus Service Card can check in one item of baggage weighing up to 32 kg free of charge.

23 kg = 50.7063 pounds.

Extra Bag Cost:
Economy Class
more than 23 kg and up to 32 kg: EUR 25 (USD 25) one way.

Second item of baggage
up to 23 kg: EUR 40 (USD 40) one way
More than 23 kg and up to 32 kg: EUR 65 (USD 65) one way.

Third and each additional item of baggage, each
weighing up to 32 kg: EUR 150 (USD 150) one way
More than 32 kg: EUR 450 (USD 450) per item of baggage one way.

Business Class
Third and each additional item of baggage, each
weighing up to 32 kg: EUR 150 (USD 150) one way
More than 32 kg: EUR 450 (USD 450) per item of baggage one way.

No, I paid $2000 (TWO THOUSAND). EasyJet charged per kilo oafter the first 20kg and we had 2 heavy pieces each for all 5 of us. And I'm a he, not she. :-D

I am so sorry for calling you a she. Mea culpa! :confused3

I thought my 300 Euros was bad!! We did not have our bags weighed but prepaid that and that was all were charged!!

This is the flight we took, Bev! Greyhound Bus of the skies, I call it ;). Because you will be taking an international flight, you are allowed one check on (under 51 pounds) and one carry-on (around 13 pounds) for free. We did not care for the food (Delta's was better last Oct.) but managed. Entertainment is lame as well, take a few good books! It is worth it to make the WBTA affordable. We did not pay in advance for our seat assignments. We checked in the night before, and were able to get window or aisle for all 4 of us (two sets of A + B, two in front of the other two). Good luck :goodvibes

Oh my word!! :scared1: I'm so sorry!

Did you not hear my whining about my luggage weight allowance woes? I wish I would have known to warn you. It is very hard to get your one check on each to weigh under 43 pounds, but doable. I threw out MIL's full sized Suave shampoos and conditioners and told her I would buy her new ones for use at my house....only cost me .99 cents each to replace once we got here. She was my hardest one to pack up for our exit from the cruise. My son was my easiest, one of his heavy pair of shoes got tight on the cruise so we left them behind :thumbsup2

We considered EasyJet to London, but this is exactly why we ended up on British Air! We wanted to make sure we wouldn't have any extra luggage fees, and EasyJet's a la cart pricing was just weird!

we ended up having to check our carry on, but as we travel light we were lucky and not charged. i hated to check my carry ons.
