May 14, 2011 - Eastbound TransAtlantic

We have an early flight out on the morning of May 28 (9:10AM Swiss Air). I called DCL and asked if I should book a Disney transfer. They advised me to let the guest relations on the ship know that we would need very early departure and we should be fine. Someone else posted the same thing and that is what they did last year. We might have to take a cab or something. Will have Euros in my wallet just in case. This is the only stressful part of the trip for me. According to the google spreadsheets there are three groups (cabins) of us that have the same flight.

Can't wait for the trip! :yay:

Same info I was given, told to leave the ship about 5 am that Saturday. I went to a website called Airport city Transfer and made a reservation to be picked up at 4:45 that am. They emailed me the name and phone # of whoever is supposed to be picking us up. Cost was $46 Euros for two people. I believe they were showing the same price for up to four people, but I am not completely positive of that. I sure hope it was an ok site to go with.

too funny how our little "mini me's" act like us! My nightmares are made up of things like I am the airport and forgot to bring my passport, or in a foreign country and I forgot cash and my ATM card, or that we are in a hotel trying to pack up and get out before check out and my kids "stuff" keeps growing and growing and i can't get it all packed. Sad huh?

sad & funny :rotfl:

my kids are ready to go! they keep asking how many more sleeps!

wish us luck on friday with our 45minute connection in Denver:scared1:
thanks Disney Air! luckily it is 1st flight in the am- so there will be a few more if we miss our connection.......that there would hopefully be room for us

Tammie, I fly through Denver several times a year, and of all the arports I've ever been in, DIA is the easiest to navigate. It's very quick to get around, 45 minutes should be plenty of time :)

My DH and I are flying out of Barcelona, connecting thru Dusseldorf and continue back to Miami on Air Berlin. Has anyone out there ever flown with this airline??? We haven't, usually fly the major airlines, but the cost of Air Berlin was too good too pass up!!! Let me know if you have ever flown Air Berlin, the good, the bad or the ugly!!! :scared1:

weather.com has scattered thunderstorms predicted 30% chance for sunday. we dont travel to florida/bahamas often. with the scattered thunderstorms is it typically sunny and then storm moves in & clears up or gray skies all day long?

trying to decide keep cabana- cancel cabana......I think we will still keep might be nice if the storms are intermittent

hopefully the storms will be delayed a few days......

Looks like we will not be able to reserve a private gathering for the "Champagne Ladies" I have put on the schedule for 5/18 to meet in the promenade lounge at 10pm with our pink boas and we can "hit the town". We'll make the best out of it!

How close are the taxi's in Barcelona at the port. We are planning to disembark at 5:00AM and take a taxi to the airport. Are the taxi's plentiful and nearby (within reasonable walking distance)?

:confused3

if it is raining all day 100 of your closest friends will be stopping by for a visit :P

From the sound of things they are really hard to book, if i was you, I would keep it. Typically in Florida the weather can go from one direction to the other in a drop of a hat, I know when we are at WDW we usually just keep on plugging along and it stops. Not sure if the Bahamas is the same or not.

We flew Air Berlin last year from Frankfort to Barcelona. Baggage restrictions are very strict. You have an advantage if you are flying from Miami but still expensive if you have more than one bag. Their carry on bag restrictions forced us to buy a special bag. I prepaid for an additional bag for each of us as it is cheaper. We actually used Luggage Express to ship two additional bags as United allows us three bags each.

Cabin baggage
For reasons of safety as well as convenience, each passenger is only allowed to take one item of cabin baggage into the cabin. Cabin baggage must not weigh more than 6 kg (8 kg incl. laptop) and the dimensions must not exceed 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm. Passengers in airberlin’s business class may take a second item of cabin baggage weighing up to 6 kg on board.
6 kg - 13 lbs 3 oz 8 = 17 lbs 10 oz
55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm. = 21.7in x 15.7in x 7.9 in

Free baggage allowance
The piece concept applies to flights to and from the USA and also to and from Canada. Essentially it means that one item of baggage weighing up to 23 kg is allowed per person travelling in Economy Class. Holders of a topbonus Service Card can check in one item of baggage weighing up to 32 kg free of charge.

23 kg = 50.7063 pounds.

Extra Bag Cost:
Economy Class
more than 23 kg and up to 32 kg: EUR 25 (USD 25) one way.

Second item of baggage
up to 23 kg: EUR 40 (USD 40) one way
More than 23 kg and up to 32 kg: EUR 65 (USD 65) one way.

Third and each additional item of baggage, each
weighing up to 32 kg: EUR 150 (USD 150) one way
More than 32 kg: EUR 450 (USD 450) per item of baggage one way.

Business Class
Third and each additional item of baggage, each
weighing up to 32 kg: EUR 150 (USD 150) one way
More than 32 kg: EUR 450 (USD 450) per item of baggage one way.

Thanks "birkner" for the info on Air Berlin. That looks to be the same as on their website.

You are welcome!! We did enjoy the flight and the food on Air Berlin. However, they are very strict about baggage and we did have to board the plane on the tarmac in the rain. Air Berlin did not have jet ways only the old fashioned stairways which I understand allows them to have really low fares.

just want to wish you guys all a magical cruise:wizard:

and hurry hurry so we can get on and bring her back in september:yay:

I think that today is the last day you can cancel - you must do so 3 days prior - so it may have even been earlier today - do not know how they do that as it says we have 2 days till we set sail when I log on. So you need to call if you want to cancel and make sure you can without being charged! I would hate for you to cancel it, then still be charged!

I am unclear on if I have been assigned someone who wants to come with us to the rent a prince & princess-
I have 3 kids & 3 adults-- so I can take 3 more adults

Also-- do I have to rush immediately to guest services to sign up for this or is this something that all kids are invited to?

Right outside the terminal to your right. The police regulate how many cabs can come in at a time.

OK, copy of FE list, meet 3 pm Promenade lounge. Anything else I need to remember?
