May 14, 2011 - Eastbound TransAtlantic

I want to ensure the Roll Call reflects everybody that is still cruising with us. I fear some may have changed their minds and never removed their names from the spreadsheet. I looked quickly at a name and noticed no post since Oct. I know many people just read and don't post so it may not be anybody dropped off. I added a confirmed date column to the spreadsheet. Assuming you are still cruising update the confirmed date with the current date. At the end of next week we can look to see if anybody hasn't added the date. This will help with the planning, such as F.E.

Great idea!

Sharkbait- Are you in 1 or 2 cabins with the 5 of you?

Two cabins, hopefully close to each other. I just confirmed the roll call sheet. As soon as we know cabin numbers, we will definitely post.

Just started making my FE.... my daughter is the procrastinator... undecided if she wants a nautical theme or not. It will be alot of fun looking at all the FE's.

Just verified this morning on the spreadsheet....Have been reading alot but not posting. Can't believe we have less than 10 weeks to go.Still seems to be lots of availability on the sailing, maybe that will mean some pixie dust and upgrades:tinker:

Looking forward to some rest and relaxation....

ok I am now back from my January cruise on the Magic and my B2B on the Dream last week. On the cruise in January I booked the Sept. TA knowing I would move it to the May one - but then we got to talking and had some other issues and kept going back and fourth on the Dream cruise as to booking this cruise or not. We let it get down to an hour left before future cruise desk - having a family meeting and discussing what to do and if we should do it or not.

So with very little time left we went down and booked a new reservation - and I cannot believe as I unpack from this cruise it is only 9 weeks till we take our 3rd TA!!!!

I need to go back and reread this thread to see what all is going on! I know I am on the FE list - already have my gifts planned out.

Want to do the secret Mickey - more fun on the longer cruises

I will also begin packing today!!!

If anyone has any questions about the TA last year I am willing to answer - I will also share my thoughts later on what I am packing (and not packing) because traveling on limited luggage plan is harder!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Sorry, been extremely busy and just not having the time to check the boards lately. I would too be interested in the lanyards, however I haven't had time to read back through all the older posts. However I think I would prefer to not have the screen name, but just rather our names, but you can let me know what was being decided, costs, etc.

Finally was able to look at excursions and decided on what we could possibly afford to do.

can someone direct me to the lanyard discussion? I would love to help with this as I did on the last TA I ordered the lanyards and the someone else did the name cards and I have some tips I can throw in.

Hello and welcome! :wave2::wave2:

Did you do the Eastbound TA before? I was wondering what the weather is like in the middle of the ocean. Layers? Shorts or pants? Sweatshirt? Were you outside on the open decks or under cover on the days at sea? Please say it wasn't too windy or cold on deck 4! That's my DH's FAVORITE place on the ship.

Be sure to join the Secret Mickeys...we need a few more people to play.

See you real soon! :yay::yay::yay:

Krisann-
Welcome! It will be great to hear your experiences from last year and I would love to see your packing list too. I think I may start packing next week and see how it all fits into the suitcase.

Welcome Krisann, I see that you are from TN. What part? We live in Franklin, just south of Nashville.
Would love to have packing tips. I tend to be an overpacker. We will be on the ship for 25 days and have a 50lb weight limit on our checked bag.

Also, I am impressed that you are beginning to pack. I usually begin to pack about a week prior to travel and my husband makes fun of me.

I tend to throw things I don't want to forget in the suitcases now. Some items stay in the suitcases, ie: nightlight, alarm clock, powerstrip but as far as clothes, I'll be up the night before we leave packing :laundy: If I do it to early, I forget what I've packed and keep taking it all out and doing it over and over.

The Secret Mickey..... Everyone that signs up needs to contact me with the name, age and a little info about the person signing up. example would be a girl age 4 likes Ariel and Donald Duck. This will help the person that is your Secret Mickey to know what to shop for.
I will be assigning the names to each of you along with the info that person sends me.

I think a max limit should be $25 to $30... any thoughts on this?

I think it is nice to get a few small items to give out on several days over a single item but that is at your discretion.

We will have a meeting near the end of the cruise to reveal who your secret mickey is.

Any feedback would be appreciated....

I have done Secret Mickey's both ways - individual and cabin - I really like it to be by cabins because I can give small things (candy, etc.) and then one larger memento to the family or couple BUT if there are multiple families traveling together in one cabin, then each should be separate. If we do cabin/or family/couple - Secret Mickey I am in - the individual is just too hard because of delivery when everyone in my family wants to do it - Family/Couple/Cabin Secret Mickey is just easier for me!

Thanks for arranging the Secret Mickey group for us. We don't participate in the FE but Dick and I really enjoyed having the Secret Mickey deliveries on the Panama cruise.

Some thoughts:
We liked getting a final gift at the reveal gathering. Would everyone like to save one gift for then?

Last time, our Secret Mickeys were also doing the FE so we put their SM gifts in their FE holder WITH A TAG ON IT saying this gift was from their SM.
We did not have a FE holder and our gifts that wouldn't stick behind the fish ended up on the floor in front of our door. So this time I'm bringing a gift bag to hang on our fish for any goodies.

The maximum amount of $25 to $30 was a nice manageable amount to spend. We included some simple homemade things and check the dollar store for ideas, and were able to leave something just about every day for our Mickeys. That was fun and good exercise after dinner!

Would it be alright with others for an entire cabin to be a SM? If everyone in a cabin wants to play but didn't want to contribute the $25ish per person, then the cabinmates could give to one SM or another set of cabinmates. The gift information for a cabin of people would just need to be more general or each actual person would only get one gift specifically for them. Just an idea so more expenses doesn't stop anyone from joining us.

Looking forward to meeting you all real soon! :donald:

I love doing the cabin, family SM - much easier and can coordinate gifts for the family.

Yes we did the EBTA last year and the WBTA also - loved them both!!!

for clothing all I can say is LAYERS! Our one thing we did was to bring a pair of silky type long underware for each person that could be worn under jeans, sweats, etc. incase it got cold. The times it was cooler was at night on the decks.

want to do secret mickey if we have a group for families/cabins Individual is just too hard because everyone in our family wants to do it.

I saw someone posted here or FB about bringing a shell and fleece. Would it be too warm?
I was thinking about just bringing my shell.

I thought about just a hooded sweatshirt, GEEZ I need to rethink my strategy otherwise we'll be freezing! I really didn't want to bring winter coats, they weigh too much.

I was thinking just a hooded sweatshirt, too. May bring Colombia coat with shell and zip out fleece. or shell with hooded sweatshirt.

What about a thin pr of gloves?

I did mention on FB that we are bring fleece and shell but they are separate and light weight. Disney Mickey fleece (currently on sale) and LL Bean shell that weighs nothing. I hate to be cold so I might be over packing a bit but figure this will cover us in case it rains.

We live in Jackson but I grew up in White House - we fly in and out of Nashville for our cruises.

I am only starting to pack today as I unpack from my last cruise as I still have the memory of overpacking fresh in my head!!!

With all the talk about packing and temps I went ahead and add some links on the first post that show the average, min, max, etc for temps in the various ports we will be hitting.

My husband has family that lives in Franklin. Our last name is Marlin

I posted this on FB, but wanted to mention it here too...

Just did an air deviation with DCL & they sent me the itinerary!!!

Yes, it is Delta out of BCN for us, changing in Atlanta. Delta states on this itin. that they allow ONE bag free and a 2nd is $50! boo. The times are BCN: 10am, arrive JAC 2pm, we layover till 4pm & arrive LAX at 6. We are on UA for the trip to MCO & they charge $25 (1st), $35 (2nd bag).

We do leave on the 30th, instead of the 28th, but only had to pay the deviation fee, no increase in ticket.

We are doing the b2b. Who else is staying on board to sail the Med?

Ahhhh...would love to do that, but it's not in the plan so far...mostly depends on DCL offering some specials!! :worship:

My DH's too!! It was doable on some days during the crossing when it was too windy up on decks 9 & 10, but definitely good on the rest of the trip. And we were a month earlier, so more chilly, I'm thinking.
