May 14, 2011 - Eastbound TransAtlantic

Just wanted to run this by everyone, and see if anyone is interested. Is anyone interested in meeting for a short Bible Study and time of prayer early on the 2 Sundays of the cruise. I am a Baptist preacher, moving to England, and would love to make myself available if anyone was wanting to do this. TWO MONTHS!!! We can't hardly wait.

can someone direct me to the lanyard discussion? I would love to help with this as I did on the last TA I ordered the lanyards and the someone else did the name cards and I have some tips I can throw in.

Krisann

In our 2007 EBTA, a DISer made lanyards for everyone. Just a thought. They put the names of everyone in our cabin and their usernames under their names so it would look like this:

Also, for anyone doing the FE cabin gifts, I would be more then happy to help deliver. I don't have much to give out, but I was hoping that I could make some keychains for everyone, maybe we could stick those in with whoever else is doing cabin gifts. I would love it if someone could send me a PM, so we can discuss this off the threads.

If you can access the FB page, there are pictures of the name tag mock-up and lanyard mock-up. Anyone who is interested in helping out with the cost as their FE, please feel free to contact me. At this point, I am doing the name tags for those in both FE groups. The lanyard distribution is yet to be determined.

With all the talk about packing and temps I went ahead and add some links on the first post that show the average, min, max, etc for temps in the various ports we will be hitting.

Regarding weather and what to pack . . . . is there another forum that we could go to the week before we cruise to see what other cruisers/cruise lines are experiencing on TA crossings? :scratchin

The Eastbound last year was a month earlier than the 2007 crossing or what we'll be doing this year. We were on the 2007 eastbound and didn't need anything more than a light jacket that didn't take a lot of room in the suitcase. Had a day of rain and fairly rough seas with 12-15' swells but the ship handled it well and didn't see anyone suffering from it. A light jacket might also be well suited for some of the port calls depending on the weather. Madeira shows in May to be in the 60's during the day. We also stopped by the sporting goods store and picked up some 99 cent plastic ponchos. Take no room and something handy should it rain on a port call. Better than hauling umbrellas around. If the weather just doesn't cooperate on a sea day, just a better excuse to find some shrimp and a good book.

thought the facebook group could be seen - but we figured out my friends cannot see it so I can stay!

We just booked the cruise a week ago and tried to get our airline flights all arranged. We are travelling without our husbands. We cruised together last year on Disney in the Med.
We will do most of our excursions on our own. If anybody wants to join us. You are welcome to do so.

After several rejected emails to DCL regarding the "champagne girls". I called again tonight to get a fax number and will fax the requested info to them tomorrow. I got the email address from them and it keeps kicking it back saying undeliverable :confused3 I called and verified the email address tried again and same thing, so tomorrow I'll try the fax option. Let's hope I know more soon.

For those of us on the same flight home, we need to plan some activities for the flight! :rotfl2: I'm not a good flyer, the 2 1/2 hour flight from STL to MCO makes me crazy. I get antsy. Hopefully I'll be exhausted enough to sleep. Same for DD, I'm really worried about her (me) :scared1: on that long flight home! Gonna by some travel games and hopefully we'll stay occupied. I'm too nosey to read, gotta watch every move everyone makes and keep head count on people.:lmao: No I'm not crazy.

That would be wonderful! I am taking my dad on this trip. He lost his wife a couple of weeks ago. I think he would love to also join in on a little prayer and bible study. Thanks

On the Panama Canal cruise, anyone wanting a lanyard actually paid for them. This might be the best solution. Do you have any prices on them? If it is not too much, I might consider sponsoring them.

I am downloading several movies to watch during the flight... actually figure my dad will want to watch them. I really like to listen to soothing music and just rest.

Welcome! Quite a few of us are leaving our husbands at home.

A tidbit of info....

I copied this from the DIS DCL FAQ sticky thread at the top of the board. I have done this several times in the past and it worked for me. I will say that to be on the safe side, I shipped it so that I had a tracking number which allowed me to verify that it arrived.

Boxes Sent the Ship Ahead of Cruise - PLEASE follow these instructions carefully!!!!!! UPDATED AS OF 2/25/2009
• ONE box per stateroom, no exceptions.
• The package must have the guest full name, ship, sailing date, stateroom number or GTY if you have not been assigned a stateroom number.
• The package also must have a packing slip attached to the outside of the box that details the contents of the package. For prescriptions, a copy of the prescription is sufficient. Your list may or may not be read but it must have one. Write packing slip on the outside of the envelope.
• NO FOODS/DRINKS OF ANY KIND, LIQUOR OF ANY KIND, FIREARMS, ETC.. Items that cannot be shipped to the Disney Cruise Line Warehouse and delivered to the ship include: food products (any and all food products including baby food/formula), beverages (liquor, water, etc.), chemicals, and luggage. These items will not be accepted at the warehouse and will be returned. This may cause the dogs to hit on your box and that would be a bad thing.
• The required size of the cartons you are shipping down have to be about the size of a record storage box 12 inches on a side and should not weigh more than 20 lbs. (This has been asked personally by Dave Adams who is the owner)

Address your package(s) to:
Disney Cruise Line Warehouse
Guest Name / Stateroom # (GTY, if you don't know what it is when you send the package)
8633 Transport Drive
Orlando, FL 32832
Phone: 407-566-8196

In the bottom left corner of the top of the package put the following information: ATTN: HOUSEKEEPING
*Name
*Sail Date
*Ship
*Stateroom Number
*Packing slip that details contents of the package (for prescriptions, a copy of the prescription is sufficient)
• Packages must arrive by Friday by 3:00pm for the 7-Night Cruise on the Disney Magic (Saturday).
• Packages must arrive by Friday by 3:00pm for the 4-Night Cruise on the Disney Wonder (Sunday).
• Packages must arrive by Wednesday by 3:00pm for the 3-Night Cruise on the Disney Wonder (Thursday).

If your box is hit on by the screening dog or chosen for additional screening they will open the list and the box and look through it. They will close it back up and provided nothing bad is in it then it will be in your room as usual later after boarding. These boxes will be coming on the ship with the crew mail among other things so they may be in the staterooms later then they were before as they are low priority in the scheme of things for Disney.

Good to know. Last year, the only rough weather was on the actual crossing when it was super windy & chilly. I just wrapped up, put my head down, and ventured out for coffee! :cool1:
Hoping for crisp, sunny days in the ports.

There is always cruise critic dot com - very large forum with a zillion hits a day. No doubt there will be lots of info there - good idea. I always check CC for Princess & Regent, but seem to stick to this one for Disney.

That's gotta be frustrating!! Is it a special department that you need to email? One time I was leaving out a period in between the email & disney, after the @ sign in the address...:confused3

I'm hoping they will do a champagne tasting for us - I like a few of theirs on board. Thanks for doing this & good luck with the fax!!!!

Last time we took Virgin atlantic & they have complimentary movies in the seat backs - really current ones -- and I watched till I dropped...lol They also have complimentary alcohol & not sure that did me any favors! :woohoo: I'm not sure what Delta offers, but I'm going to try to sleep on this one. I can't sleep on a plane usually, but that's one loooooooooong flight!

Thanks for reposting!! I decided to go ahead & address my label now so I don't forget again!

On the topic of lanyards - I'm really out of the loop here, but on the ebta last year, someone made these (shown at bottom of the first post):

Everyone on the ship kept calling me by name, including the crew, so it was fun! I'm willing to chip in some money too. :goodvibes

Lynne did the name cards and i did the actual lanyard part that went around your neck for the cruise last year.

I just found this thread thanks to Yvette. I don't know why I didn't look over here in the first place. We are so excited about this cruise. I added our information to the spreadsheet. I am the only Diser in our group. My DH follows along through me and we have been on two Podcast Cruises. This is our first TA. Our friends are coming along because we have cruised Disney together and they really enjoyed it so we picked this cruise to celebrate our 60th birthdays and our 40th anniversaries. Hope to meet some of you on board and now I have alot of readying and catching up to do.

Welcome to the group :banana::banana:... Hope to meet you on the cruise!..

For those of you who have sailed to or previously visited Gibraltar, is there anything else to do other than seeing the "monkeys". Any suggestions would be fantastic, as all the Disney excursions are monkey see monkey do:rotfl:
