My question is...since I am already exchanging currency should I get British pounds for Gibraltar? I know that they will take euros but, I feel like I would be paying the exchange rate twice.

Christi

I'm doing 99% on capitol one card no fees and exchange rate is not inflated. if i'm going to spend cash in Gibraltar it will be Pounds big rip off for euro-pounds there I hear

BUT if you don't spend them you have to convert them back

Ok, it's now confirmed and me and my DH are now booked for this cruise!!! We booked a Verandah, and got such an AWESOME deal, that we could not pass up. My husband is currently the Cheif Security Officer for another cruise line and got us a fantastic rate thru a friend of his who works on this ship!! This will be our first "Disney" cruise and we are hoping it will be a wonderful one at that!! We are looking to also fly out using AirBerlin and staying the night in Dusseldorf, Germany at the Sheraton located in the airport. Then we get back to sunny Miami in no time!! We are so excited and any tips that you all can provide would be great!!!!!! :yay:

You will both love the Disney Cruise experience. My daughter's best friend will be with us for her first cruise, no less Disney. It will be interesting to see what your husband's perspective will be traveling on another line. Welcome, and enjoy.... I'm not sure anyone can contain their excitement! Half the fun is looking forward and planning for the trip!

Jill you Secret Mickey plan sounds wonderful. That's exactly how we did it on our last cruise. It was alot of fun trying to figure out who our SM was the entire cruise. I think it's a great idea to involve the kids if enough are interested. I know Hannah would love to participate, she love to do the FE and really looks forward to walking the ship to hand them all out. I'm anxiously waiting our air details. Disney told me it was already booked but won't tell me yet:confused3 I guess it's top secret until the 60 day mark!

Heather, we will be including kids even if we end up putting them in the adult group. No one will be out of the Secret Mickey if they want to participate.....

Just remembered my business visa is Cap 1...must be a business expense or 2 I can find somewhere! :rotfl:

I'm getting some pounds for Gibralter too - DS will be doing a month of summer school in Oxford, so what's left can go to him.....hopefully there will be some left!! Maybe I should buy it back from anyone who has extra, in case the exchange gets worse. LOL...

Speaking of exchange rates - I have my age old dilemma of WHEN to buy. Seems like every time I do, the rate goes down & I lose a bunch. Anyone have any knowledge (or guesses) in that area??

The Secret Mickey..... Everyone that signs up needs to contact me with the name, age and a little info about the person signing up. example would be a girl age 4 likes Ariel and Donald Duck. This will help the person that is your Secret Mickey to know what to shop for.
I will be assigning the names to each of you along with the info that person sends me.

I think a max limit should be $25 to $30... any thoughts on this?

I think it is nice to get a few small items to give out on several days over a single item but that is at your discretion.

We will have a meeting near the end of the cruise to reveal who your secret mickey is.

Any feedback would be appreciated....

Thanks for the info!! I think I will opt out of this one though, since I will be lucky to manage the FEs....I'm signing up for the champagne tasting too, so don't want to have too much fun...:lmao:

PS... I'm really enjoying the Facebook group - anyone on the fence about that should really check it out. Although sometimes I get confused as to where I asked/answered a question. Senior moments do seem to be more frequent these days! :scared1:

Thanks for the push! The link on the first page wasn't working for me. So I did a search for it on FB and found it. Just sent a join request :)

Welcome all new families :rainbow:

In Gibraltar make sure you ask for British pounds when getting change back. Gibraltar pounds are only good there.

I am not interested in SM either. It is too much work since I am on vacation. I am looking forward to Champagne tasting and FE.

Any updates on the photo scavenger hunt?

I've been busy getting Hannah ready for her dance season, but now all the costumes are done I'll spend some time working on the Photo Scavenger Hunt and my FE gifts!

I'm planning the hunt for an early Sea day - maybe the 2nd sea day. I'd like to make sure people are familiar with the ship, but not *too* familiar! :rotfl: I have a list of things to look for - I think it's around 50 items right now. I'm still trying to figure out how we'll verify everyone's entries at the end - maybe we'll just swap cameras between the teams and grade each other's papers. I'm sure we're all trustworthy! :thumbsup2

Amanda-
What type of dance does your daughter do? My Dd is 10 and on competitive pom/dance team. Season stats this month and runs through July.
She just got her new uniform last week. Still waiting on the body suit, though.

Been watching the Euro go up in price for weeks and just ordered mine today from the bank I work for. About a 6 cent premium for the exchange rate. Also contacted Disney who confirmed we can buy Euro's at Guest Services. If you have your exchange receipt, they said they will buy back what you don't use before you get off the ship. I'm sure they will have some British Pounds too. I figure I'll use what I ordered today first and then get what I need on the ship I can sell them back and not have to bring any home.

Wasn't aware that Gibraltar had their own currency instead of just using British Pounds so a big thank you for that tip.

She does competitive dance - jazz, tap, hip hop and lyrical. We started this past weekend, but should be done with our competitions by the cruise - with the recital the weekend we get home! :rotfl:

Wow !

Looks like you had a great time Barb ! Thanks for bringing those great ideas to our group !

I have one more to add to the list : maybe find a time during one of the sea days to have the whole group gather in the main lobby and get a CM go up the stairs and take a group picture !

We, the champaign girls, did that on the Panama Canal Cruise. Daisy Duck happened by and got in the pic with us... it was great!

We can always try to get a group shot during the DIS meet, but sometimes I think that's a little too crazy of a time to do it - people are still getting settled, plus there are lots of other people wandering around the ship getting their bearings.

Is there any way to arrange a group photo with the Shutters people before getting on the ship? Is Shutters open early on embarkation day for someone to arrange for a group shot before the DIS meet so the day/time can be distributed?

I have an email sent to Disney requesting info for the Champagne/Wine Girls. Stay tuned for more info.....

Shutters is a cool idea for a group photo! Maybe even during a later time???

Thanks for taking care of the Champagne girls ! For the group photo, maybe we can do it on a sea day, maybe just before lunch, so that everybody can be in the photo ! I was thinking of the little kids that still needs a nap in the afternoon ! And the big kids ! I have one of those

Too funny. My big kid loves to sleep late. DD19.

A little birdie told me that if I'm "too busy" to see the two upcoming Disney releases before our cruise (Mars Needs Moms and African Cats), that I shouldn't be concerned.

There was a little tongue in cheek "I can't exactly tell you that they will be shown on your cruise, but......"

And unless she has to get up for classes, my DD20 will rarely be seen before noon!

Thanks for passing this info on :thumbsup2 !!

I love watching movies on the ship and like to have not seen them before. I don't think I can sit through Tron again, that was an "only once and never again!" for me :headache:
