May 13.2006 Eastern

Hello Everyone...just found the May 13, 2006 group! There are 4 of us cruising...me, wife, 2 kids (5 & 4 yr old girls). I think we are also on Deck #6...
After review this site, we have decided to stay at the Raddison at Port Canaveral the night before. It's $150 bucks, but the transporation, convenience and piece of mind that we are "there" is key for us.

We've cruise before, 1st time with Disney. Can someone tell me if we can book a tour on-line, through DCL if my daughter is only 4? As you know, most of the tours have a minimum age of 5yrs.

Welcome Cali-Mouse... We are on deck 6 as well stateroom 6550.. If the excursion has a minimum age, then DCL will not allow you to book it. It was difficult for us last cruise since our DS was only 4 as well. We ended up doing everything on our own.

Hi Cali-Mouse and welcome to our group!

Sounds like there will be a lot of us on deck 6!

We have a just turned 5 -year- old son and we chose to do the Anquilla Dolphin Encounter in St. Maartin which is for ages 3+. We are also doing a snorkel/beach day in St. John, but that is tarts at 5+. As Dr. Cavin stated earlier, you will not be able to book on- line if your daughter is not the proper age limit. When I booked parasailing for my older son, the younger one was grayed out and I couldn't check his box next to his name if I wanted to do so. If you have access to Birnbaum's Disney Cruise Line guide book, they have great descriptions of the excursions along with any age limits. If you want info. or age limits on any of the excursions, let me know and I'd be happy to tell you what they are.

Dr. Cavin, you may be right about having a Dis meeting at the Mickey Slide!
Then again, I'm not sure everyone wants to meet with wet hair and in bathing suits!

Hi Cali mouse,

We're staying at the Radisson as well. It's DH pirate: , DD age 7 princess: and me :shamrock:

I read somewhere that there are restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. DD does not want to drive; we're either going with Art's Shuttle or FL Tours. Art's has minivans, FL Tours has Town cars. I would like a town car, DD wants the cheaper Art's.

Huey duey and luey, are you flying down day of the cruise? We're booked on Continental. Couldn't find anything cheaper, including JetBlue.

I forgot to ask, does anyone know how to tip the Oceaneer Club counselors?
DCL website has a page on how much to tip the CM's, but it doesn't say anything about the counselors.

We leave in 65 days!!! :woohoo:

We are flying down the day before, jetblue out of JFK
I just asked about tipping the counselors and someone said they are a non tip position. They also said that some people bring gift cards. I am not sure what I will do yet

BxIrishrn DO NOT USE ARTS!!!!! They get so many complaints from customers not being picked up in time, to Art's not showing up at ALL, I think you better invoke the "I am the Parent" veto on this one :thumbsup2

I saw a post earlier today on tipping the conselors http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1024689 Look for the post by CM_Mom. Her daughter is/was a conselor on one of the ships.

Hanover, my kids won't care at all if someone see's them with wet hair & in a bathing suit ;)

Hi Cali Mouse
Welcome to the group. We are traveling with my parents, DDs Ashlyn 7 and MOrgan 4. We are up for the meet. Doesn't matter for us Mickey slide or Lounge. We'll be there. We are flying down day before on Continental. I forgot where we are staying...DH is handling that. I just make sure the clothes are bought and packed. I'm so glad it was brought up about the counselors. GCs is a great idea.

My DH, DD (16), DD (5), DS (8) and DS (6) are booked for this cruise. Can't wait!@

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for the tips on the shore excursions and the formal night schedule. I guess working for a Pirate themed dinner show here in California is going to help me on Tuesday night! Arg! pirate:

Any other Californians going on this trip?

I saw the messages regarding tipping the counselors, but I have not looked up the message with the suggestions. Anyone want to help out and post the info would be great.

We have an outside Verandah cabin, is there plexi-glass on the lower railings that prevent kids from climbing?

Thanks for the info Dr. Cavin. I will definitely use my veto power on transportation. I love having executive veto power!!! :lmao:

Thanks for the above link as well. It has other good ideas if we can't find phone cards. :thumbsup2

It seems like we're all going to be at the Mickey slide before the sailaway party. Should we just meet there??

Cali-Mouse, when we had a verandah last year on the Wonder (6546), there was plexiglass on the railings. We also moved the outside furniture away from the railing so the kids couldn't stand on it to look out either. The door to get out on to the verandah was tricky for my dh and I to get at first, and the kids could never get it themselves, so I'd say it's pretty child proof.

About the counselor's getting tipped, someone suggested either a big bag of chocolate or phone/gift cards and a nice thank you note. They said that gifts get pooled and raffled at meetings. I don't know if I will have room for a bag of chocolate or that I'd want it melting in my suitcase, so I think we'll stick to the thank- you's and check and see if Sams,Bj's or Costco has a multipack of phone cards. I think we'd just give them the last night at the check- in desk, knowing they'd be pooled and not give them to individuals. We'll bring some paper or cards and let the boys write out thank- you's for their counselors.

Bxirishrn- I think the Mickey Slide would work better for us. Then we wouldn't have our kids asking us every 3 seconds in a lounge when they could go swimming.

:cool1: Our numbers are climbing - welcome to cali mouse and arndtge - We have a couple of kids that match in age - I have DS's 7 & 9 we are also sailing with friends who are DS 8 DD 8 and DD 10 We have been on 5 cruises this is our 2nd DCL they have not been on any cruises however they are CRAZY  WDW fans I am sure they will be HOOKED pirate: after this trip.

We are arriving on Thursday night and plan to do the parks on Friday - the trip wouldn't be complete without a trip to MK and a ride on Everest over in AK - we are staying at the Hotel Royal Plaza Thurs & Fri and got a great deal on FL Tours for the transportation for the 9 of us!

We are from the Boston area and were lucky to get great rates out of Providence to MCO

Dr. Cravin is a great resource on this thread :goodvibes Any questions I can answer regarding kids club or spa, i am happy to, we participated in both on our last trip - this is our first Eastern carrib. sailing so I don't know much about the ports!

I am still not sure about the DIS meet - I am sure we will be there I prefer the pool myself, we plan to be at the fam pool for sailaway and will be marking our spot soon after boarding - it was such a great time last time. I have glow necklaces, bubble, and my dancing shoes all ready - we love to have fun :cheer2:

I am home with the FLU :sad2: I have been sick since Sunday however I attempted to work on Wednesday and proceeded to just get myself worse so the good doctor told me no work for the rest of the week - I am not at all a good "sick" person - I am a nurse, I am supposed to take care of everyone else

I'll second nurses being the worst patients Hookenemy !! But is DH gets sick, oh boy :rotfl2: !!

I take it you are speaking from experience :goodvibes I see that you have Irish RN in your ID! DH's are bad also but only with the wives -

I am still up defying the doctors orders, playing with my new camera, trying to figure out how to upload my pictures - I need to lay down before the night is lost - I have to be in good shape for American Idol -
