I grew up in the humidity in SC. Summer is usually 100 degrees with 100% humidity. I thought I could handle Florida with no problems. The first time DH took me to a University of Florida opening football game, I almost died. They don't call it "The Swamp" for nothing.

Yes!! I am NOT looking forward to the humidity, and neither is my hair!!!

I love living below my budget! I think that's where I'm having the issues!

We are able to pay cash for everything right now. When we booked our trip this time, I opened the checkbook and wrote a check to pay it off.

If I want something, I buy it. I don't want to have to budget for something and worry if I go over. But, I know we can't live in a rental forever. Sooner or later the owner is going to want to put this house up for sale, and then we'd be in the market for a house, but only scrambling to find something.



I'm not going to think about it again for a while.

I love living below my budget! I think that's where I'm having the issues!

We are able to pay cash for everything right now. When we booked our trip this time, I opened the checkbook and wrote a check to pay it off.

If I want something, I buy it. I don't want to have to budget for something and worry if I go over. But, I know we can't live in a rental forever. Sooner or later the owner is going to want to put this house up for sale, and then we'd be in the market for a house, but only scrambling to find something.

Very true, but the perfect one that WILL NOT make you think will arrive!

I love my DH explanation of our weather....HOT (we get 105+ for days)....BUT no humidity...He is originally from Ohio and does not like humidity...and Jo I agree with you on the Florida 'swamp' weather..our first trip to WDW was the last few day of August into September....OMG when I got off the plane I almost feel over...like getting hit with a wet blanket..

Does anyone else love the fries at the McD's in Frontierland????

OMG...just thinking about them.. Just the perfect salty/crunchy mix.

Ya'll are all going to think that I am addicted to McD's, but really, I never eat there.

I loved the short film "Supersize Me". Did you see it???? DD is having to watch it in Nutrition class at school and she is totally grossed out at the thought of McD's now. I'm glad.

Hey Jo - It is so hard to decide on a house. When we moved here we couldn't find a house we liked so we bought something smaller but it worked for our family. We were moving at Christmas and the market was just terrible. There were no new builds available in the size and price range we were looking for. All of the older homes needed extensive work.

Well, two years ago, we found the perfect house here! We love it! The floor plan was great for our family, it was only two years old. Empty nesters lived here and the home looked as though it was never lived in. Cul de Sac - fabulous upstairs, playroom, bedrooms, and a bath for each kid, greenbelt. We love it.

Downside - Everything cost more. Yikes! Example - Our yard is smaller in this house than our other house, it is half the size. We back up to a green belt which makes our back yard seem larger than it is, but it is really tiny. When we moved, we stayed with the same lawn service for chemicals. When the first bill came, it was doubled. I called to ask what was going on, and the company said that is the going rate for chemicals in our neighborhood. (They were basing cost on where you live not the size of your lawn. BTW - We moved about 5 minutes away from our other house.) So I explained, old house big yard, new house small yard. Chemicals should be less. Well, they weren't budging, we got several estimates, all the same. All this to say, anytime you pay for a service, chemicals, yard work, painting, plumbing, heat & air, etc. We are charged a lot more money just because of our address, not for the amount of work being done. Ask around about this if you can. We are doing our chemicals this year, and ds will mowing our lawn since he will be 12. It was cheaper to buy a nice Honda mower than to pay to have our yard mowed. (My DH works a lot.)This little thing about services just burns me up. We are also doing our own spraying for bugs. Same thing, although I do think it takes a little more spray, but not 3 times as much.

Repainting the front door. Same thing. Twice as much as our other house. I just don't think in two years, the cost doubled.

Our POA dues doubled which we were fine with but this year they want to triple the existing dues to put in a gate and security system at the entrance to the neighborhood.

Of course all utilities, insurance, taxes, yada, yada, are more. Which we were expecting. We just didn't expect the "services" to be more unless we were having more done.

See if you can ask around about some of this.

Of course, which budget did some this dip into. Well, my decorating budget. Yuck!

End of rant. If you know someone in that neighborhood ask around about any services you are currently paying for. See how it compares to what you have been paying. Since you have been leasing, you may not be paying for any of these things.

When we were in the Midwest things were very no nonsense. I couldn't imagine this happening where we lived in Ohio. But, it may be this way everywhere.

Anyway, we love our house. I just get a little ticked when we get estimates for things that need to be done.
