Awwwww, by the time we finally got to downtown GC, it was already 4 pm and the kids were getting home from school, so we had to run home quick. There were too many shops along the way. I don't know the name of the one we stopped at, but we loved GC!!! Very cute town. WE stopped by the Sheetz and got coffee, b/c we were needing a pick me up and couldn't find a coffee shop. On the way into town, we stopped at a place called Rachel's. Do you know where that is? It was very good. The same people own the Log Cabin down this way on 19 and they own the Springfield Grill in seven Fields.

I've never heard of that Wendall forge thing. I'll look it up!:surfweb:

I do want to come back this summer for a day at the outlet. We'll do lunch.:)

Jo

Wow I can't believe you were so close. I love living in GC. Very nice community. Most people here work in Cranberry or Pittsburgh and commute.

Which Sheetz were you at? The one at the outlets is about 3 miles from me and the one in the GC plaza is probably less than a mile away!

Yes, Rachel's has been here forever! Been there several times. It all started with Rachels and the Iron Bridge up here, then they expanded into the Springfield Grille and they have several of those plus the Log Cabin. DH and I ate at the Log Cabin once, very nice.

Wendell August has been here forever too. I'm surprised you haven't heard of it. They ship worldwide now. Very nice stuff. Very expensive stuff, but very nice. We got my in-laws a 50th anniversary gift from there a few years ago. You can take a tour here in GC and watch them making things. Very neat!

Hey Sea! Any idea what the next Disney "thing" is going to be? When we were there in 2005 it was the Happiest Homecoming on Earth and for the last 2 years it has been the Year of a Million Dreams. . . . Just wondered what 2009 will bring???

SoCal is great. Last night we went down to the pier to look at the new ferris wheel after hearing about it being open again on TV. WOW! It is quite impressive. I took some video of it and will post it tonight.

Business is good and getting better. Following up on about 130 leads from last weeks conference. Hopefully I will convert a few of them into long term clients.

SF is a beautiful area. Get's cold, foggy and rainy a lot up there though. Love the cable cars, the Golden Gate bridge, etc. Lots of things to see and do there. But, I wouldn't want to live there. Traffic and parking is a nightmare. My cousin and his wife live there and they don't own a car anymore...it wasn't worth the hassles.

You need warmer and nicer areas: Orange County, San Diego County. Santa Barbara County, Los Angeles County. From LA, Orange or SD you can get to the beach in the morning, and in the afternoon be in the mountains or in the desert. There is much more to do in Southern California area than Northern California. Even Arnold commutes everyday from SM Airport to Sacramento, then back to SM! :rotfl2:

Congrats on the new washing machine!

HEY SEA!!! I ACTUALLY WAS JUST RESEARCHING CALIFORNIA TO POSSIBLY MOVE THERE AND I WAS CHECKING OUT AREA'S NEAR THERE - BUT I AM A BROKE NEWLYWED - CAN YOU TELL ME SOME OF THE MORE AFFORDABLE (BUT STILL NICE) LOCATIONS... :goodvibes

I haven't heard anything yet. But here is my speculation: I think what might happen in May 2009 a promotion will start to celebrate Disnyeland's 55th birthday which will be July 17, 2010. (They started the DL's 50th birthday promotion in May 2004) WDI spent a load of money on the "Dream Suite" over the POTC and I know that is a popular prize hopefully they will give that away again during that time. I have heard rumors of a new parade being worked on for the 55th celebration too.

That is my best guess!

LOL, when living in SoCal, scratch out the word "affordable" from your vocabulary, when it comes to real estate.

Seriously, you can find some homes in San Fernando Valley starting in the 250K range. Now, they might not be in the best areas, but that gets you into the market. Right now is a good time. A lot of foreclosures in the Valley, but the average in a good area is around 370-450K. The prices are down about 100K to 130K. Prices have begun to stabilize out here and will probably start going up at the end of the year or q1 of 2009.

The valley is about 20 miles or so from the beach cities, about 60 miles from DL, 10 miles from Universal Studios, 15 miles from Magic Mountain. So you are really not far from anything.

What kind of work do you do?
