may 12, 2012 7 Night Western on the Fantasy

:grouphug: Amy and Michelle you are wonderful ladies for putting the FE lists up!

Wow. I've been gone a little while, life with a new baby is much more hectic than I thought. Hes a handful, but all worth while. I'm so happy to see that there are so many rooms for the FE! THis is going to be so exciting. LeeAnn, welcome to the disboards!!!! Can't wait to cruise with you, it's going to be a blast. You're going to be hooked.

Is there a meet taking place? I'd love to meet everyone I've been chatting with. :banana::banana::banana:

How is your little DS? I had trouble with his FE gift since he really can't have anything that I'm giving to the other kids. I bought him something different. If he's still too young for it, sorry!

If my math is right, we have around 42 cabins and 129 people total (not just FE). I'm reading in another thread that on our ship Deck 4 near the Vista Cafe would be a good place for us to meet and if we did it around 3:00 pm on sail-away day, that would give us a chance to say hello without interfering with lunch or the sail-away party.

What does everyone/anyone think?

DS is 5 months now, will be a little over 6 months when we sail. No worries about his gift, so long as he can't choke on it, I'm not picky. :)

I think that sounds like a good place to meet.

Sounds GREAT! A cruise meet sounds like a great idea on Deck 4!:thumbsup2 It's not long now! Looking forward to seeing everyone! :cool1:

Is anyone doing a meet the night before - if you are staying at the port? Another fun idea!:banana:

It's getting so close!!! AAAAHHHH. I am so excited I can't even stand it!

So, I have been working on a vacation budget and trying to think of everything from start (like, lunch on the way to the airport, parking at the airport, coffee in the morning... etc etc) to finish (tips and tolls...etc etc) that we will spend on this trip.

Can anyone think of anything random that I may be forgetting?? I know that no one can know HOW MUCH we may spend, I am guesstimating all that - but is there something I am overlooking? So far I have:

Departure Day

* Lunch going to airport
* Airport Parking
* Rental Car
* Tolls to WDW
* Gas when returning the car
* Dinner @ WDW - 1 night
* 2 Grey Goose Lemoncello Slush's ;)

Sail Day

* Breakfast @ airport
* Tip for shuttle driver

On Board (tips are pre-paid)

* Spa (rainforest room more than likely)
* Excursion
* Cocktails
* Palo (do you tip more than the $20 pp, or no? I have mixed feelings)
* Souvenirs

In Port

* Cozumel - all day excursion, so not muchextra $$ needed
* Grand Cayman - snorkel rentals at Eden Rock, maybe some drinks
* Costa Maya - lunch, maybe massages on the beach, taxi
* Castaway Cay - probably float rentals, and some cocktails

We are then staying at WDW for 4 days after the trip. Our tickets and hotel is paid for, so all we will need to worry about it food and drinks. But, as we all know - that part is the most epensive part usually. So, I am trying to do some research and figure out some places with good value.

Anyone see anything that I am missing??

Looks like you covered everything. I thought about pictures, but I am assuming that is included in "souvenirs."

Thanks! We are not doing the pictures on the ship, but I totally forgot about the disc that they sell on our excursion - I definitely want that one! :eek:

Don't forget miscellaneous tips for port days. You know...taxi drivers, excursion operators, bartenders, etc. Those tend to add up fast!

We are leaving PVD on a 7:55pm flight landing in MCO at 10:15 we are staying at Hyatt (there are 7 of us ages 3-97)

Right now I have transfers through car service for roundtrip from airport to port and then port to airport on the 19th.

I am wondering if we should just do car service one way from port to airport (we have no rush getting off ship in the morning our flight is not until 8pm, I did purchase the Hyatt day pass though)

and do DCL transfer to port so that we can just check in right at the airport and get on 1st bus over to the port?

It would cost us $15 more per person. For me my family of 4 it would be most expensive for my mom she is just 1 and my MIL it's just the 2 of them.

Thoughts???? The 1 pro to car service was they would stop for us to grab water, but after reading boards I think I am just going to take our resort mugs from our stays at WDW and use that for our water/coffee.

TIA

I Love the idea of a cruise meet on the first day between lunch and sailaway... i will do my darndest to be there, but will admit that my family may steer me in another direction... i am typically the agenda maker and director of our family vacations, but promised them this time i'd take a backseat and let them "drive." So, that being said, i can make no promises, but hope to get there :)

I am crazy excited too!!!! :woohoo:

Looks like your list is very complete... i agree w/a PP re: tips, including for room service if you order... also, do you plan on buying snacks for the theater, playing bingo or arcade, smoothies, corkage fees if you are bringing your own wine... pirate night accessories?

For your WDW days after the cruise... have you considered the dining plan? or staying concierge (i know it sounds crazy, but the cost increase from a regular room to a concierge room was much less than our family of five would spend on b'fast alone, so it is more than worth it) or in a DVC unit where you can do a little cooking?

I am in the same place as you with transfers... we are coming in the morning before the cruise, spending the day at MK and staying at Contemporary... had planned on using car service to get to port... then on another board was talked into renting a car (either at airport on friday or at wdw on saturday) and returning to the port and renting again after the cruise and returning at airport (have 3pm flight on debarkation day)... the renting thing is a little bit cheaper... yet with needing a minivan, it may be a wash financially...

but, for a few bucks, do i really want to be hassled and harried, buckling in a car seat, schlepping our own luggage, etc etc etc just to save a few dollars (okay, maybe as much as a hundred) for our family of five... it just all sounds like WORK! not VACATION! (LOL)

or, do i let disney do all the work... they do it well... they guarantee their transporatation will get me where i need to go... if our rental breaks down, and we miss either boat or plane, we're on our own... if disney is transporting us, they've got our backs... and our luggage ;)

so, after typing all that out, i am thinking disney's transport is the way to go... plus, my kids LOVE magical express for going to wdw, so they will likely like the cruiseline bus as well (it just says "DISNEY" to them! LOL!)...

Good luck with whatever you decide :)

I agree, I nixed the whole car rental thing pretty quickely that to me is just a PITA and not a HUGE savings in the overall picture.

I also agree with ME is Disney to my kids they love it. Okay you just sold me on it. Especially becuase we are surprising my kids...they think we are flying ot my mother condo in Sarasota so I don't think I am going to tell them until we get down to ME area they(well my older DD) will see that we are in the ME area once we check in, I will give them their gifts to open that says SURPRISE WE ARE GOING ON MICKEY'S BOAT. With the homemade autograph books I am making just for the cruise.

Okay that is what we are doing. So once we add DCL do we pay for it?

Yay! Someone came up with a plan! I say we go with this and whoever can meet or drop by should. Hopefully I'll remember to bring/wear my LGMH (Lime Green Mickey Head for those new to these boards. They are paint samples paper that you can get from Home Depot).

I'll add this info to page 8. Thanks ilovetexas!

Yay for the meet up spot! Thanks Pam :)

Missy - So you're taking the Bus :cool1:! When you call DCL to add it one you pay for it right then. The first bus will be loaded will our thread members!!

How could I forget the Margarita money in Cozumel?!?!! :banana: :worship: ;)

And, as far as where we are having breakfast, it will likely be at Starbucks. Just some coffee and pastries!

I am crazy excited too!!!! :woohoo:

Thank you! I will add a little extra money for the potential extras on the ship. I think we will be low maintenance with that stuff though. I looked through our bill from our last cruise and we spend like maybe $80 on merchandise, and the rest in cocktails. :rolleyes1

We are staying in a DVC unit for our stay at WDW, so hopefully we will save some money on brekfasts and snacks, but I think we will probably end up having a few CS meals and a few sit down meals. But hopefully we can keep it to a minimum

Don't forget miscellaneous tips for port days. You know...taxi drivers, excursion operators, bartenders, etc. Those tend to add up fast!

Thank you! I always forget tips until the time comes and I feel like an idiot because I don't have an abundance of small bills.

Good luck with all of your decisions of transportation! Sounds like most of you have decided on DCL transfers or are at least leaning that way. We love it. It may be a little more money, but I feel like it is well worth it for the convenience. Disney is the best at making you sit back and relax. I love not having to worry about anything BEFORE I get on the ship. It's like vacation gets to start a day early. :thumbsup2

I Love the idea of a cruise meet on the first day between lunch and sailaway... i will do my darndest to be there, but will admit that my family may steer me in another direction... i am typically the agenda maker and director of our family vacations, but promised them this time i'd take a backseat and let them "drive." My feelings on the meet are the same. We will be catching up with old friends when we board, so more than likely we won't make it - but who knows! I may see you all there! Either way, take pictures! So I can see what everyone looks like when we get back!

Speaking of - has everyone posted pictures of themselves? I wouldn't mind being on the lookout for Dis people while on board. :thumbsup2

I always love the Fantasmic Dining Package at Hollywood Studios - a Fixed Price menu at either the Brown Derby, Hollywood & Vine or Mama Melrose and you get a voucher to sit at a special section for the Fantasmic show

It's not the cheapest meal in Disney, but it's a great way to eat at these restaurants for a decent price - but you do need reservations, I'm not sure how crazy it gets in May :confused3

When I have a cruise with several shore days, I have a system where I put each day's cash requirements in a separate envelope and label them. For example: Cozumel - $30 for taxi fare - $8 for tips, $40 for Nachi Cocom - $20 for tips. I have the EXACT change I need for each day's activities plus extra if I'm going to shop or whatever. Each morning, I just take that day's envelope out of the ship safe and I'm ready to go. No last minute hunting around for small bills.

I don't know about sail-away day, either, but it was just a suggestion. The problem with trying to plan these things is that I never know what I'm going to be doing on-board. When I sail with the kids, I NEVER make it to a meet and greet. It's easier if it's just the two of us.
